Abstract

Huruf-huruf aljabar biasanya hanya dikenal sebagai variabel oleh siswa, padahal huruf-huruf aljabar ini memiliki ragam makna pada suatu permasalahan matematis. Pada penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki interpretasi siswa terhadap makna dari huruf-huruf aljabar dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematis dengan perspektif siswa dalam masa transisi berpikir aritmetik ke berpikir aljabar. Penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian pada penelitian fenomenologi. Partisipan penelitian ini merupakan 18 siswa SMP yang diambil dari tiga sekolah yang terdapat di Riau. Teknik pengumpul data pada penelitian ini adalah dokumen lembar kerja siswa, wawancara yang direkam secara audio dan video dan catatan lapangan penelitian. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian pada siswa kelas VII tersebut, ditemukan bahwa siswa menginterpretasikan huruf-huruf aljabar hanya sebagai pengganti dari bilangan tertentu. Siswa menjadikan huruf-huruf aljabar sebatas pengganti bilangan asli dibandingkan sebagai bilangan yang diperumum. Huruf-huruf aljabar yang dikaitkan dengan ekspresi aljabar dan operasi aljabar serta persamaan aljabar memberikan kesulitan bagi siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah tersebut. Hal ini disebabkan siswa belum mampu melihat bahwa huruf-huruf aljabar tersebut merupakan serangkaian konsep dasar aljabar generalized numbers bahkan pada konsep variabel. Algebraic letters are usually only known as variables by students, even though these algebraic letters have a variety of meanings in a mathematical problem. This study aims to investigate students' interpretation of the meaning of algebraic letters in solving mathematical problems from the perspective of students in the transition period from arithmetic to algebraic thinking. The type of research used in qualitative research is phenomenological research. The participants of this study were 18 junior high school students taken from three schools in Riau. Data collection techniques in this study were student worksheet documents, audio- and video-recorded interviews, and research field notes. Based on the research findings on the seventh-grade students, it was found that students interpret algebraic letters only as a substitute for certain numbers. Students make algebraic letters as a substitute for natural numbers rather than as generalized numbers. Algebraic letters associated with algebraic expressions, algebraic operations, and algebraic equations deliver difficulties for students in solving these problems. This is because students have not been able to see that these algebraic letters are a series of basic concepts of generalized numbers in algebra, even on the concept of variables.

Abstract

Perolehan kemahiran matematika melibatkan kompetensi numerik dan penerapan konsep matematika untuk mengatasi tantangan dunia nyata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan literasi matematis siswa SMP dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan kontekstual, mengelompokkannya berdasarkan tingkat Adversity Quotient (AQ) yaitu climbingers, campers, dan quitters. Dengan menggunakan desain penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif, penelitian ini difokuskan pada siswa Kelas VIII SMP N 32 Bandung. Pemilihan subjek penelitian bergantung pada tipe AQ ​​mereka. Pengumpulan data menggunakan lembar Adversity Response Profile (ARP), yang dilengkapi dengan pertanyaan esai dan wawancara. Analisisnya meliputi reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Temuan ini mengungkapkan ciri-ciri khusus di antara kategori-kategori AQ: (1) Siswa tipe pendaki menunjukkan kemahiran dalam perumusan masalah, perancangan dan implementasi strategis, serta interpretasi, penerapan, dan evaluasi hasil perhitungan, disertai dengan penguatan atas jawaban mereka; (2) Siswa tipe camper menunjukkan kemahiran dalam merumuskan masalah, merancang dan menerapkan strategi solusi, namun gagal dalam menyajikan interpretasi alternatif; dan (3) Siswa tipe quitter kesulitan dalam mengidentifikasi dan merumuskan strategi pemecahan masalah, menunjukkan kurang presisi dalam perhitungan, sehingga menghasilkan hasil yang salah. The acquisition of mathematical proficiency involves numerical competence and the application of mathematical concepts to address real-world challenges. This study aims to elucidate the mathematical literacy of junior high school students in resolving contextual problems, categorizing them according to their Adversity Quotient (AQ) levels, namely climbers, campers, and quitters. Employing a descriptive research design with a qualitative approach, the investigation focuses on Class VIII students at SMP N 32 Bandung. The selection of research subjects is contingent upon their AQ types. Data collection utilizes an Adversity Response Profile (ARP) sheet, incorporating essay questions and interviews. The analysis involves data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The findings reveal distinctive attributes among the AQ categories: (1) Climber-type students demonstrate adeptness in problem formulation, strategic design and implementation, as well as the interpretation, application, and evaluation of calculation outcomes, accompanied by reinforcement for their answers; (2) Camper-type students exhibit proficiency in formulating problems, designing and applying solution strategies, yet fall short in presenting alternative interpretations; and (3) Quitter-type students struggle in identifying and formulating problem-solving strategies, displaying less precision in calculations, resulting in incorrect outcomes.

Abstract

Salah satu tantangan yang dihadapi mahasiswa adalah terbatasnya akses ke fasilitas laboratorium komputer, yang menghambat pembelajaran matematika, khususnya dalam metode numerik. Kelemahan ini sebagai penghambat kemampuan berpikir matematis yang krusial untuk keberhasilan memahami algoritma dan membangun program solusi numerik, sehingga pengembangan keterampilan ini perlu diprioritaskan. Pembelajaran direct instruction dianggap kurang efektif, sehingga perlu ditingkatkan dengan penggunaan media interaktif digital, berupa pembelajaran berbantuan komputer, dikenal dengan direct instruction-computer assisted (DI-CA). Penelitian menerapkan langkah research and development (RnD), bertujuan untuk menciptakan dan memvalidasi media instruksional digital guna meningkatkan penalaran matematis mahasiswa. Subjek penelitian pada mahasiswa calon guru matematika, data diperoleh dari validasi ahli, pengalaman pengguna, dan tes kemampuan penalaran matematis melalui pretes dan postes. Web ajar sebagai media dalam pembelajaran DI-CA divalidasi dari aspek yang berfokus pada kejelasan instruksi, kesesuaian materi, dan pengalaman pengguna, yang semuanya dinyatakan valid. Uji coba dengan 33 mahasiswa diperoleh rata-rata hasil tes kemampuan penalaran 61.21, dengan interval antara 56.59 - 65.84, mengindikasikan peningkatan keterampilan penalaran. Penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya integrasi teknologi komputer dalam pembelajaran, yang dapat meningkatkan pengalaman belajar dan kinerja akademis mahasiswa dalam matematika. One of the challenges faced by students is the limited access to computer laboratory facilities, which hampers mathematics learning, particularly in numerical methods. This limitation impedes the development of critical mathematical thinking skills essential for understanding algorithms and constructing numerical solution programs, highlighting the need to prioritize the development of these skills. Direct instruction is less effective, necessitating an enhancement through the use of interactive digital media, specifically computer-assisted instruction, known as Direct Instruction-Computer Assisted (DI-CA). This research employs a research and development (RnD) approach to create and validate digital instructional media to improve students' mathematical reasoning. The research subjects are mathematics education students, and data are obtained from expert validation, user experience, and mathematical reasoning ability tests through pre-tests and post-tests. The web-based instructional media used in DI-CA was validated based on clarity of instructions, content appropriateness, and user experience, all of which were confirmed to be valid. The trial involving 33 students yielded an average mathematical reasoning test score of 61.21, ranging between 56.59 and 65.84, indicating an improvement in reasoning skills. This study underscores the importance of integrating computer technology into instruction, which can enhance learning experiences and academic performance in mathematics.

Abstract

Perkembangan teknologi yang sangat cepat memaksa seseorang untuk memiliki kemampuan computational thinking agar dapat menyelesaikan berbagai permasalahan secara komputasi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana implementasi pembelajaran STEM terintegrasi computational thinking dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode pra eksperimen dengan one group pretest-posttest design. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari 21 siswa kelas VIIA SMP Bumi Cendekia Yogyakarta. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes tulis dan lembar observasi. Data penelitian dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji Wilcoxon dan N-Gain. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa persentase keterlaksanaan pembelajaran STEM terintegrasi computational thinking mencapai 88% atau dalam kategori baik. Sementara hasil uji Wilcoxon rata-rata kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa diperoleh nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000, dengan rata-rata skor N-Gain kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa sebesar 0,54. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa implementasi pembelajaran STEM terintegrasi computational thinking berpengaruh terhadap kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa. The rapid development of technology forces a person to have computational thinking skills in order to solve various problems computationally. The purpose of this research is to describe how the implementation of STEM learning integrated with computational thinking in improving students' problem-solving skills. The research method used in this research is pre-experimental method with one group pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 21 students of class VIIA Bumi Cendekia Junior High School, Yogyakarta. The research instruments were written tests and observation sheets. The research data were analyzed using Wilcoxon and N-Gain tests. The results of this study showed that the percentage of STEM learning implementation integrated with computational thinking reached 88% or in the good category. While the results of the Wilcoxon test on the average student problem solving ability obtained a significance value of 0.000, with the average N-Gain score of students' problem-solving ability was 0.54. Thus, it can be concluded that the implementation of STEM learning integrated with computational thinking affects students' problem-solving skills.

Abstract

Pembelajaran Berbasis Proyek (PjBL) telah menjadi salah satu pendekatan pembelajaran paling populer dalam pendidikan matematika selama satu dekade terakhir. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis tren penelitian PjBL dalam pendidikan matematika tingkat sekolah menengah melalui pendekatan Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA). Artikel dikumpulkan dari database Scopus dan diseleksi berdasarkan kriteria inklusi yang ketat sehingga menghasilkan 15 artikel relevan. Analisis menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan pada tren penelitian PjBL dengan penerapan yang beragam dan efektif, terutama dalam mendukung keterampilan abad 21 seperti berpikir kritis, kolaborasi, dan pemanfaatan teknologi. Namun, terdapat kesenjangan dalam integrasi teknologi yang optimal serta konteks yang lebih inklusif dalam aplikasi PjBL. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi penting dengan memetakan tren dan mengidentifikasi peluang penelitian di masa depan untuk meningkatkan efektivitas PjBL dalam pendidikan matematika.Project-Based Learning (PjBL) has become one of the most popular learning approaches in mathematics education over the past decade. This tudy aims to analyse the research trend of PjBL in mathematics education at secondary school level through Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA) approach. Articles were collected from Scopus database and selected based on strict inclusion criteria resulting in 15 relevant articles. The analysis showed a significant increase in the trend of PjBL research with diverse and effective applicaions, especially in supporting 21st century skills such as critical thinking, collaboration and technology utilization. However, there are gaps in optimal technology integration as well as more inclusive contexts in PjBL applications. This research makes an important contribution by mapping trends and identifying future research opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of PjBL in mathematics education.

Abstract

The introduction of Computational Thinking (CT) as a crucial skill in the 21st century has now been incorporated into the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia. The relatively new concept of CT in Indonesia has led to a lack of complete understanding, with many perceiving it solely as aligned with programming skills or equating it to thinking exactly like a computer. In reality, CT emphasizes an approach to problem-solving. The objective of this initiative is to impart CT-based learning design skills to prospective Mathematics teachers as an integral part of their pedagogical competence. The training is conducted through both synchronous and asynchronous methods. The outcomes encompass the development of CT-based educational media. Evaluation results demonstrate the success of the training in enhancing the capabilities of prospective teachers to apply CT in Mathematics education, particularly concerning topics such as series and fractions.

Abstract

Reasoning and proof is the ability to arrange patterns, make conjectures, test conjectures, and carry out logical proof, which can be seen as negative or positive for students when solving proof problems requiring reasoning skills. Prospective mathematics teachers in the Mathematics Education Study Program of FKIP Universitas Sriwijaya became the subject of this study. As the research instrument, the questionnaire was designed to explore students' opinions and responses to problems with significant logical difficulty. Sentiment analysis was used to analyze the opinions of prospective mathematics teachers on reasoning and proof questions by grouping positive and negative opinions. The technique used in this study uses the Naïve Bayes algorithm. The classification results in this study were 58.2% positive and 41.86.7% negative, with a total of 70 data. The final result achieved an accuracy value of 53.33%, signifying the reliability of the Naïve Bayes algorithm in understanding and classifying the complex spectrum of sentiments expressed by students. The implications of these findings go beyond sentiment analysis, providing valuable insights for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers in designing learning strategies and educational policies that can improve mathematics students' reasoning and proof abilities.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop an interactive e-module based on the RME approach, focusing on parallel lines and angles. The e-module was designed using a development studies approach with two main stages: preliminary and formative evaluation. These included self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one trials, small group trials, and field tests. Data were collected through validation sheets, student response questionnaires, pretests, and posttests. The e-module was deemed valid and practical, with average validation scores from experts and students of 4.4 and 4.89, respectively. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the e-module was measured using T-Test and N-Gain analysis, which showed a significant improvement of 38% in students' mathematical reasoning skills. The findings demonstrate that the RME-based interactive e-module is an effective teaching tool for enhancing mathematical reasoning skills, particularly on parallel lines and angles. This e-module provides an alternative solution for teachers to facilitate interactive, context-based, and independent learning, aligning with the demands of 21st-century education. Future research could explore integrating virtual laboratories or GeoGebra software into the e-module and applying it to other mathematical topics, such as angles in polygons.

Abstract

Abstract This study is aimed to analyze students’ conceptual understanding and their self-regulated learning in mathematics between students who are treated using the e-learning model web enhanced course and those who are taught with the power point and to find out the appropriate e-learning design in learning math for elementary school. This study was conducted through quasi-experiment with a pre test-post test control group design. The population of this study is all of the 5thgrade students of private Islamic Elementary School (MI) in Jakarta, while the sample is taken from two classes of the population. The instruments used in this study are the essay, questionnaire, and observation sheet. The results showed that 1) students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics using e-learning model web enhanced course is better than students who get the learning using power point, 2) students’ self-regulated learning treated using e-learning model web enhanced course is better than students’ who get the learning using power point, 3) e-learning design that fits in the learning of mathematics in primary schools is e-learning design, incorporating text, images, and animations as well as providing convenience for group discussion. Based on these results it can be concluded that the e-learning web-enhanced model affects the conceptual understanding of mathematics and self-regulated learning of elementary school students.   Abstrak Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa pemahaman konseptual siswa dan pembelajaran mandiri dalam matematika antara siswa yang diperlakukan menggunakan pembelajaran berbasis internet dan siswa yang diajarkan menggunakan power point dan untuk menemukan bentuk pembelajaran berbasis internet yang tepat dalam pembelajaran matematika untuk sekolah dasar. Studi ini diadakan melalui quasi-experiment dengan bentuk pre test dan post test. Populasi studi ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas 5 MI di Jakarta, sedangkan sampel diambil dari dua kelas dari keseluruhan populasi. Instrument yang digunakan dalam studi ini adalah essay, questionnaire, dan lembar observasi. Hasil dari studi ini menunjukkan bahwa 1) pemahaman konseptual siswa dalam matematika dengan menggunakan pembelajaran berbasis internet lebih baik dari pada siswa yang belajar menggunakan power point, 2) pembelajaran mandiri siswa yang menggunakan model pembelajaran berbasis internet lebih baik dari pada siswa yang belajar menggunakan power point, 3) bentuk pembelajaran berbasis internet yang cocok dalam belajar matematika untuk sekolah dasar adalah bentuk pembelajaran berbasis internet, memasukan teks, gambar, dan animasi senyaman mungkin untuk diskusi kelompok. Berdasarkan hasil di atas dapat disimpulkan bahwa model pembelajaran berbasis internet mempengaruhi pemahaman konseptual pelajaran matematika dan pembelajaran mandiri siswa sekolah dasar.   How to Cite : Arifin, F. Abstract

AbstractStudents need to possess the right life and career skills to face future challenges. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of mathematics teachers' life skills on high school students in Indonesia. Data were collected from 190 mathematics teachers and 627 high school students through questionnaires consisting of 15 and 45 statements, respectively. The data collected were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method and the Smart-PLS v.3.2.9 software. The results showed that both mathematics teachers (77.50%) and high school students (83%) had a good understanding of life and career skills. However, their life skills were rated low due to teachers' difficulty in translating life and career skills into planning and implementing mathematics learning. This means that the methods used by teachers do not explore students' potential. Furthermore, the correlation between indicators of student life skills was found to be in the medium and large categories, indicating a significant relationship between the indicators of student life skills.AbstrakPara Siswa perlu memiliki keterampilan hidup dan karier yang tepat untuk menghadapi tantangan masa depan. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan pengaruh keterampilan hidup guru matematika terhadap siswa SMA di Indonesia. Data dikumpulkan dari 190 guru matematika dan 627 siswa SMA melalui kuesioner yang terdiri dari 15 dan 45 pernyataan, masing-masing. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis menggunakan metode Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) dan perangkat lunak Smart-PLS v.3.2.9. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa baik guru matematika (77,50%) maupun siswa SMA (83%) memiliki pemahaman yang baik tentang keterampilan hidup dan karier. Namun, keterampilan hidup mereka dinilai rendah karena kesulitan guru dalam menerjemahkan keterampilan hidup dan karier ke dalam perencanaan dan pelaksanaan pembelajaran matematika. Ini berarti metode yang digunakan oleh guru tidak mengeksplorasi potensi siswa.
