Abstract

Early marriage remains a pressing social issue in Indonesia, particularly in Lombok, where the Sasak community practices merariq (elopement). While deeply rooted in local culture, merariq often intersects with underage marriage, raising concerns about child protection, education, and health. Islam plays a pivotal role in addressing this challenge, not only as a source of religious doctrine but also as a moral and ethical framework guiding family life and social responsibility. This study explores how Islamic values interact with Sasak traditions, functioning both as a preservative force and as an agent of transformation. The research employs a qualitative ethnographic approach, combining fieldwork in Banyu Urip Village, Central Lombok, with policy brief analysis. Data were collected through participant observation, interviews with community leaders, religious figures, parents, and youth, as well as document review. Findings reveal that while merariq embodies symbolic meanings of freedom, honor, and cultural identity, its contemporary practice often perpetuates early marriage due to economic hardship, social pressure, and limited educational access. At the same time, Islamic teachings emphasize maturity, responsibility, and protection of children’s rights, creating tension between tradition, religion, and state law. This study concludes that Islam provides a normative foundation to reinterpret merariq in ways that discourage underage marriage, offering pathways for cultural integration that respect local wisdom while safeguarding children. The results contribute to broader discussions on how religion can mediate tradition and modern legal frameworks, informing culturally sensitive policies for child protection in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study analyzes the fundamental issues in the implementation of performance-based budgeting policy at the State Islamic University (UIN) Imam Bonjol Padang. Although the policy aims to increase efficiency, its application creates a misalignment between uniform government performance indicators and UIN’s unique mission as a religious educational institution. The research identifies the main root causes: (1) a lack of institutional policy to align performance indicators, (2) a one-size-fits-all policy approach, and (3) demands for bureaucratic and administrative efficiency. This paper uses a qualitative method with a descriptive analysis approach, USG analysis, and William N. Dunn's theory. The findings show that a regulative alternative is the most effective solution to address the root problems directly and quickly. As a recommendation, this article advises the Rector to issue new guidelines for implementing performance-based budgeting at UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, prioritizing the development of diverse and contextual performance indicators as a first step. This strategy directly addresses the core issue in performance-based budgeting: the misalignment of uniform indicators with the unique characteristics of each faculty and work unit.

Abstract

Introduction. Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality in Indonesia, with obesity recognized as a major risk factor. Excess body weight not only contributes to obesity but also alters lipid metabolism, thereby accelerating atherosclerosis. Interestingly, not all individuals with metabolic risk exhibit excess weight. This condition, termed normal weight obesity (NWO), describes individuals with a normal BMI (18.5-24.9 kg/m2) but an elevated body fat percentage (men >25%, women >30%). One of the important predictors of cardiovascular risk is the Castelli-II Index, defined as the LDL/HDL ratio, which reflects the balance between atherogenic and protective lipoproteins. This study aimed to evaluate the Castelli-II Index as a predictor of cardiovascular disease in individuals with NWO and obesity among medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Pattimura. Methods. An analytic observational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. A total of 52 respondents were recruited, comprising 26 individuals with NWO and 26 with obesity. BMI and body fat composition were assessed using a bioelectrical impedance analyzer (BIA), while LDL and HDL levels were determined through direct enzymatic testing. Results. Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test demonstrated no statistically significant difference in the Castelli-II Index between the NWO and obesity groups (p = 0.235). Conclusion. In conclusion, despite differences in body composition, the Castelli-II Index did not significantly differ between students with NWO and those with obesity. Further studies with larger and more diverse samples are recommended to validate the role of the Castelli-II Index in predicting cardiovascular risk among young adults.

Abstract

Dug well water is still widely used by the community as a source of clean water, but the quality often does not meet turbidity requirements. High turbidity levels can reduce water quality and increase health risks, so effective, safe, and environmentally friendly water treatment efforts are needed by utilizing natural coagulants. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the combination of moringa seeds and leaves (Moringa oleifera) as a natural coagulant in reducing the turbidity level of dug well water. The type of experimental research with a pre-test-post test research design uses a combination dose of moringa seeds and leaves, namely 10 mg, 20 mg and 30 mg. The water sampling technique is Purposive sampling. Data analysis used the One-Way Anova test and the LSD (Least Significant Difference) follow-up test. The results of the study showed that the turbidity value of dug well water in pre-test conditions was 15.5 NTU. The reduction in cloudiness after treatment with a dose of 10 mg had an average of 3.77 NTU (75.67%), the 20 mg dose of 2.53 NTU (83.67%), and the 30 mg dose of 3.17 NTU (79.54%). The Anova One-Way test showed a significant difference in effectiveness between doses of coagulants (p-value = 0.038 < 0.05). Follow-up LSD tests showed a significant difference between the 10 mg and 20 mg doses (p-value = 0.014 < 0.05), but there was no significant difference between the 10 mg and 30 mg doses (p-value = 0.146 > 0.05), as well as between the 20 mg and 30 mg doses (p-value = 0.128 > 0.05). It is recommended for subsequent researchers to test variations in stirring speed as well as other water quality parameters.

Abstract

Background: Capecitabine serves as a standard chemotherapeutic agent for colorectal cancer, but its clinical efficacy is frequently hindered by severe gastrointestinal toxicity and incomplete suppression of the inflammatory tumor microenvironment. We evaluated the synergistic potential of Lactococcus lactis D4, a probiotic strain isolated from traditional fermented buffalo milk, as an immunonutritional adjuvant to Capecitabine in a 1,2-dimethylhydrazine-induced colorectal cancer rat model. Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were maintained on a standardized AIN-93G diet and induced with 1,2-dimethylhydrazine. Animals were randomized into Negative Control, Cancer Control, L. lactis D4 monotherapy, Capecitabine monotherapy, and Combination therapy. Treatments were administered for 14 days. We assessed cachexia, macroscopic microadenoma multiplicity, and TNF-α expression utilizing immunohistochemistry. Synergy was mathematically validated using the Coefficient of Drug Interaction. Results: The Combination group significantly prevented chemotherapy-induced cachexia, demonstrating a 2.1% weight gain compared to a 4.5% weight loss in the Capecitabine monotherapy group (p < 0.05). Macroscopic microadenomas were rapidly reduced in the combination group. Furthermore, the combination therapy synergistically suppressed colonic TNF-α protein expression (Coefficient of Drug Interaction = 0.83). Additionally, L. lactis D4 entirely mitigated capecitabine-induced mucositis. Conclusion: L. lactis D4 functions as a highly potent adjuvant to Capecitabine. It prevents cachexia, protects mucosal architecture, and exerts a mathematically proven synergistic suppression of the TNF-α inflammatory axis.
