Abstract

This study investigates how the integration of the creative economy and the halal industry can serve as a strategic mechanism to strengthen global economic inclusivity, with Pekalongan City as the empirical focus. The research aims to analyze the contribution of batik, Muslim fashion, and halal culinary sectors to local identity and economic growth, identify obstacles faced by micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and formulate strategies to improve their competitiveness. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study adopts a structured literature review of peer-reviewed journal articles, government documents, and relevant international reports to ensure reliable and up-to-date sources. The analysis shows that although the creative sectors hold strong cultural and economic value, MSMEs are constrained by limited digital literacy, inadequate access to inclusive financing, and fragmented halal certification systems. The findings indicate that integrating digital transformation, sharia-compliant financing schemes, and harmonized halal standards can enhance MSME capabilities, expand global market access, and strengthen international recognition. Overall, the study concludes that synergy between the creative economy and the halal industry can build a sustainable ecosystem that promotes innovation and inclusiveness while preserving Pekalongan’s cultural distinctiveness in the global economy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the influence of the degree of fiscal decentralization, balancing funds, and economic growth on the Islamic Human Development Index (I-HDI) in eight provinces in Indonesia with the lowest I-HDI scores. To fill the research gap, these provinces were categorised based on I-HDI intervals. This study contributes in addressing empirical gaps by focusing on the regions that have received limited attention in the context of Islam-based human development, as well as substantive gaps by integrating variables of fiscal decentralization and balancing funds that have rarely been directly examined in relation to the I-HDI. Methodologically, the System Generalised Method of Moments (System-GMM) approach is applied to address potential endogeneity and the dynamic nature of panel data. A region’s capacity to finance public expenditure is reflected in the degree of fiscal decentralization, while balancing funds serves as the main source for financing public welfare. Although economic growth is generally expected in enhancing welfare, it may exacerbate social inequality if not accompanied by inclusive policies and equitable distribution. The results of this study indicate that the degree of fiscal decentralization has no significant effect on I-HDI in either the short or long term. Conversely, balancing funds has a significantly negative impact, reflecting allocative inefficiency. Economic growth also negatively affects the I-HDI across both time horizons, indicating that its benefits are not evenly distributed. These findings emphasise the need for comprehensive policy evaluation to improve resource allocation efficiency and promote equitable and sustainable human development in line with the principles of Maqasid al-Shariah (Sharia principles).

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to describe the influence of influencers on Gen Z in halal purchase intention, especially in Gen Z in cities with high socio-religiosity, and to test whether religiosity is able to moderate the attitudes of influencers in their role as mediators.Methodology – This study employs a quantitative approach using structural equation modeling–partial least squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0, based on data collected from 262 Gen Z respondents in Pekalongan, a city characterized by strong socio-religious values. Drawing on the theory of planned behavior (TPB), the model integrates trust, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, credibility, attitude, and religiosity to explain halal purchase intention in a social media environment.Findings – The results reveal that attitude is the strongest predictor of halal purchase intention. Trust, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control significantly and positively influence attitude, although their effect sizes are relatively weak. In contrast, credibility does not significantly affect attitude. Attitude significantly mediates the relationship between influencer-related factors and purchase intention. Religiosity, however, neither directly influences purchase intention nor moderates the relationship between attitude and purchase intention.Implications – These findings suggest that marketers should focus on strengthening positive consumer attitudes through trust-building, social endorsement, and perceived consumer control, rather than relying solely on influencer credibility or religiosity cues.Originality – This study extends halal consumption literature by integrating religiosity and attitude within the TPB framework and provides empirical evidence on influencer-driven halal purchase behavior among Gen Z in a highly religious social context.

Abstract

The sale and purchase of the “Janda Bolong” plant which was busy in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic at a very fantastic price, which was then suspected to contain monkey business practices. So this study aims to describe a review of the Islamic economic philosophy of monkey business practices in the “Janda Bolong” plants sale and purchase transaction. The research method used is a qualitative research method with the type of library research using a deductive approach. The results of this study indicate that the practice of buying and selling that occurs in the object of the plant “Janda Bolong” is a type of monkey business with objects that are not commonly practiced. The “Janda Bolong” plant sale and purchase transaction contains a fasid (damaged) contract, where the contract is in accordance with the Sharia but in the nature of the contract there is a problem. The price formation process that occurs in it is also unfair, so it is not in accordance with Islamic law. In Islamic economic philosophy, the practice of monkey business in buying and selling the “Janda Bolong” plant is not allowed. Because it denotes the essence of the creation of humans on earth, namely as a caliphate by processing the available resources in order to achieve happiness in this world and the hereafter.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the perceptions of Muslim Generation Z in Pekalongan regarding the convenience of cashless payments and their impact on consumer behavior within an Islamic economic framework. This qualitative study investigates the nuanced perceptions of 30 purposively sampled Muslim Generation Z individuals in Pekalongan concerning the convenience of cashless payment methods and their influence on their consumer behavior, specifically within the ethical guidelines of Islamic economics. In-depth interviews explored how this digitally native generation navigates modern consumerism while adhering to Islamic financial tenets. Findings indicate a conscious effort among participants to integrate principles like tasarruf (prudent financial management) and avoidance of israf (wasteful spending) into their utilization of cashless platforms. Features such as transaction tracking functionalities and cashback incentives are actively employed as tools for enhanced expenditure control and budget management. The study underscores the potential of cashless technology to facilitate financial practices aligned with Sharia principles, empowering Generation Z Muslims to make more informed, prudent, and ultimately responsible financial decisions in their daily transactions.

Abstract

The halal tourism industry has shown significant growth acceleration and has become one of the strategic sectors in the global economy. The Southeast Asian region occupies an important position in this development, supported by a rich cultural heritage, the dominance of the Muslim population, and progressive economic dynamics. This study aims to examine in depth the key success factors and challenges in the development of community-based halal tourism destinations in the region. The research was conducted using an exploratory qualitative approach through a cross-country literature study covering Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand by applying thematic analysis to relevant academic sources, policy documents and case studies. The research findings indicate that the success of halal destination development is strongly influenced by the active participation of local communities, government policy support, and the availability of adequate halal infrastructure. On the other hand, the challenges faced include limited human resource capacity, financial constraints, resistance to cultural change, and misalignment of halal regulations between countries. Based on the analysis, it is concluded that the strategies of community empowerment, infrastructure quality improvement, and regional policy harmonization are crucial steps in building inclusive, competitive, and sustainable community-based halal tourism destinations in Southeast Asia.

Abstract

Abdurrahman Wahid is one of the figures that can align the relationship between religion and state ideology within the framework of Indonesian plurality. Theological thoughts in Indonesia have caused many conflicts. One of them is in Islam, where groups appear in the name of Islam and are anti-Pancasila and anti-diversity. Such movements have often been eradicated. However, it will re-emerge in a new form and never seems to die. This is due to the inability of the people to interpret Islamic law with the right measurement tools. The researcher seeks to explore Gus Dur's thoughts with a dialectical focus on the concepts of religion and state, especially the relationship between Islam. From this thought, it is hoped that it can become one of the references in efforts to create harmony in the relationship between religion and the state. So that in the future anti-diversity and Pancasila movements will no longer be the cause of conflict between state ideology and religion. This research is a type of library research, namely research using library data sources. This research uses qualitative with historical and philosophical approaches. Data is sourced from primary data and secondary data. Primary data comes from Gus Dur's books and secondary data comes from other literary sources. Let religious diversity be the difference, but the plurality of this society must be equated in the attitude of humanism or human values. Religion (read: Islam) adapts as necessary to ideology and state laws, without having to let go of the transcendental principles that have been established by Allah SWT. Islam that needs to be upheld is Islam as Rahmatan Lil Alamin where there is the existence of implementing basic Islamic values such as peace, humanity, tolerance, and so on. The absence of an Islamic state does not mean that Muslims must live individually. However, they can form a community and formulate the obligatory collective religion they profess.

Abstract

This service aims to analyze the regeneration conditions of palm juice penderes which are used as palm sugar. The youth population as the regeneration of palm sugar growers in Kayupuring village is the spearhead of sustainable palm sugar production. The interest of the community, especially the youth, in the production of palm sugar is very small. They prefer to work in other fields other than as a palm juicer. This community service was conducted in the village of Kayupuring, Petungkriyono District, Pekalongan Regency in March 2020. The data collection methods in this study were interviews, documentation, observation and data validity methods using the triangulation method of data sources which included sugar palm growers (producers), youth, and the government. Kayupuring village. The results of the study concluded that the condition of the regeneration of palm sugar palm growers in Kayupuring village was worrying. The lack of youth and youth awareness is the root of the problem in the regeneration of palm sugar palm growers in Kayupuring village. The role of youth is very important for the sustainability of palm sugar in Kayupuring village. However, the participation of the village government as the holder of the government needs to be carried out as a supporter so that youth awareness will grow and the regeneration of palm juice growers will be maintained. Supporting efforts in making youth aware are by holding workshops or socialization as well as trainings on more modern palm sap management as a form of empowerment to the community. Village funds are allocated for community empowerment so that the benefits of village funds can be felt in the long term.
