Abstract

Huruf-huruf aljabar biasanya hanya dikenal sebagai variabel oleh siswa, padahal huruf-huruf aljabar ini memiliki ragam makna pada suatu permasalahan matematis. Pada penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki interpretasi siswa terhadap makna dari huruf-huruf aljabar dalam menyelesaikan masalah matematis dengan perspektif siswa dalam masa transisi berpikir aritmetik ke berpikir aljabar. Penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian pada penelitian fenomenologi. Partisipan penelitian ini merupakan 18 siswa SMP yang diambil dari tiga sekolah yang terdapat di Riau. Teknik pengumpul data pada penelitian ini adalah dokumen lembar kerja siswa, wawancara yang direkam secara audio dan video dan catatan lapangan penelitian. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian pada siswa kelas VII tersebut, ditemukan bahwa siswa menginterpretasikan huruf-huruf aljabar hanya sebagai pengganti dari bilangan tertentu. Siswa menjadikan huruf-huruf aljabar sebatas pengganti bilangan asli dibandingkan sebagai bilangan yang diperumum. Huruf-huruf aljabar yang dikaitkan dengan ekspresi aljabar dan operasi aljabar serta persamaan aljabar memberikan kesulitan bagi siswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah tersebut. Hal ini disebabkan siswa belum mampu melihat bahwa huruf-huruf aljabar tersebut merupakan serangkaian konsep dasar aljabar generalized numbers bahkan pada konsep variabel.Algebraic letters are usually only known as variables by students, even though these algebraic letters have a variety of meanings in a mathematical problem. This study aims to investigate students' interpretation of the meaning of algebraic letters in solving mathematical problems from the perspective of students in the transition period from arithmetic to algebraic thinking. The type of research used in qualitative research is phenomenological research. The participants of this study were 18 junior high school students taken from three schools in Riau. Data collection techniques in this study were student worksheet documents, audio- and video-recorded interviews, and research field notes. Based on the research findings on the seventh-grade students, it was found that students interpret algebraic letters only as a substitute for certain numbers. Students make algebraic letters as a substitute for natural numbers rather than as generalized numbers. Algebraic letters associated with algebraic expressions, algebraic operations, and algebraic equations deliver difficulties for students in solving these problems. This is because students have not been able to see that these algebraic letters are a series of basic concepts of generalized numbers in algebra, even on the concept of variables.

Abstract

Kemandirian belajar sangat diperlukan dalam penerapan kurikulum merdeka belajar sebagai modal dalam menghadapi era Society 5.0. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kemandirian belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika menggunakan kurikulum merdeka di salah satu SMP Pasundan di Kota Bandung. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah guru matematika dan 26 siswa kelas VII tahun ajaran 2022-2023. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Instrumen dalam penelitian ini berupa instrumen non tes yaitu angket kemandirian belajar siswa dengan skala likert. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, pengisian angket, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa kemandirian belajar matematika siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika masih rendah. Diperlukan metode atau strategi baru yang dapat meningkatkan kemandirian belajar siswa dalam pembelajaran matematika.Self-regulated learning is very necessary in implementing the independent learning curriculum as capital in facing the Society 5.0 era. This study aims to analyze self-regulated learning in mathematics using the independent curriculum at one of the Pasundan Middle Schools in the city of Bandung. The subjects in this study were a mathematics teacher and 26 class VII students for the 2022-2023 school year. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The instrument in this study was a non-test instrument, namely the student learning independence questionnaire with a Likert scale. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, filling out questionnaires, and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the independence of students' mathematics learning in learning mathematics is still low. New methods or strategies are needed that can increase student learning independence in learning mathematics.

Abstract

Students need to possess the right life and career skills to face future life challenges. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect of the life skills of mathematics teachers on high school students in Indonesia. Data were collected from 190 mathematics teachers and 627 high school students through questionnaires consisting of 15 and 45 statements for both parties. The data collected were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) method and the Smart-PLS v.3.2.9 software. The results showed that the understanding of mathematics teachers (77.50%) and high school students (83%) concerning life and career skills is in a good category. Meanwhile, their life skills are in a low category due to teachers’ difficulties in translating life and career skills in planning and implementing mathematics learning. This means that the mathematics learning methods developed by teachers do not explore students' potential. Moreover, teachers’ life skills did not significantly affect each student's indicator. Only two indicators had a medium effect, namely responsibility and flexibility on leadership as well asadaptability and flexibility on initiative and self-direction

Abstract

The use of new educational approaches and technologies can be beneficial in integrating 21st century skills and core competencies in education. STEM provides students with an effective learning environment to improve math skills and other 21st century skills. This research aims to explore and synthesize the best stem applications in math learning and its impact on 21st century mathematical competence. There are several studies related to the integration of STEM in mathematics learning to improve 21st century mathematical competence, which includes critical thinking and problem solving, creativity, communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively. The search for relevant data base was conducted in a study published from 2017 to 2021 that examined STEM and 21st century math competencies in formal education. The search strategy was carried out systematically by reviewing articles in the field of Education that had been published in the ERIC, Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases. Based on the results of systematic reviews of the literature generated that integrating STEM in mathematical learning must pay attention to the content of the lesson, the methods used in learning must be problem-based and project-based, and learning must be cooperative. In addition, STEM integration in math learning tends to improve 21st century mathematical competence especially in critical thinking and problem solving skills

Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that each student's different way of thinking in dealing with problems will produce different solutions. This different way of thinking is influenced by the schemata of knowledge that are formed in each other's minds. so that diversity can describe the way students think in the learning process, especially in solving problem solving problems. In this case, self-efficacy acts as an affective aspect that affects how students think, motivate themselves, and build confidence in students in the learning process. Therefore, this study aims to conduct a literature review related to the diversity of students' ways of thinking in solving mathematical problems in terms of self-efficacy. The research method chosen in this research is a systematic literature study. Data collection was obtained from the Google Schoolar database using the Publish or Perish application. The results of this study can contribute to further research for researchers who compile research on this issue.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis pemetaan bibliometrik penelitian literasi matematika pada database Scopus menggunakan VOSviewer. Data yang diperoleh terkait dengan kata kunci “mathematical literacy” atau “mathematics literacy”tanpa batas waktu dari tahun 2012 sampai dengan tahun 2022 dengan total 171 dokumen yang relevan dengan 52 item dan 1091 link yang terbagi dalam tiga cluster. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa jumlah publikasi terkait penelitian meningkat setiap tahun hingga tahun 2022. Dari tahun 2005 hingga 2010, peningkatan jumlah publikasi tidak berbeda nyata yang ditunjukkan dengan kurva datar. Kemudian, kurva meningkat tajam dari tahun 2012 ke tahun 2019, menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan dari 1 menjadi 26 artikel yang diterbitkan. Namun, dari tahun 2019 hingga 2022, jumlah artikel yang diterbitkan menurun drastis dari 26 artikel menjadi 13 artikel. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penelitian tentang literasi matematika masih berpotensi untuk meningkatkan publikasi pada tahun ini dan tahun-tahun berikutnya.

Abstract

Mathematics is still seen as a non-cultural subject. Mathematics and culture are two aspects that have a strong relationship. Culture provides a natural means for students to access a framework for conceptual understanding in mathematics. One of the important cultural objects in Indonesia is the Phinisi. The phinisi is a traditional wooden ship originating from Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi province which is recorded as a world cultural heritage. This study explores the concept of ethnomathematics geometry on phinisi ships. The method used in this research is an exploratory-descriptive method through an ethnographic approach to explain and analyze the ethnomathematical concepts of geometry on the components of the phinisi. Research data were collected through a literature review, direct observation of the shape and process of making phinisi, and interviews with expert phinisi shipbuilders. The results showed that there are geometric ethnomathematical concepts in the form of flat shapes and spatial shapes on several phinisi components. This ethnomathematical concept is relevant to the formal mathematical concepts learned in school so it has the potential to be a source of learning mathematics.

Abstract

Understanding that mathematics is a subject that is difficult to believe because mathematical concepts are abstract and, therefore, difficult to comprehend and understand. Students' abilities and skills in mathematics subjects in Indonesia are relatively low. However, this can only be generalized to some Indonesian students, considering that Indonesia is a large country with many students. This research aims to describe customs, traditions, and culture holistically, then apply them to mathematics learning activities through ethnomathematics studies for indigenous students with the hope that mathematics learning will become more meaningful when studying mathematics. According to Spradley, this research method is descriptive qualitative with an ethnographic approach and a gradual progressive research flow. The result of this research is that the ethnomathematics approach has succeeded in making mathematics, which was often abstract, become real. Indigenous students who study ethnomathematics-based mathematics feel that the mathematics lesson material becomes logically meaningful; students can also absorb the material into their cognitive structure. Indigenous students who learn ethnomathematics-based mathematics can learn mathematical material by interpreting each element of mathematics culture or combining the two into ethnomathematics.

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian ini mengkaji peningkatan kemampuan penalaran dan komunikasi matematis antara siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran dengan penerapan aktivitas quick on the draw dalam tatanan pembelajaran kooperatif (eksperimen) dengan siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran konvensional (kontrol) secara keseluruhan maupun perlevel sekolah serta sikap positif siswa terhadap matematika, model pembelajaran, dan soal penalaran dan komunikasi. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa SMP kelas VII di Pekanbaru pada tahun ajaran 2011/2012 dan dengan subjek penelitian adalah tiga SMP yang mewakili sekolah level tinggi, sedang, dan rendah dengan teknik pengambilan sampel stratified dan purposive sampling serta menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen desain pretest-posttest kelompok tanpa acak. Temuan penelitian adalah: (1) peningkatan kemampuan penalaran dan komunikasi matematis siswa kelas eksperimen lebih baik daripada kelas kontrol untuk sekolah level sedang dan kelas kontrol lebih baik daripada kelas eksperimen untuk sekolah level tinggi, rendah, serta secara keseluruhan; dan (2) Siswa memiliki sikap yang positif terhadap matematika, pembelajaran, dan soal-soal penalaran dan komunikasi matematis.Abstract: This research study improvement of mathematical reasoning and communication between students who received learning by the application of the activity of quick on the draw in order of learning cooperative (experiment) with students who gets learning conventional (control) as a whole and perlevel school and positive attitude towards mathematics, learning model, and matter of mathematical reasoning and communication. The population on this research is all the students of Junior High School grade VII in Pekanbaru during the academic year 2011/2012 and with the subject of study are three Junior High School representing a level of high, medium and low with stratified dan purposive sampling technique using quasi experimental with design pretest-posttest group without random. The findings research are: (1) increasing the ability of mathematical reasoning and communication students experiment classroom better than control classroom for medium level and a control classroom better than experiment classroom in low level, and as a whole; and (2) students have a positive attitude towards mathematics, learning model, and matter of mathematical reasoning and communication.

Abstract

Abstrak. Salah satu kemampuan matematis yang diharapkan dapat dimiliki dengan baik oleh siswa SMP adalah kemampuan pemahaman matematis. Oleh karena itu, sangat diharapkan siswa SMP dapat memiliki kemampuan pemahaman matematis yang baik, namun tidak begitu pada kenyataannya. Salah satu faktornya adalah kecemasan matematika. Hal inilah yang mendasari pelaksanaan penelitian ini. Oleh karena itu, pembahasan pada penelitian ini terkait dengan peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan penurunan kecemasan matematika siswa antara siswa yang mendapatkan pembelajaran kooperatif tipe the power of two dengan siswa yang mendapat pembelajaran konvensional. Selain itu, mengingat adanya keterkaitan antara kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan kecemasan matematika siswa, maka dikaji pula hubungan antara kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan kecemasan matematika siswa. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII di salah satu SMP Negeri di Rokan Hulu Riau. Tujuan penelitian adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe the power two terhadap peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan penurunan kecemasan matematika siswa SMP. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain kelompok kontrol non-ekuivalen. Teknik pengambilan sampel purposive sampling. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa pretes, postes, lembar observasi, wawancara dan angket skala kecemasan matematika siswa. Pengolahan data ini menggunakan bantuan SPSS 16 dan Ms. Excel. Hasil penelitian yang diperoleh adalah: (1) Peningkatan kemampuan pemahaman matematis siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran kooperatif tipe the power of two lebih baik daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran secara konvensional; (2) Kecemasan matematika siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran kooperatif tipe the power of two lebih rendah  daripada siswa yang memperoleh pembelajaran secara konvensional; (3) Terdapat hubungan negatif antara kemampuan pemahaman matematis dan kecemasan matematika siswa. Abstract. One of mathematical ability which is hoped can be possessed well by Junior High School students is mathematical understanding ability. Therefore, it is hoped that Junior High School students can posses good mathematical understanding ability, but in reality, it is not such a case. One of factor is mathematical anxiety.  This is which underlie the implementation of this study.  Therefore, the discussion in this study related with the enhancement of student’s mathematical understanding ability and student’s mathematical anxiety reduction between students who get cooperative learning, the power of two type and students who get conventional learning. In addition, because there is relatedness between student’s mathematical understanding ability and mathematical anxiety, the relation between student’s mathematical understanding ability and mathematical anxiety is studied also.  Subject in this study are students of class VII from one of Public Junior High School in Rokan Hulu Riau. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence of cooperative learning model, the power two type toward the enhancement of mathematical understanding ability and mathematical anxiety reduction of Junior High School students.The method which is used is quasi experiment with non equivalent control group design.The sampling technique is purposive sampling. Instruments used are pretest, posttest, observation sheet, interview and questionnaire of student’s mathematical anxiety reduction.  Data processing use the aid of SPSS 16 and Ms. Excel. Results of study which are obtained are: (1) The enhancement of mathematical understanding ability of students who get cooperative learning, the power of two type is better than students who get learning conventionally; (2) Mathematical anxiety of students who get cooperative learning, the power of two type is lower than students who get learning conventionally; (3) There is negative relation between student’s mathematical understanding ability and student’s mathematical anxiety.
