Abstract

Self-harm is a behavior of intentionally hurting oneself that often emerges among adolescents, particularly girls, as a coping mechanism for emotional and social pressures. This study aims to explore the characteristics of self-harm behavior among adolescents by examining four main aspects: overt self-harm, eating disorder, high lethal actions, and behaviors relating to medical issues. A total of 127 respondents participated in the study, with the majority aged 16–17 years (42.52%), predominantly Minang ethnic group (95.28%), most attending religious classes (74.02%), and mostly from complete family backgrounds (85.83%). Data were collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed descriptively to identify the frequency, percentage, and category of self-harm indicators. The results indicate that overt self-harm behaviors such as intentionally injuring oneself, hitting the body, or burning the skin were mostly found at a low level, although a small portion reached the moderate category. In the eating disorder aspect, indicators such as fasting for 24 hours due to guilt, skipping meals for attention, and using laxatives as self-punishment were generally categorized as low, with only fasting behavior reaching moderate. Similarly, the high lethal aspect, including consuming excessive medication, ignoring dosage, and attempted suicide through wrist-cutting, was also categorized as low. Lastly, behaviors relating to medical issues, such as not treating wounds, ignoring medication when sick, or using unauthorized prescription drugs, were likewise predominantly in the low category. Overall, the findings reveal that although self-harm tendencies are present among adolescents, the majority are at a low level across all aspects, with only certain eating disorder and overt self-harm indicators reaching moderate levels. These results highlight the importance of early detection and preventive interventions to minimize the escalation of self-harm behaviors among adolescents.

Abstract

Abstract

This research looks at the mechanism of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) and how effective it is in addressing Self-Injury behavior among high school students through group counseling. Using the literature review technique, this study evaluated articles, books, and previous research related to this topic. The results of the analysis showed that REBT has significant potential to improve emotion regulation skills in adolescents and reduce Self-Injury behavior. Students involved in group counseling with the REBT approach showed a significant increase in their ability to manage their negative emotions and self-esteem, as well as a significant decrease in the frequency of their Self-Injury behaviors. The influence of the social environment, such as peer group dynamics and family conditions, contributing to self-injury behavior, was the main concern of this study. It was found that students who experienced social pressure, such as bullying, had a greater tendency to engage in self-injury behaviors. In addition, there were significant gender differences in self-injury behaviors: female students more often used methods such as cutting, while male students tended to use more visible methods. This study suggests that a counseling program incorporating REBT is essential to create a safe and welcoming environment for students. By getting the right support from parents and counselors, it is expected that Self-Injury behavior will be less and adolescents' mental health will be better. The findings suggest that this method not only serves as a therapy but also helps adolescents' emotional development.

Abstract

This study aims to see how group guidance with a client-centred therapy approach in early childhood improves prosocial behaviour. This study uses library research method. Data analysis in this study used a narrative synthesis analysis. The results of this study indicate that prosocial behaviour is behaviour that is displayed when interacting with other people where children spontaneously help others. Prosocial behaviour is displayed by early childhood to the friends, parents, teachers and the surrounding community. Group guidance with a client-centred therapy approach provides counselling techniques to make early childhood become individuals who can understand their potential and actualize their social relationships. In the implementation of group guidance, early childhood will interact and communicate with each other; the counsellor can ask them to practice these prosocial behaviours. Either by answering questions if (...) then (...) or by telling how he should act when faced with a situation that requires displaying this prosocial behaviour.

Abstract

Anxiety is something that everyone tends to experience. Basically, individuals who are in an anxious state will find it difficult to think optimally and cannot carry out their activities smoothly and optimally like normal people in general. So that this anxiety is very important to be overcome and minimized so as not to have a negative impact on the life of the individual. The purpose of this study is to see theoretically that REBT counseling can minimize anxiety. The research uses a literature study method. The data in this study was obtained from various references such as books, articles, journals and other scientific studies that are related to REBT and anxiety counseling. The data in this study were analyzed, classified, processed, and described in an easy-to-understand and understandable language. Based on the results of the theoretical review, it can be understood that anxiety is a psychological problem that stems from the inability to think rationally. So it is suitable to be overcome by providing REBT counseling that focuses on rationalizing individual irrational thoughts, and can be used to reduce or minimize anxiety experienced by individuals. However, it must be done by a professional counselor who can implement this REBT counseling properly according to the stages that have been set.
