Abstract

Analysis of Human Resource Management (HRM) in Education by School Principals in Infrastructure-Limited Areas: A Literature Review  Indonesia’s education system is currently confronted with the dual demands of digital adaptation and persistent infrastructural disparities, making the role of school principals in remote, frontier, and outermost regions (3T) exceptionally critical. This literature review aims to analyze the practices, challenges, and human resource management (HRM) strategies employed by school principals in these infrastructure-limited areas. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with a thematic analysis approach, the study examines 24 selected articles from an initial pool of 62 publications published between 2020 and 2025. The selection process was based on relevance to HRM and educational leadership in remote regions. The findings indicate that school principals in 3T areas face a “double burden”: managing shortages in basic infrastructure that affect teacher retention and motivation, while simultaneously meeting national digital competency requirements. Rigid HRM models are shown to be ineffective for the contextual realities of 3T regions. Effective strategies emphasize adaptive and collaborative leadership, as well as strengthening teacher collaboration as a form of continuous professional development. The review concludes that participatory and innovative leadership are key factors in successful HRM within infrastructurally constrained environments. The study’s implications highlight the need for more contextualized principal training policies that go beyond administrative orientation.

Abstract

Online learning has become an alternative learning system during the COVID-19 pandemic, but in reality, online learning raises many problems in its implementation. Online learning is not only viewed negatively by some people, but also shows a wide digital divide in society, especially the economically disadvantaged, which ultimately results in educational inequality. Poor students and those who live in rural areas find it difficult to access online learning due to the absence of ICT facilities and difficulty getting internet signals. Education in Indonesia, which has embraced the neoliberal paradigm of competition since the beginning, eventually results in unfair competition in online learning due to the digital divide. This research aims to find out the extent of the digital divide and the education model in online learning implemented at the State Vocational High School (SMK) 1 Beringin, which then results in inequality in competition between students. This study also wants to see the resolution of economic disparities, and evaluate the competition system in education that is always discriminatory and only benefits some people, then rethinking a more humane education model.

Abstract

Vocational education in Indonesia, especially in Vocational High Schools (SMK), often struggles to equip students with skills that align with industry demands. This study investigates the effectiveness and perceived usability of differentiated instruction under the Merdeka Curriculum in enhancing learning outcomes in the Electrical Engineering program at SMKN 2 Payakumbuh. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was used, involving two groups: an experimental group receiving differentiated instruction and a control group receiving traditional teaching. Data collection included pre-tests, post-tests, and student questionnaires. The instructional design for the experimental group was tailored to students’ learning styles, readiness, and interests. Students in the experimental group demonstrated significantly higher post-test scores compared to the control group. The N-gain score for the experimental group reached 0.67 (moderate improvement), outperforming the control group (0.57). Additionally, students rated the practicality of the differentiated instruction highly, with a perceived usability score of 83.23%. The findings suggest that differentiated instruction effectively enhances academic performance and student engagement in vocational education. The positive student response indicates that such tailored approaches are both acceptable and practical in real classroom settings. Differentiated instruction under the Merdeka Curriculum shows promise as an effective model for vocational education. Broader implementation across other SMK programs is recommended to validate its scalability and impact.

Abstract

This meta-analysis investigates the overall impact of Quizizz-based gamification on students’ academic achievement across diverse educational contexts, from elementary to higher education. A systematic search of academic databases (Google Scholar, ERIC, Scopus, and institutional repositories) identified 1,340 studies, of which 28 met inclusion criteria. Effect sizes and standard errors from 25 quantitative studies were synthesized using JASP software under a fixed-effects model. The results reveal a large and statistically significant overall effect (Cohen’s d = 0.86, p .001), indicating that Quizizz substantially improves academic performance. Heterogeneity was moderate (I² = 48.6%), and funnel plot analysis with Egger’s test indicated minimal publication bias. Subgroup analysis showed consistent effectiveness of Quizizz across subject areas (e.g., mathematics, science, language learning) and instructional settings (face-to-face, blended, and online learning). These findings suggest that Quizizz is a versatile and pedagogically valuable tool for enhancing student engagement, motivation, and achievement. The study supports the broader adoption of gamified digital tools in modern classrooms and recommends further research to explore long-term effects and contextual moderators.

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into adaptive learning systems has gained traction in vocational education due to its potential to personalize instruction and enhance competency-based learning. However, research on this intersection remains fragmented, particularly in the context of vocational education and training (TVET). This study conducts a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA protocol, combined with bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer, to map research trends on AI-assisted adaptive learning in vocational education from 2018 to 2023. Data were sourced from Scopus, Semantic Scholar, and Google Scholar, resulting in 41 eligible articles. The findings reveal a sharp increase in publications after 2020, reflecting growing interest in AI-driven innovations, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bibliometric mapping identified three dominant thematic clusters: AI-enabled personalization, competency-based vocational education, and pedagogical innovation. Geographically, most research originates from technologically advanced countries such as the United States, India, and the United Kingdom. The study highlights the strategic role of AI-assisted adaptive learning in supporting individualized pathways and skills alignment in vocational education. It also identifies gaps in longitudinal evaluation, pedagogical integration, and research representation from developing regions. These insights provide practical implications for policymakers, educators, and curriculum developers aiming to modernize vocational training systems through AI.
