Theory of emotional intelligence has been proven to contribute to the teaching and learning process, and increase studentsâ achievement. This research was aimed at investigating if there was any correlation among emotional intelligence, reading motivation on reading comprehension achievement of eleventh grade students of SMAN 2 Kota Lubuklinggau. Two hundred and ninety four students participated in this research. Emotional intelligence questionnaire, reading motivation questionnaire and studentsâ reading comprehension test were used as the instruments. Analyses by Pearson Product-Moment Correlation revealed that there was correlation between emotional intelligence and reading comprehension achievement with r-obtained (.155) and p (.008). At the same time, there was also correlation between reading motivation and reading comprehension achievement with robtained (.165) and p (.005). Furthermore, regression analyses showed that emotional intelligence and reading motivation could predict reading comprehension by explaining 4.6% of the changes in reading comprehension achievement respectively.

Reading comprehension is a bridge to understand scientific books that is why the students of Indonesia should to understand and comprehend. The study aims to know whether story grammar strategy improve the studentsâ reading comprehension or not. The focus of this study was the tenth grades students of SMA Negeri Bangun Jaya, X1 as experiment group and X3 as control group. The sample was chosen by the cluster sampling technique. This study was non-equivalent control group design. The data was analyzed by using pretest and posttest data. The result showed there was significant difference in reading comprehension achievement between the students who were taught by using story grammar strategy and those who were taught by using conventional strategy. The students who are taught by using story grammar strategy could improve their reading comprehension achievement significantly. Most of the students in the experimental group could share the information of the next to their classmates.

Reading plays an important role to help people develop their knowledge and broaden their horizon. This research focuses on the children reading motivation in remote area. Two hundred and six children are involved in this study. They are grouped into experiment and control group. The experiment group was given children’s books in order to improve their reading motivation. To know the improvement, this study used questionnaire by Wigfield and Guthrie to be analized through SPSS 20. The result shows that children in the experiment group are more motivated than the control one. Based on the Mean result, there is significant improvement between pre and post test in experiment group; 67.53 to 81.42. In the same line, the result of Tcount 26,747 > t tabel 1,986, it means there is significant difference between pre and post result. Meanwhile, The mean of Control group is not significant improvement; 68.08 to 68.05. Control group also has Tcount 1,731 < Ttabel 1,986 that means there is no significant difference between pre and post result. It can be concluded that children’s books are useful to improve the children’s reading motivation or the love of reading in remote area.

The instruments of the test were multiple choice items and semi-structure interview to the students and lecturers. The tests were used multiple-choice items that consisted of 45 items; 25 items for structure and for reading sections 20 items. The test was designed based on the validity, reliability and curriculum. The sample of this research was 32 students of the first semester in Musi Rawas University. The result of this study showed that the students were mastered structure/grammar section more rather than reading section test. Their lecturers often taught grammar rather than reading and their lack of interest in reading were the reasons.
