Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive research is aim to find out the ability of the second semester students of English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau in writing a paragraph. The sample of this research is one of the three classes of the first year students of English Study Program which are choose by using cluster random sampling technique. The number of the sample is 37 students. The data were collected by giving a written test to the student individually. The test asked the students to write a paragraph by choosing one of the given topics. The students’ scores were analyzed by using Harris’ scoring system which concerned with five aspects of writing, they are Grammar, Vocabulary, Mechanics, Fluency and Organization. The findings show that the students’ average score for each aspect of writing was in “good” level where the students’ ability in terms of Vocabulary was the highest among the other aspects with the average score 71,91, while Mechanics was the lowest one, with the average score 64,08. Based on the results obtained, it can be inferred that the students are able to write a paragraph and their level of ability is in “good” level with the average score 66,98. By looking to the aspect the students mostly weak, that is Mechanics, this study recommended the students to do the two important ways that probably can solve this problem. The students need to learn and practice more about Mechanics. The more students learn and practice, the more they know about Mechanics. It will make them better in Mechanics aspect.Key Words: Study, Ability, Writing, Paragraph

Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive research was aimed at finding out how the ability of the second year students of SMAN 1 Gaung in comprehending Report texts. The sample was XI IPA 1 (30 students) chosen by cluster random sampling technique. The result showed that the reading ability of the second year students of SMAN 1 Gaung in comprehending report text is in good level with the mean score was 62.42. However, this score was lower than the minimum score criteria is 70.00. The most difficult aspect in comprehending report text was in finding factual information is 53.2 which was categorized into mediocre level. Then, the easiest aspect was in finding reference 75.3 which was categorized into good level. Based on research finding, it would be better to recommend as the follow. First, the students need to have more practice in finding factual information ability in reading activity. Second, the English teacher may increase the students? motivation and encourage them to read report text in English book as a part of practicing activities of comprehending report texts.Keywords: Study, Ability, Report Text.

Abstract

Abstract: This descriptive study aims to find out the grammatical errors, and the most frequent error made by the third year students of English study program Universitas Riau in writing an argumentative essay. The population of this study was the third year students of English study program Universitas Riau in the academic year 20174/2018. The third semester students were consisted of 90 as the population in this research. Thirty (30) students were taken as the sample. The method used in this research is a descriptive method. The data were collected using a written test, and were analyzed by using using Error Analysis Technique. The research findings reveal that the grammatical errros occurred were Subject verb agreement, Verb tense and form, Word order, Plurality, Preposition, Articles, Passive voice, and Auxiliary; the most frequent error was in Subject-Verb Agreement with 127 (29%) frequency.Keywords: Grammar, Error, Errors Analysis, Argumentative Essay

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine and analyze the Athletes Performance Improvement Policy Implementation and Training Development Center Regional Student (PPLPD) and the Regional Sports Office of Central Sulawesi Province. The main theory as a reference in this research is the theory of policy implementation that includes Edward III; (1) communication, (2) resources, (3) the disposition, (4) a bureaucratic structure. The research method using descriptive qualitative approach. The research location is housed at the Center for Student Development and Training Area (PPLPD) and the Office of the Provincial Sports Central Sulawesi with an informant as much as 5 people were selected purposively. The data collection was done by interviewing, observation, and documentation. Analysis using Interactive model of Miles and Huberman. Based on the results of research, policy implementation Improved Performance Athlete Development Center and Training Student Area (PPLPD) Department and the Regional Sports Central Sulawesi province when viewed from the aspect (1) communication, (2) resources, (3) disposition, and (4) the structure of the bureaucracy , indicating that it is not effective, because there are still aspects that have not been run, namely communication, resources and disposition, bureaucratic structure goes well, just need to be improved in order to carve the highest performance and won the gold medal at events nationally and internationally in the future will come as expectations that can boast of athletes, officials and governments PPLPD Central Sulawesi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan keterampilan berbicara siswa melalui permainan-permainan. Tipe penelitian yang digunankan adalah penelitian tindakan kelas dilaksanakan secara kolaboratif dalam dua siklus dalam hal ini peneliti bertindak sebagai pengajar sedangkan kolaboratornya bertindak sebagai pengamat dan setiap siklus terdiri dari dua pertemuan. Data penelitian ini diambil dari dua sumber utama, data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa penerapan permainan-permainan dapat mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Hal itu dapat dilihat melalui skor pencapaian dari 25 siswa, 36 % dari mereka dapat memenuhi kriteria ketuntasan minimal dari wawancara. Pada siklus I, 76% dari 25 siswa dapat memenuhi kriteria ketuntaan minimal. Siklus II, 100% dari 25 siswa dapat memenuhi kriteria ketuntasan minimal. Selanjutnya, skor tertinggi diperoleh siswa dari studi awal adalah 80 sedangkan pada siklus I, 82.5 dan pada siklus II, 90 akan tetapi skor terendah diperoleh siswa pada studi awal adalah 40 sedangkan pada siklus I, 57.5 dan  siklus II, 67.5 Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan permainan-permainan dapat mengembangkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris siswa. Kata kunci: permainan, mengembangkan, keterampilan berbicara.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Keracunan pestisida organofosfat merupakan salah satu masalah kesehatan yang umum terjadi di Indonesia. Melalui mekanisme penghambatan enzim asetilkolinesterase, paparan kronik organofosfat dapat memunculkan berbagai gangguan kognitif, salah satunya gangguan atensi.Tujuan: Mengetahui hubungan antara aktivitas asetilkolinesterase darah dan tingkat atensi pada petani kentang dengan paparan kronik pestisida organofosfat di Desa Kepakisan Banjarnegara.Method: Penelitian dengan rancangan belah lintang dilakukan pada 33 petani kentang Banjarnegara berjenis kelamin laki-laki berusia 18-59 tahun, yang telah bekerja sebagai petani selama minimal 2 tahun. Setiap subjek menjalani pemeriksaan asetilkolinesterase dengan Tintometer Kit (metode semikuantitatif) dilanjutkan dengan pengukuran atensi menggunakan aplikasi Attention Network Test (ANT). Data dianalisis menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman.Hasil :Dari seluruh subjek penelitian, 57.6 %  (n=19) petani mengalami keracunan ringan sedangkan 42.4%  (n=14) lainnya memiliki aktivitas asetilkolinesterase yang normal. Terdapat korelasi negatif bermakna antara aktivitas asetilkolinesterase darah dan total atensi, fungsi alerting serta orienting dengan derajat korelasi secara berurutan adalah -0,472 (p=0,006), -0,562 (p=0,001) dan -0,653 (p<0,001).Kesimpulan: Terdapat korelasi antara aktivitas asetilkolinesterase yang rendah dengan tingkat atensi yang buruk pada petani kentang dengan paparan kronik organofosfat di Kepakisan Banjarnegara.

Abstract

Abstract: This research aimed to find out the effect of using Jigsaw method on the ability of the first year students of SMA PGRI Pekanbaru in comprehending narrative texts. This is a pre-experimental research conducted by using a pre-test – treatment – post-test design.. The population of this study was the first year students of SMA PGRI Pekanbaru which consisted of 3 classes with the total of 115 students. The sample of this study was X.2 of social science class with 40 students.The writer, during treat the students, found that students’ motivation to read the text increase. Besides, students got more confidences to split out their opinion while discussion and present the result in front of the class. After treatment was held, the writer distributed the tests. The instrument of the research was a reading test with multiple choice type. The result showed a strong correlation between Jigsaw method and students’ reading comprehension. The results of data analysis showed that the mean score of pre-test was 64.03, and the mean score of post-test was 82.00. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test because the t-test observed was higher than t-table. In other words, the alternative hypothesis of this research was accepted. It means that Jigsaw method can be used as an alternative strategy in the teaching of reading.Keywords: Jigsaw, Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text

The sample was 2 Teknik Komputer dan Jaringan (TKJ) 1 (41 students) chosen by cluster random sampling technique. The result showed that the reading ability of the second year students of SMKN 1 Benai in comprehending recount text is in good level with the mean score was 65.60. However, this score was lower than the minimum score criteria is 75.00. The most difficult aspect in comprehending recount text was in finding references is 60.16 which was categorized into mediocre level. Then, the easiest aspect was in finding language features of recount text is 70.73 which was categorized into goo level. Based on research finding, it would be better to recommend as the follow. First, the students need to have more practice in finding references ability in reading activity. Second, the English teacher may increase the students’ motivation and encourage them to read recount text in English book as a part of practicing activities of comprehending recount texts.Key Words: Student’s Ability, Comprehending Recount Texts.

Abstract

Abstract: this descriptive research was conducted in order to find out the taboo words in the hitman’s bodyguard movie. The data were collected using the sociolinguistic approach. The data were in the form of utterances, while the contexts of the data were the dialogues uttered by the characters in the movie. The sources of the data were the video of Hitman’s Bodyguard movie and its transcript. The data were collected by selecting dialogues containing taboo words after watching the video and matching the transcript with the video carefully. The primary instrument of this research was a data sheet. The results of this research are stated as follows. Firstly, all of the types and the function of taboo words are appear in this movie. The types are obscenity,profanity, vulgarity, ephitet and for the functions are to draw attention to oneself, to be provocative, to show contempt, and to mock authority. From four of the types that appear in the movie, obscenity become the type with the highest frequency (46.29%) 25 times, the second is vulgarity with (20.37%) 11 times, the third is ephitet with (18.51%) 10 times, and the last one is profanity with (14.81%) 8 times. From four of the functions that appear in the movie to be provocativet become the function with the highest frequency (50%) 27 times, the second is to show contempt with (27.77%), the third is to draw attention to oneself with (20.37%), and the last one is to mock authority which is onle appear once in the movie (1.85%).Key Words: Sociolinguistics, Taboo Words, Hitman’s Bodyguard Movie

Abstract

Abstract : The aim of this study is to find out the ability of the second year students of SMKN 2 Pekanbaru in comprehending procedure texts. The population of this research is all of the second year students which consisted of 301 students. There were 40 students who participated in this study as sample. The instrument was a test adapted from authentic material. The frame of the test was covered by 5 components such as, finding main idea, finding factual information, finding meaning of difficult word, finding references, and finding generic structure. Each component consisted of 6 questions. The test contained 30 items. Before the test was administered, the test was tried out to find out the difficulty level and the reliability of the test. To analyze the data, the raw score of the students was calculated and the level of ability was identified by using the classification of ability level by Harris (1974). The result showed that the ability of the second year students of SMKN 2 Pekanbaru in comprehending procedure texts was at Mediocre level with mean score 51.8. Therefore, it can be concluded that most of the students were able to comprehend procedure texts. To reach this, the students were suggested to do more practice in reading procedure texts in order to comprehend and to improve the ability in reading due to the poorness of their reading ability.Key Words : Reading Ability, Reading Comprehension, Procedure Text
