Abstract

This study explores how a teacher focuses students' mathematical reasoning to advance instruction through the implementation of five mathematically productive teaching streams: guidance to student reasoning and proof, student mathematical discussion, working with selected student mathematical arguments, working with worksheets on the proof process. The findings suggest that discovery teaching, especially guidance to students reasoning and proof resulted in the implementation of teaching discovery in student-centered learning. This teaching highlights whose mathematics is centered in the classroom and whether the focus is on correct answers and procedures or on students' mathematical thinking and justification.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kemampuan representasi verbal siswa SMA dalam mengerjakan soal Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM) khususnya pada literasi matematis (numerasi). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Instrumen penelitian meliputi tes kemampuan representasi verbal yang berbentuk soal pilihan ganda kompleks untuk menentukan nilai kebenaran dari sebuah pernyataan dengan tiga indikator dan wawancara terbimbing. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 6 orang subjek kelas 10 pada salah satu SMA Negeri di Bandung. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan representasi matematis verbal tergolong baik. Sebanyak 4 subjek berkategori baik dan 2 subjek berkategori cukup baik. Nilai terendah yang diperoleh adalah 15 dan yang tertinggi adalah 31. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara diperoleh bahwa subjek kurang cermat dalam melakukan perhitungan dan membaca pertanyaan dengan teliti serta memiliki pemahaman yang kurang baik terhadap konsep materi, sehingga mengalami kesulitan dalam mengatasi masalah representasi matematis verbal pada soal numerasi Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM).

Abstract

Taking into account auditory, visual, and kinesthetic learning modalities, this research animed to evaluate students mathematical communication abilities on the subject of Two Variable Linear Equation Systems. This qualitative study surveyed six junior high school students from the city of Sukabumi. The tools used for this study were a written exam to evaluate mathematical communication abilities and a learning style questionnaire. Mathematical communication skills are the basis of the learning style questionnaire. These skills include the ability to draw connections between mathematical ideas and real word objects, images, and diagrams to explain mathematical concepts, situations, and relationships in writing and to express events or ideas using mathematical symbols or language. Communication abilities are excellent among students with low visual learning styles, as are those with high visual learning styles, according to the study’s findings. The communication abilities of pupils whose learning style is mostly auditory are good, while those whose learning style is predominantly visual are poor. The same holds true for students communication abilities, those who learn best via movement tend to have excellent ones, while those who learn best by sitting still tend to struggle. Knowing one’s own learning style is crucial for pupils to enhance their mathematics communication abilities

Abstract

Menteri Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan, Nadiem Anwar Makarim, telah merespons keluhan masyarakat terhadap sistem pendidikan nasional dengan menerbitkan kebijakan Pendidikan Merdeka Belajar. Kebijakan ini mencakup penghapusan USBN, penggantian UN dengan AKM dan survei karakter, pengurangan komponen dalam RPP, dan orientasi proporsional pada PPDB. AKM digunakan sebagai pedoman kualitas pendidikan Indonesia dan diharapkan dapat membantu peserta didik mengembangkan kemampuan dasar mereka. Salah satu aspek penting yang diukur dalam AKM adalah literasi numerasi matematis, di mana kesalahan siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika perlu diteliti lebih lanjut. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesulitan siswa SMA dalam menyelesaikan soal AKM materi barisan aritmatika. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu metode eksplorasi pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa tes tulis dan wawancara dengan instrumen tes sebanyak dua soal. Subjek dari penelitian ini dari kelas X di salah satu SMA Kota Bandung sebanyak tiga orang diambil secara purposive sampling. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan cara dengan memberikan soal tes, kemudian subjek yang telah terpilih diwawancara untuk mengetahui deskripsi dari hasil jawaban yang telah mereka lakukan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kemampuan literasi matematis siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal model AKM pada materi barisan aritmatika masih rendah, dengan siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam merumuskan, menerapkan, dan menafsirkan soal matematika. Diperlukan bimbingan dan arahan dari pendidik serta kesadaran dari peserta didik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan literasi numerasi. Kata kunci: Asesmen kompetensi minimum, Literasi numerasi

Abstract

Pentingnya kepekaan bilangan dalam pembelajaran matematika tidak dapat diabaikan. kepekaan bilangan merujuk pada pemahaman mendalam dan fleksibel tentang bilangan, hubungan antar bilangan, serta operasi matematika. Siswa dengan kepekaan bilangan yang baik cenderung lebih fleksibel dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematika tanpa harus terpaku pada suatu metode tertentu. Namun, saat ini kemampuan kepekaan bilangan siswa cenderung masih rendah. Untuk mengatasinya diperlukan kegiatan analisis pemilihan model pembelajaran yang tepat guna mengembangkan kepekaan bilangan. Dengan demikian artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas penggunaan model pembelajaran kooperatif guna meningkatkan kemampuan kepekaan bilangan siswa. Artikel ini merupakan rangkuman dari temuan hasil analisis sebanyak dua belas jurnal. Berdasarkan kajian dari penelitian-penelitian sebelumnya, didapat bahwa hasil belajar siswa dalam materi-materi yang berhubungan dengan bilangan dapat dikembangkan dengan pembelajaran kooperatif. Ini berarti, pembelajaran kooperatif efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kepekaan bilangan siswa.

Abstract

According to the 2022 PISA study, the mathematical literacy abilities of Indonesian students remain notably low, with fewer than 1% achieving proficiency levels between 4 and 6. This research employs qualitative methodologies to explore students' mathematical literacy in addressing high-level PISA problems, specifically examining gender-based differences within the context of number pattern topics. The study involved 34 grade VIII students from a public junior high school in Bandung, comprising 16 male and 18 female participants. Data were gathered through the administration of mathematical literacy tests and supplemented by in-depth interviews conducted with teachers and students. The results indicate that students' mathematical literacy is generally weak, largely attributed to their lack of familiarity with solving complex problems and difficulties in progressing beyond identifying initial patterns. Furthermore, the analysis revealed that female students outperformed their male counterparts in tackling high-level PISA problems. To enhance students' mathematical literacy, the study advocates for integrating high-level problems into the learning process. Such integration is anticipated to foster improvements in mathematical literacy, alongside the necessity for schools to implement an operational curriculum prioritising the reinforcement of foundational materials essential for developing this competency.

Abstract

Algebraic thinking ability are important for students to master and use algebraic concepts in various situations. Students with good algebraic thinking ability will find it easier to solve real-world problems and understand more abstract mathematical concepts. This study aims to describe students' algebraic thinking ability on linear equation material. Thus, the type of research used is phenomenology with a qualitative descriptive approach. The participants in this study consisted of 37 students; six students with heterogeneous abilities (high, medium, low) were then selected. The research subjects were determined by purposive sampling based on the pattern of answers representing the phenomenon that occurred. Data were collected using algebraic thinking ability tests and interviews to fulfill the validity of the data. The results showed that: 1) students with high algebraic thinking ability can use all indicators of algebraic thinking well. 2) students with medium algebraic thinking ability have difficulty in the indicators of analytical thinking, modeling, and dynamic thinking. 3) students with low algebraic thinking ability have difficulty in all indicators of algebraic thinking, namely generalization, modeling, abstraction, analytical thinking, dynamic thinking, and organization. So, teacher efforts are needed to provide students with an understanding of algebraic thinking so that students can solve math problems well.

Abstract

Understanding a concept is not only for mastering the next concept. It is the foundational skill used to solve mathematical problems. This study aims to explore students' conceptual understanding.This research is qualitative research with phenomenology. The participants in this study consisted of 18 eighth-grade students from one of Bandung's private secondary schools. After the students were given the test, six students were selected as research subjects. This aims to ensure that data can be obtained thoroughly and comprehensively. Data collection techniques included tests, interviews, and observations, with research instruments comprising a test and an interview guideline. Data saturation has been achieved. The results of this study are as follows: 1) students with relational understanding are fewer in number than students with instrumental understanding. 2) students find it most difficult to use the interconnections of various mathematical concepts in solving problems. 3) students' difficulties are due to their lack of ability in the concept of basic operations and their lack of understanding of the problems. Therefore, teachers need to strengthen students' understanding of basic operations and the concepts of mean, mode, and median to effectively connect these concepts with their problems.

Abstract

Representational transformation skills significantly influence students' success in problem-solving. Students who struggle with representational transformation skills are often less adept at utilizing mathematical ideas and relationships, and vice versa. Therefore, this study used a qualitative, descriptive-interpretive approach to examine students' semiotic representation skills when solving mathematical problems. The research was conducted in a Year 9 classroom in a public school in Bandung, Indonesia, with 30 participants divided into high, middle, and low-ability groups based on their level of mathematical ability. Data was collected using both test and interview techniques. The results indicated that students in the high and middle ability groups had adequate skills in algebraic treatment and conversion from algebra to geometry and verbal expression skills for constructing algebraic expressions and converting verbal statements into mathematical equations. In contrast, the low-ability group demonstrated a lack of semiotic representation skills in problem-solving. These findings highlight the importance of transformation and conversion skills in mathematical problem-solving activities and can be valuable information for teachers and observers of mathematics education.

Abstract

To develop media such as e-modules, a comprehensive understanding of the applications used to create them is necessary. It is essential to comprehend the features of using e-module applications to ensure their effectiveness in the development of superior e-modules in the future. The objectives of the present study were showing that mobile learning by e-module using different applications, i.e. Kodular and Flipbook, are valid, practical, effective and finding differences between the characteristics of e-module development to get a comprehensive idea for future development for researchers who want to develop e-module using both applications. The present study is a research and development study. The selected development model was ADDIE i.e. Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation. The Subject e-module learning media users were junior high school students. The validity of e-module media by Kodular is 92.55%, which is very good. The validity of e-module media by Flipbook is 90.35%, which is very good. The test result on the respondents who used e-module by Kodular is 83.45% feasible to use and the result of e-module by Flipbook is 86.39% also feasible to use. The Kodular e-module had an average student learning outcome score of 78.28, while the Flipbook e-module had an average score of 70.67. The two e-modules from the application were examined, and five differences were identified in the characteristics of e-modules from Kodular and Flipbook, in order to support the continuous development of e-modules.
