Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of patchwork weaving activities in enhancing children's concentration during learning at TK A'isyiyah Bustanul Athfal 1 Kemantren. Using the Classroom Action Research model by Kemmis and Mc. Taggart, twelve children participated in two cycles of patchwork weaving sessions, with the second cycle involving independent work. Results show a significant increase in children's concentration from Cycle I to Cycle II, indicating the effectiveness of patchwork weaving in improving their focus and engagement during learning activities. These findings suggest that incorporating patchwork weaving into early childhood education could contribute to better learning experiences and cognitive development for young children. Hightligh: Engagement: Patchwork enhances learning engagement. Independence: Children work independently. Cognitive Growth: Concentration improves cognitive development. Abstract

General Background: Religious education plays a crucial role in early childhood development, fostering foundational skills in Islamic learning. Specific Background: One essential skill is the ability to recite and recognize hijaiyyah letters, including their pronunciation, symbols, and harakat, which for children aged 5–6 years remains at the introductory stage. Knowledge Gap: Conventional methods for teaching hijaiyyah often lack engaging and interactive elements, and limited studies have explored the structured use of tactile media for this age group in a formal early childhood setting. Aims: This study aims to improve the recitation skills of children aged 5–6 years through the use of smart hijaiyyah block media (BACERYAH) at TK Anak Sholeh, Magersari. Results: Using a classroom action research design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, involving 12 children, the study recorded an increase in average achievement from 49% (pre-cycle) to 71% (Cycle I) and 83% (Cycle II). Novelty: This research introduces BACERYAH as a structured, multisensory learning tool that integrates visual, tactile, and repetitive practice in early Islamic literacy. Implications: Findings highlight BACERYAH’s potential as an effective medium for supporting early Quranic literacy, offering educators an engaging approach to strengthen foundational religious education in early childhood settings. Highlights: Integration of religious education in early childhood learning Use of BACERYAH as an interactive hijaiyyah learning tool Significant improvement in children’s recitation skills Keywords: Baceryah, Hijaiyyah Letters, Early Childhood Education, Quranic Literacy, Classroom Action Research

Abstract

General Background: Education plays a crucial role in developing students’ cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains, with psychomotor skills being essential for practical science learning. Specific Background: In elementary science education, instructional practices often emphasize cognitive knowledge, leaving psychomotor skill development underexplored. Knowledge Gap: Limited research addresses effective strategies for enhancing psychomotor abilities in primary school science contexts. Aims: This study aimed to improve the psychomotor skills of 4th grade primary school students in natural science learning through the application of the experimental method. Results: Using a weak-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest, and saturated sampling of all 19 students, psychomotor ability was measured across three indicators: conducting experiments, analyzing results, and presenting findings. The intervention yielded an N-gain score of 0.71, categorized as high, with notable improvements in conducting (0.89) and analyzing (0.92) experiments. Novelty: This study integrates hands-on experimental activities with structured psychomotor assessment, demonstrating the experimental method’s potential to bridge theory and practice in elementary science education. Implications: Findings highlight the importance of incorporating active, practice-oriented strategies in science curricula to foster holistic learning, suggesting that future research explore scalable, innovative models to sustain psychomotor development in primary education. Highlights: Significant improvement in psychomotor skills using experimental method. Highest gains in conducting and analyzing experiments. Supports active, hands-on learning in elementary science. Abstract

General Background: The integration of cultural contexts into education has gained increasing attention as a means to enhance relevance and engagement in learning. Specific Background: In Indonesia, the application of ethnoscience within the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach has shown potential for improving students’ comprehension of integrated Science and Social Studies (IPAS) by linking concepts to local wisdom. Knowledge Gap: However, empirical evidence on the effectiveness of ethnoscience-based CTL for elementary-level IPAS learning remains limited. Aim: This study investigates the effectiveness of ethnoscience-based CTL in enhancing learning outcomes, engagement, and perceptions among fifth-grade students. Results: Conducted at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Sedati with 30 participants, the experimental one-group pretest–posttest design revealed that teacher performance and student activity were both rated “good,” learning outcomes improved significantly with an N-Gain of 70% (high category), and student responses were positive. Novelty: The study uniquely combines CTL and ethnoscience in IPAS learning, demonstrating how cultural integration strengthens conceptual understanding. Implications: These findings support the adoption of culturally grounded CTL approaches to foster active participation, improve achievement, and promote meaningful connections between academic content and students’ sociocultural environment. Highlights: Combines CTL with ethnoscience for IPAS learning. Achieves high N-Gain in student outcomes. Enhances engagement through cultural relevance. Keywords: Effectiveness, CTL Approach, Ethnoscience, Science Education, Student Engagement

Abstract

General background: Inclusive education has gained global attention as an effort to ensure equal learning opportunities for all children, including those with special needs. Specific background: However, many non-inclusive schools remain unprepared to provide appropriate services, particularly in fulfilling curriculum needs for children with special needs at the kindergarten level. Knowledge gap: Limited studies explicitly explore how non-inclusive early childhood institutions address curriculum adaptation for children with special needs. Aims: This study aims to examine the implementation of learning curricula for children with special needs in a non-inclusive kindergarten and to identify the challenges faced by the institution. Results: Findings reveal that while the school accepts children with special needs, it lacks a specific curriculum, adequate facilities, and trained human resources, relying instead on partial adjustments to regular curricula and basic individualized support. Novelty: This study contributes insight into how non-inclusive schools attempt to accommodate children with special needs despite structural limitations. Implications: The results highlight the urgent need for policy support, teacher training, and curriculum design tailored to early childhood special needs education. Highlights: Curriculum adaptation in non-inclusive kindergartens. Lack of trained teachers and resources. Need for policy and practical support. Keywords: Early Childhood Education, Special Needs, Inclusive Curriculum, Non-Inclusive Schools, Educational Policy

Abstract

Eco-enzyme can solve the problem of waste in households and markets. Eco-enzymes can be a resource for healthy and productive cultivation of vegetables and herbs. Utilization of waste into eco-enzymes can be a new source of income and reduce costs for fertilizers and pesticides for vegetables and herbs. Eco-enzymes can be used for various purposes such as pesticides, liquid fertilizers, growth regulators (ZPT), enzymes that are beneficial for crops and the environment. The results of the analysis of pretest, posttest, and community enthusiasm for processing waste into eco-enzyme are very strong, which can be seen from the answers given by the participants after participating in the training on making eco-enzyme. Previously, in the pretest test, it could be concluded that the peoples in Lubuk Batee Village generally did not know how to make eco-enzyme and its application. Posttest after the implementation of making Eco-enzyme, the results of the response analysis from the two partners showed a significant increase in knowledge and skills in both community groups and this continued to increase after they saw the results of eco-enzyme application on crops. The introduction of eco-enzyme production in two community groups in Lubuk Batee Village, Ingin Jaya Subdistrict, Aceh Besar District has increased the knowledge and skills of partners to process waste into useful products and can reduce waste and its side effects on the environment. Eco-enzyme can also be made into various other products that are beneficial to society.
