Abstract

This study aims to determine the description of the algebraic thinking ability of fifth grade elementary school students in Lubuklinggau city. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The instruments used in this study were in the form of essay-shaped test questions to measure the initial algebraic thinking ability of elementary school students and non-tests in the form of interviews. The population in this study were upper elementary school students in the Lubuklinggau area. The sample in this study was selected using the stratified random sampling technique. From the population selected randomly, two schools were obtained as the place of this study. Based on the results of the study conducted by the researcher, it was obtained that the results of the algebraic thinking ability of 48 students on the first indicator were an average of 36%, on the second indicator an average of 30% was obtained, on the third indicator an average of 58% was obtained, on the fourth indicator an average of 61% was obtained and the fifth indicator an average of 40%. Of the five algebraic thinking indicators, the average ability of students was 45%. So it can be concluded that the algebraic thinking ability of elementary school students is still relatively low and there needs to be innovation in providing learning and teaching media to be able to improve the understanding of algebraic thinking of elementary school students as initial knowledge in preparing knowledge before learning algebra formally at the next level.

Abstract

Mahasiswa calon guru matematika yang memiliki peran dan fungsi dalam lingkungan pendidikan dituntut untuk berpikir tingkat tinggi dan melakukan penalaran tingkat tinggi, yang semuanya dapat terwujud dengan memiliki kemampuan dasar dalam mengkomunikasikan ide melalui pengembangan kemampuan berpikir matematis baik terhadap dirinya sendiri maupun kepada orang lain. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemampuan komunikasi matematis mahasiswa pada pembelajaran kalkulus integral secara keseluruhan kemampuan mahasiswa, berdasarkan kategori kemampuan, dan berdasarkan kemampuan setiap indikator kemampuan komunikasi matematis mahasiswa. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah kalkulus integral pada semester 4 tahun pelajaran 2021/2022 sebanyak 37 mahasiswa program studi pendidikan matematika di salah satu Universitas Negeri di Provinsi Bengkulu. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen dari penelitian ini menggunakan tes kemampuan komunikasi matematis dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1) secara keseluruhan kemampuan komunikasi mahasiswa sebesar 75,44% berada pada kategori baik, (2) berdasarkan kategori kemampuan komunikasi matematis menunjukkan bahwa kategori sangat baik berada pada 88,67%, kategori baik berada pada 73,54%, kategori cukup berada pada 52,59%, dan kategori kurang berada pada 40%. (3) kemampuan komunikasi matematis berdasarkan indikator yakni a) mengkonsilidasi pemikiran (ide/gagasan) secara tertulis berada pada 83,06%  dengan kategori sangat baik, b) menafsirkan ide atau konsep matematika dalam bentuk grafik, gambar atau tabel berada pada 78,38%  dengan kategori baik, c) mengekpresikan ide matematika dengan tepat berada pada 64,86% dengan kategori baik. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan komunikasi matematis mahasiswa masih belum optimal dan memerlukan perhatian dari praktisi pendidikan.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of mathematical reasoning ability of junior high school students in solving HOTS problems on the material of exponents by dividing them into three categories, namely high, medium, and low. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. The subjects of the study consisted of 25 grade IX students at one of the State Junior High Schools in Pekanbaru. The instrument used in the study was a mathematical reasoning ability test instrument with the material of exponents of 4 HOTS questions in the form of descriptions. The data analysis techniques used in this study consisted of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results showed that there were 2 students with a percentage of 8% in the high category, 20 students with a percentage of 80% in the medium category, and 3 students with a percentage of 12% in the low category. It can be concluded that the mathematical reasoning ability of grade IX students at one of Pekanbaru's junior high schools in solving HOTS problems on the material of exponents is still in the moderate category.

Abstract

Problem solving ability is one of the abilities that must be possessed by students, to increase logical, creative, and critical thinking in learning mathematics. One way that can be used to solve problems well is to use Polya's problem solving steps. However, not all students are able to solve social arithmetic problems using Polya's problem solving steps appropriately. This research aims to analyze junior high school students' understanding in solving social arithmetic problems based on Polya's steps. The method used in this research is descriptive with a qualitative approach. This research was conducted randomly to 30 junior high school students in grade VIII. This research uses test instruments and interviews with students and will be assessed based on the indicators met. Based on the research conducted, it was obtained that the students' problem understanding indicator was 50%, solution planning was 70%, implementation of the solution plan was 40%, and checking back was 23.33%. So based on the results of this study, students need to improve their ability to solve social arithmetic problems using Polya's steps.

Abstract

Kemampuan Computational Thinking (CT) adalah kemampuan penting abad ke-21 yang harus dimiliki oleh semua orang karena diprediksi akan menjadi keterampilan dasar layaknya membaca dan menulis. Kemampuan ini diyakini mampu mengantarkan generasi masa depan untuk dapat berhasil, baik dalam karier maupun kehidupan pribadinya. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengkaji lebih dalam mengenai kemampuan dekomposisi yang menjadi akar sekaligus kekuatan dari CT, dengan fokus pada kerangka Cognitive Computational Thinking. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah kelas VIII SMP Negeri yang ada di Kabupaten Sukabumi dengan jumlah siswa sebanyak 35 orang. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa tes tertulis, wawancara siswa dan guru. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan analisis data kualitatif yang meliputi tahap reduksi data, penyajian data, verifikasi, serta kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan dekomposisi CT siswa masih rendah. Hal ini disebabkan karena siswa belum pernah diberikan soal-soal berbasis CT dan guru juga belum familiar dengan kemampuan penting ini sehingga belum pernah menerapkannya pada pembelajaran di kelas.

Abstract

Pengembangan e-modul interaktif dengan pendekatan refresentasi matematis menjadi salah satu bahan ajar materi rasio. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengembangkan sumber belajar berupa e-modul interaktif berbasis HTML5 Package untuk meningkatkan kemampuan representasi matematis. Metode yang digunakan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (research and development) dengan model ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Sumber data didapatkan dari validator materi, validator media, peserta didik kelas VII Salah satu SMPN di Kabupaten Bandung. Analisis data untuk pengembangan e-modul interaktif berbasis HTML5 Package kriteria sangat valid dari ahli materi dan ahli media, memperoleh kriteria praktis dari peserta didik, dan efektif dalam peningkatan kemampuan representasi matematis. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa e-modul interaktif berbasis HTML5 Package bisa menjadi sumber belajar untuk mempelajari materi rasio dimanapun dan kapanpun karena praktis, efisien, dan mampu meningkatkan motivasi dan kemampuan refresentasi matematis siswa.

Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are essential for prospective elementary school teachers. However, many problems still occur in prospective elementary school teachers related to their mathematical communication skills. This study aims to describe the mathematical communication skills of prospective elementary school teachers and their level of self-regulated learning. This qualitative research, employing a phenomenological design, aims to explore and identify the mathematical communication skills of prospective elementary school teachers. Forty-eight prospective elementary school teachers participated in this study, and nine were selected for in-depth interviews to understand their mathematical communication skills better. The results showed that prospective elementary school teachers with high self-regulated learning almost met all indicators, prospective teachers with moderate self-regulated learning met three indicators, and prospective teachers with low self-regulated learning met one indicator. All of them were unable to provide mathematical solutions with rational reasons. Several factors cause prospective elementary school teachers not to have good mathematical communication skills, such as 1) lack of knowledge of basic geometry concepts, 2) lack of motivation to learn independently, 3) inability to manage what to learn, and 4) inability to evaluate their mistakes. Based on the research results, not all prospective elementary school teachers possess practical communication skills.

Abstract

Equality, including gender, is an essential principle in school mathematics education and learning. Previous research findings, however, have yielded mixed results in terms of students’ mathematics proficiency, particularly mathematical problem-solving abilities. Furthermore, mathematics anxiety is frequently related to a decline in these abilities. As a result, the purpose of this study is to examine gender disparities in students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities while accounting for the influence of students’ mathematics anxiety. This study used a survey method with 96 students chosen by cluster sampling from a public junior high school in an urban area. This study included two instruments: a mathematical problem-solving abilities test and a mathematics anxiety scale. The findings of this study show that: (1) there is no significant difference in students’ mathematics anxiety based on gender, (2) gender has no significant effect on students’ mathematical problem-solving abilities after controlling for mathematics anxiety, and (3) mathematics anxiety has a significant effect on mathematical problem-solving abilities after controlling for gender. These findings highlight the need for strategies for reducing mathematics anxiety in children. Comprehensive assistance from the learning environment, including the responsibilities of parents, teachers, and friends, as well as a positive learning environment, is intended to assist students in overcoming mathematics anxiety. Thus, this study has significant implications for the development of inclusive and successful mathematics learning strategies.

Abstract

Berangkat dari permasalahan rendahnya pemahaman siswa terhadap konsep rasio, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis jenis, letak, dan faktor penyebab kesalahan yang dilakukan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal cerita rasio dengan menggunakan Teori Kastolan sebagai kerangka analisis. Ketidakmampuan siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal berbasis cerita, yang menjadi ciri khas asesmen Kurikulum Merdeka, tidak hanya memengaruhi hasil belajar matematika, tetapi juga berimplikasi pada kemampuan berpikir logis dan pengambilan keputusan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif, melibatkan siswa kelas IX-A SMP Negeri 7 Bandung tahun ajaran 2024/2025 sebagai subjek. Data diperoleh melalui tes uraian materi rasio dan wawancara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat tiga jenis kesalahan, yaitu kesalahan konseptual sebesar 28%, prosedural sebesar 28%, dan teknikal sebesar 6%, sementara 38% siswa tidak melakukan kesalahan. Faktor-faktor penyebab yang teridentifikasi meliputi ketidakpahaman terhadap konsep rasio, kesulitan memilah informasi penting dalam soal, ketidaktahuan terhadap langkah penyelesaian, kurangnya ketelitian, serta tidak membiasakan diri memeriksa kembali jawaban. Tingginya proporsi kesalahan konseptual dan prosedural menegaskan perlunya strategi pembelajaran yang tidak hanya fokus pada latihan hitung tetapi juga memperkuat pemahaman mendasar siswa terhadap konsep rasio.

Abstract

Statistics is the science that deals with the collection, processing, analysis, and presentation of data. In fifth grade elementary school, students learn that statistics can be used to understand information from the data they collect. This study aims to analyze the influence of the PACE (Project, Activities, Cooperative, Exercises) learning model and self-esteem on students' statistical literacy Ability. The sample of the research are fifth-grade students at Karya Baru state Elementary School in Baubau City. The method used is a Quasi-Experimental Design with a 2x3 factorial design. Data collection techniques include tests of statistical literacy Ability and self-esteem questionnaires. Data analysis is conducted using normality tests, homogeneity tests, and two-way ANOVA tests.The results of the study indicate a significant effect of the PACE learning model on students' statistical literacy abilities. No significant effect of self-esteem on statistical literacy Ability was found. Additionally, the analysis shows that there is no interaction between the PACE learning model and self-esteem in influencing students' statistical literacy Ability. This emphasizes the importance of implementing appropriate learning models to enhance statistical literacy using the PACE learning model.
