Abstract

This community service activity was carried out in Danda Jaya Village, Rantau Badauh District, Barito Kuala Regency, with the aim of increasing awareness of herbavigilance and rationality of the use of medicinal plants among the community. This program uses a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach that emphasizes the activity involvement of the community in every stage of the activity. The target of the activity consisted of Posyandu cadres with a total of 20 participants. The implementation of the activity lasted for three months and included three main stages, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation. In the preparation stage, coordination was carried out with the village government and an initial survey regarding the types and patterns of use of medicinal plants. The implementation stage included counseling, training and mentoring, as well as the formation of the Danda Jaya Village Herbavigilance Monitoring Group as an effort to sustain the program. The results of the evaluation showed that there was a significant increase in the average value of cadre knowledge from 49,5 ± 13.17 to 82.0 ± 9.51, with an increase of 32.5% and a statistically significant difference (p less than 0.001). The distribution of categories shows a large shift from the “less” to the “good” and “excellent” levels. Before the training, the majority of cardes (85%) were in the “less” and “sufficient” categories, while after the training, 85% had reached the “good” to “very good” category. These results prove that herbavigilance-based training with the support of flashcard media is effective in increasing cardes understanding of the safety of using medicinal plants safely and rationally. Although the increase is not too large, this activity has succeede in fostering a new understanding of the importance of monitoring the side effects of medicinal plants and encouraging the public to be more careful in their use. This program has proven to be effective in educating the community while strengthening the role of villages as active actors in maintaining health based on local potential.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has rendered gadgets anintegral component of students' lives. However, the unregulated use ofthese devices may adversely affect the quality of the teaching and learningprocess (PBM). This study seeks to examine the relationship betweengadget usage and students' learning concentration and discipline atMadrasah Aliyah Kabar, East Lombok. Employing a quantitative designwith a survey approach, complemented by classroom observation, theresearch involved a sample of 70 students selected through purposivesampling. Data collection was conducted using a Likert scalequestionnaire and student learning behavior observation sheets. The datawere analyzed utilizing descriptive statistics and Pearson correlationtests. The findings revealed a significant negative correlation betweengadget use, predominantly for non-educational activities such as socialmedia and digital games, and student learning concentration (r = −0.45; p= 0.001) as well as student discipline (r = −0.38; p = 0.032). This impact isevidenced by reduced attention spans, increased distractions fromnotifications, violations of electronic device usage rules in the classroom, and delays in assignment submission. These results suggest that excessivegadget use can diminish the effectiveness of PBM and have implicationsfor student learning outcomes. Consequently, it is necessary to implementpolicies restricting gadget use within the school environment, enhancedigital literacy and time management among students, and integratetechnology judiciously to support productive learning.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges faced by parents in Bejelo Hamlet, Jonggat District, Central Lombok, in sending their children to higher education during the 2022/2023 academic year. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews with parents, students, teachers, and community leaders, alongside documentation from schools and relevant institutions. Data analysis followed an interactive process involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal three primary issues: (1) economic constraints, as most parents are farmers with limited income; (2) motivational factors, where some children lack the drive to continue their studies and prefer work; and (3) informational barriers, with parents having limited knowledge of higher education and scholarship opportunities. The study concludes that significant structural and cultural barriers remain in pursuing higher education. A collaborative effort among schools, local governments, communities, and families is essential to foster a more supportive educational environment. Recommendations include need-based scholarships, increased awareness of higher education, and career guidance at the secondary school level.
