Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of intercultural communication between migrant students and the local community in Padang, West Sumatra. The growing presence of students from various regions has led to increasingly complex cultural interactions. Employing a qualitative method with a case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving both migrant students and local community members. The findings reveal that intercultural interactions are dynamic but marked by several key challenges, including language barriers, social stereotypes, and differences in cultural values. These challenges can hinder the process of adaptation and social integration for students in their new environment. Nevertheless, adaptation occurs through various strategies such as learning the local language, participating in community activities, and building interpersonal relationships through informal approaches. This study emphasizes the importance of intercultural communication competence as a crucial factor in fostering harmonious social integration within multicultural settings. The ability to understand cultural differences and engage in empathetic communication plays a vital role in minimizing misunderstandings and creating inclusive spaces for interaction. These insights are relevant not only for educational and social policy development but also contribute to the broader discourse on intercultural communication within the diverse sociocultural context of Indonesia

Abstract

Penyuluh Agama Islam (PAI) at the Kantor Urusan Agama (KUA) in Padang Pariaman Regency play a crucial role as the frontline in advocating for couples and resolving community conflicts. However, PAI has not yet functioned optimally, as reflected by the high divorce rate in this region, ranking second after Padang City in West Sumatra. Conflicting couples also tend to overlook the role of PAI and KUA as third parties that could help mediate their issues. To address this, the community service team sought to enhance PAI’s performance through ToT (Training of Trainers) mediator training, aimed at strengthening marital literacy and preserving marriages in the region. The approach used was group counseling with the Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) method. Data analysis applied Miles and Huberman’s techniques, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, alongside the Logical Framework Approach (LFA) for a more structured analysis. This training is beneficial in preparing PAI to become professional mediators, skilled in resolving household conflicts and reducing the tendency of couples to pursue litigation through the Pengadilan Agama (Religious Court).

Abstract

Social-emotional development in early childhood is crucial for building interpersonal skills and emotional regulation. However, classroom activities often do not provide sufficient opportunities for children to effectively develop social skills. This study aims to explore the impact of outing class activities on the social-emotional development of early childhood children at TK IT Sakinah Sungai Rumbai. A qualitative approach was used with direct observations and interviews with teachers and the principal. The findings show that outing class activities have a positive impact on the development of self-awareness, responsibility, and prosocial behavior in children. Children showed improvement in emotion regulation, conflict resolution, and peer interactions. Although some negative emotions, such as impatience and conflicts, were observed, these activities provided opportunities for children to learn how to manage these challenges. This study recommends that outing class activities be an integral part of early childhood education curricula to support comprehensive social-emotional development.

Abstract

Early childhood education is a fundamental stage in building a child's cognitive foundation. However, the reality at Kamang Baru 2 Kindergarten shows that monotonous conventional learning methods are still used, hindering children's exploration and development of thinking. By accommodating these differences, differentiated learning enables students to learn in a more optimal, relevant, and meaningful way. Differentiated learning enables students to develop their talents through potential identification, where teachers can observe and recognize individual talents in both academic (such as math, science) and non-academic (art, sports) areas. This study aims to determine the effect of a differentiated learning approach on the cognitive development of children aged 5–6 years. This quantitative study, using a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design, was conducted in November 2024 at Kamang Baru 2 Kindergarten to measure the effect of differentiated learning on the cognitive development of children aged 5–6 years. The population consisted of all 64 students at Kamang Baru 2 Kindergarten. The sample consisted of 16 children in grade B2 selected using a cluster sampling technique. The instrument consisted of an observation sheet using a Likert scale of 1–4, validated through content validity. Data were collected through observation and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including t-tests and N-Gain tests, to determine the effectiveness of the treatment.Based on the research results, it can be seen that the t0 value is greater than the t-table, namely 31.36>2.602. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis is accepted: differentiated learning influences the cognitive development of early childhood. Thus, there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test in the sample group. Therefore, hypothesis Hₐ is accepted and hypothesis Hₒ is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that differentiated learning can be applied to improve the cognitive development of early childhood. It can be concluded that the results of statistical testing of the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) indicate that differentiated learning influences cognitive development in children.

Abstract

International trade is an important sector in the Indonesian economy, especially through export activities involving sea transportation services. However, in practice, the process of transporting export goods cannot be separated from various risks, one of which is the crime of theft that causes large losses for business actors. This study aims to analyze the legal responsibility of transportation service providers in the case of theft of export goods, as well as to examine the legal protection of service users, especially PT. Spice Lines International which suffered losses due to theft during sea transportation. The research method used is a normative and empirical juridical approach, with data collection techniques through interviews and documentation studies. The results of the study show that although there are legal provisions governing the responsibility of carriers, their implementation is still weak. Many cases of losses due to theft are not resolved through legal channels due to evidentiary constraints, weak contract clauses, and lack of legal understanding from service users. The legal protection provided by laws and regulations has not been fully effective in guaranteeing the rights of service users to obtain compensation. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen legal instruments in transportation agreements, improve logistics security systems, and optimize dispute resolution through mediation or arbitration. This study recommends a reformulation of regulations and synergy between stakeholders to create a fairer and more functional legal protection system in the export transportation service sector.

Abstract

This article aims to determine the significance of problems related to the use of life insurance policies as credit collateral in terms of practice, regulation, and theory. This study focuses on the legal position of life insurance policies as credit collateral and the mechanism and banking use of life insurance policies as credit collateral in banking institutions at PT. Allianz Medan. This study uses Empirical Normative Juridical Legal Research based on interviews as support. In the Indonesian legal system, life insurance policies can be used as collateral to obtain credit lines from such institutions. General provisions on collateral are contained in the Civil Code (KUHPerdata), especially in Book II concerning property and property rights, and in Law Number 40 of 2014 concerning Insurance, which regulates the basic principles, rights, and obligations of the parties in insurance agreements. The mechanism for utilizing life insurance policies as credit collateral in banking institutions studied at PT. Allianz Medan demonstrates a legitimate and structured practice that adheres to national legal provisions, such as the Civil Code, Fiduciary Guarantee Law, and Insurance Law. By transferring the right to receive policy benefits to the bank as collateral, either by replacing the beneficiary or the fiduciary, this practice provides legal certainty for creditors and protection from risk for debtors.

Abstract

The rapid development of the digital economy has significantly transformed trade structures in Indonesia, including traditional markets that have long been the backbone of community-based economic activities. This study aims to analyze the changes and impacts experienced by traditional traders in Pasar Raya Padang in the digital economy era. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis with source and method triangulation to ensure validity. The findings reveal that traditional traders in Pasar Raya Padang are undergoing social changes marked by adaptation gaps to digital technology. Younger traders tend to adopt social media platforms and electronic payment systems to expand their market reach, while older traders face difficulties due to limited digital literacy. The economic impact is ambivalent: adaptive traders experience increased income, while non-adaptive traders face declining sales. Socially, face-to-face interactions have decreased, yet new, more transactional relationships have emerged in digital spaces. This study concludes that Pasar Raya Padang represents a dynamic interaction between tradition and modernity, resulting in a hybrid form of trade. The findings highlight the importance of empowering traditional traders through digital literacy programs, supportive policies, and community collaboration to maintain the competitiveness of traditional markets in the digital era.
