Abstract

Background: Grilled intestines (sate usus) is one of favorite foods in Yogyakarta, not only because of its delicious taste, but also because of its cheap price and unique shape. To ensure the food safety, the existence of Escherichia coli was examined.  Objective: To identify factors related to the existence of Escherichia coli on sate usus in one of traditional food stall (angkringan) at Malioboro tourism area. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study involved 38 respondents selected using accidental sampling from April to May 2019. The determinants of the existence of Escherichia coli include the sellers' knowledge, behavior, personal hygiene, food serving practice, and sanitation facilities. The existence of Escherichia coli was tested using a laboratory test. The correlations between Escherichia coli and its determinants were analyzed using Chi-Square tests and simple logistic regression. Results: The result of the laboratory test showed that 39.5% of sate usus positively contained Escherichia coli bacteria. Among all factors, only food serving practice was associated with the existence of Escherichia coli. The sellers who had poor food serving practice were three times more likely having Escherichia coli on their sate usus (OR= 3.30, 95% CI= 1.967-5.536).Conclusion: These findings suggested that public health providers should design programs to provide training for food sellers in order to serve food well and healthily. This is crucial to do to ensure the food safety in the tourist areas in Indonesia.

Abstract

Background: Various water-borne diseases have been seen in developed and developing countries, like  Coliform bacteria in food and drink due to their poor making. Objective: This study aims to estimate the hygiene factors and examine the content of Coliform bacteria and in Thai Tea drinks in Yogyakarta Municipality. Methods: A cross-sectional method was used in all Thai Tea product sellers in Yogyakarta Municipality from September to November 2020. A total of 30 sellers were included, and 30 different types of Thai Tea products were tested using the Most Probably Number (MPN) method at the Health and Calibration Laboratory Center, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Descriptive statistics, Chi-square, and Fisher exact test were used for data analysis. Results: Laboratory tests showed half of Thai Tea products contaminated with Coliform bacteria more than MPN/100ML. Of all Thai Tea sellers, about 83.3% of them were never hygiene food sanitation training. Findings also show that the seller's hygiene sanitation was significantly associated with the existence of Coliform bacteria in Thai Tea (Crude OR=0.44, 95% CI=0.20-0.98). The sellers with poor sanitation facilities were four times more likely to have Coliform bacteria in their Thai Tea products (Crude OR=4.0, 95% CI=1.41-11.35). Meanwhile, hygiene food sanitation training and location of selling did not have a significant relationship with the presence of Coliform in Thai Tea.Conclusion: In sum, the existence of Coliform in Thai Tea drinks in the city of Yogyakarta is influenced by the hygiene sanitation and sanitation facility. Training on personal hygiene for each seller is necessary to obtain Thai Tea products that contain Coliform bacteria according to standards. This is very useful to do to reduce food-borne disease. This study was funded by Ahmad Dahlan University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) Develop a work-based learning-based industrial practicum platform; (2) Know the feasibility of a work-based learning-based industrial practicum platform; and (3) Know whether there is an effectiveness of student learning with a work-based learning-based industrial practicum platform. This type of research is Research and Development (RD) with the Four-D model, and the research subjects are class C students as an experimental class with a total of 21 students and class B students as a control class with a total of 22 students. Data collection uses a questionnaire method to determine the feasibility of the media used for research and written test questions in the form of multiple choice with a total of 20 questions. The data analysis test used a normality test, homogeneity test, and t-test. The research data showed that: (1) The procedure for developing practical learning media based on work-based learning includes the defining stage, planning stage, development stage, and dissemination stage; (2) Work-based learning media is feasible to use as a learning media in light vehicle electrical maintenance subjects. This can be proven from the validation results of media expert lecturers who showed 82.50% of the score indicating valid criteria. Validation by material expert lecturers showed 78.75% of the score obtained, indicating quite valid criteria; and (3) The t-test results (t-count = 6.021 and p = 0.000) prove that the work-based learning-based practicum platform made is effective for improving student learning outcomes. This is shown through the response of trial students, which includes small group trials, obtaining 77%, which includes five students, and large group trials, obtaining 80.50%, which includes 15 students. The normality test obtained p = 0.059 in the control class and p = 0.115 in the experimental class because p 0.05 indicates that both groups are normally distributed. Through the homogeneity test, F count = 0.762 with p = 0.388 because p 0.05, the two groups have homogeneous variants. Thus, the industrial platform practice based on work-based learning can improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

The use of chemical pesticides in controlling pests is still widely used by some farming communities in Babatan Village, Lintang Kanan District, Empat Lawang Regency. Improved use of chemical pesticides hurts agricultural production and the environment. One alternative to chemical pesticides is plant-based pesticides which are safer and more environmentally friendly in supporting the implementation of integrated pest control (IPM). The results of a field survey in Babatan Village show that many plants can be used as vegetable pesticides, such as citronella (Cymbopogon sp) as a substitute for chemical pesticides. This counseling activity aims to introduce the benefits and methods of making lemongrass extract to control the pest stink bugs (Leptocorisa acuta L.) which attack many rice plants in Babatan Village. Implementation of activities on 4-5 February 2022 with the target targeting members of the Makmur Jaya Farmer Group. This community service activity uses counseling methods (lectures and discussions), demonstrations, and evaluations. The results of this activity indicate that the members of the Makmur Jaya Farmer Group, Babatan Village, Lintang Kanan District, Empat Lawang Regency gave a good response, can understand, and will apply the method of making and using the lemon grass plant pesticide in suppressing the stink bugs pest population so that the cost of buying chemical pesticides can be reduced, produce healthy plants, no residue that pollutes the product and the environment, and sustainably increases production.
