Abstract

School-Based Management (SBM) is an educational management approach that grants schools autonomy to manage resources and make independent decisions by involving principals, teachers, parents, and the community to improve education quality. This study aims to describe the implementation of SBM at Linggang Bigung Public Senior High School as a strategic effort to enhance school quality. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, the research focuses on the planning, implementation, evaluation, and supervision processes of SBM at SMAN 1 and SMAN 2 Linggang Bigung. Data were collected through interviews with principals, teachers, students, and parents, as well as through documentation analysis related to SBM implementation. The findings indicate that the implementation of SBM successfully created a learning environment more relevant to the needs of students and the community, while also increasing transparency and accountability in school management. Evaluations conducted at both schools showed significant achievements in academic performance and student character development. However, follow-up actions on evaluation results still require optimization, particularly in strengthening corrective measures and improving facilities and infrastructure. Furthermore, the principals’ leadership, characterized by adaptive and transformational styles, effectively motivated teachers and staff to innovate in teaching practices. In conclusion, active participation from all stakeholders—including teachers, students, parents, and school committees plays a crucial role in reinforcing SBM implementation, which in turn contributes to comprehensive improvements in education quality.

Abstract

The principal’s leadership strategy in building collaboration is a series of planned and structured steps taken by the principal to encourage, empower, and unite the school, parents, and the community to actively participate in the educational process at school. This study aims to identify and analyze the principal’s leadership strategies in building effective collaboration between the school, parents, and the community at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Muslimin Indonesia Center (MIC) Samarinda City. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that: (1) The principal implements adaptive and participatory leadership strategies, such as establishing open communication, holding regular meetings, and involving parents and the community in decision-making and school program implementation. (2) The obstacles and challenges faced include a lack of awareness and time from parents, minimal two-way communication, and limited community resources. (3) To overcome these obstacles, the principal conducts communication initiatives, designs attractive collaborative programs, and provides training for parents and the community to better understand their important role in education. (4) The principal also optimizes the role of parents and the community by empowering them in various school activities. The conclusion of this study is that effective and contextual leadership strategies have proven capable of building a solid partnership between the school, parents, and the community, thus contributing positively to improving the quality of learning and strengthening students’ character. Strong collaboration among these three parties is essential to support the improvement of education quality and the holistic development of students. However, the involvement of parents and the community in school activities remains low and is not yet optimally structured, thus requiring the active role of the principal as a leader and facilitator

Abstract

Cognitive Leap or Digital Divide? A Comparative Study on AI-Driven Learning and Student Analytical Capacity in Samarinda and Aceh. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on teaching methods on students' analytical thinking abilities in Aceh and Samarinda, two distinct regions of Indonesia. This study explores whether AI functions as a reflective cognitive stimulant or simply as a way to speed up students' assignments. Method: This study employed a descriptive qualitative analysis, utilizing data collection methods such as semi-structured interviews with 80 participants, comprising 20 teachers and 60 high school students from Aceh and Samarinda. In addition, analytical tools such as NVivo 14 also supported the data management process, such as selective, axial, and open coding. Purposive sampling was used to select participants representing diverse educational environments and varying digital literacy levels. Through researcher triangulation, peer debriefing, and member checking, thematic saturation was ensured, and rigor was upheld. Findings: The results show significant regional variations in the use of AI. AI is utilized as a tool for introspection, argument construction, and investigation of various viewpoints in Samarinda, where educators demonstrate higher levels of digital and pedagogical literacy. Students actively utilize ChatGPT and related sites to develop their critical thinking skills. On the other hand, due to a lack of teacher supervision and limited exposure to technology, AI is primarily used in Aceh to automate tasks with minimal critical engagement. Students often turn to AI for quick responses, which can hinder their ability to think critically and develop their analytical skills. Conclusion: This study concluded that the quality of teacher mediation and the pedagogical context have a greater influence on students' analytical abilities than access to technology. Reflective learning techniques, teacher digital competence, and an educational culture that prioritizes critical thinking over task completion are all necessary for effective AI integration. Keywords: artificial intelligence, analytical thinking, teacher literacy, digital education, ChatGPT, pedagogical approach.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technologies has fundamentally reshaped educational systems worldwide, compelling higher education institutions to adopt adaptive management strategies that align with evolving pedagogical and operational demands. In this context, a community service program (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat – PKM) was implemented at Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Brunei Darussalam, to strengthen institutional capacity for digital transformation in educational management. The program specifically targeted UNISSA’s administrators, lecturers, IT personnel, and selected student representatives, fostering a comprehensive understanding of digital governance, smart campus systems, Learning Management System (LMS) optimization, and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education. Using a combination of public seminars, interactive workshops, hands-on demonstrations, mentoring sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities, the initiative facilitated bilateral learning between Universitas Mulawarman (UNMUL) and UNISSA. The program’s outcomes included improved comprehension of digital management frameworks, heightened awareness of the role of digital leadership and robust infrastructure, and the identification of strategic pathways for sustaining transformation. Additionally, cross-institutional exchange enriched participants’ perspectives by integrating global best practices with localized policy and cultural contexts. The PKM not only advanced UNISSA’s readiness for digital innovation but also strengthened long-term academic collaboration between Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam.
