Abstract

This study investigates the mediating roles of reflective practice and teacher self-efficacy in the development of Teacher Professional Identity (TPI). Although participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is widespread, little is known about how these experiences contribute to meaningful identity transformation for teachers. Addressing this gap, the study proposes a mediation model in which reflective practice indirectly enhances TPI through the intermediary construct of self-efficacy. Utilizing a cross-sectional design with a sample of 420 in-service teachers, the research employed validated instruments to measure reflective practice, self-efficacy, and TPI. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and PROCESS macro (Model 6) were used to analyze the direct and indirect effects. Bootstrapped confidence intervals and model fit indices (CFI = 0.96, TLI = 0.94, RMSEA = 0.045) confirmed the robustness of the proposed model. Results revealed a significant direct effect of reflective practice on TPI (β = 0.21, p = 0.042), and a stronger indirect effect mediated by self-efficacy (β = 0.34, p < 0.001). The findings support the hypothesis that self-efficacy plays a central role in converting reflective experiences into professional identity development. This mediation framework contributes to the theoretical discourse on TPI and underscores the importance of incorporating reflective and efficacy-building components into CPD. The study offers key implications for CPD design, advocating for culturally responsive and psychologically enriching programs that prioritize structured reflection and empower teachers to engage deeply with their evolving roles. Such initiatives are likely to yield sustained improvements in instructional quality and teacher resilience.

Abstract

Objective: This study examines students' views on the use of Basic Reading Comprehension materials developed with the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and a multicultural-based approach. Novelty: The novelty of this study lies in the integration of PBL with a multicultural approach to improve students' reading comprehension, motivation, and learning engagement in a diverse educational environment. Methods: This study used a qualitative approach involving 300 Indonesian students. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and open-ended questionnaires, then analyzed thematically to produce the effectiveness of this approach. Results: Students felt more motivated and active in discussions when the material combined problem-solving tasks and culturally relevant content. PBL improved the ability to understand texts through critical thinking and collaboration, while the multicultural approach helped students integrate the material with their cultural background, thus encouraging inclusivity and awareness of diversity. Challenges found include the need for more assistance for students who are not familiar with PBL. Conclusion: The integration of PBL with multicultural-based materials can significantly improve reading learning by making it more interactive, inclusive, and meaningful. It is recommended to provide additional support for diverse learners and develop more culturally responsive teaching materials.

Abstract

Digital literacy is an essential skill for teachers in the era of educational digitalization. The Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang (UMS Rappang) aims to enhance teachers' competencies by integrating educational technology into the curriculum. This study examines the implementation of educational technology in the PPG program and its impact on improving teachers' digital literacy. The findings indicate that the use of tools such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), video conferencing platforms, educational software, and AR/VR technologies significantly enhances participants' ability to utilize digital tools in teaching. Furthermore, strategies such as intensive training, digital evaluation, and collaborations with technology industries contribute to achieving program goals. However, challenges such as infrastructure limitations, digital competency gaps, and resistance to change require targeted solutions. This study underscores the importance of continuous evaluation and innovation to optimize the integration of educational technology and promote teachers' digital literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the specific issues related to digital literacy and the components that impact digital literacy faced by first-semester students majoring in English Education. This research uses qualitative methods. Findings from this study show that Socially Responsible is a component that has a higher impact on digital literacy, and constructive is a lower component that has an impact on digital literacy. So, it shows that socially responsible students are already aware of digital literacy, but constructive students are still confused about creating and sharing good digital content. Some of the digital problems found by first-semester students of the English education department are problems such as unclear sounds when studying online and internet connection problems, which hinder their understanding of the material being taught. Although students are aware of the benefits of digital technology, they face significant difficulties in using the internet, as well as challenges in the transition period from high school to university that uses more technology and there is a need for greater support from educational institutions to improve their digital literacy.

Abstract

This study explores the effectiveness of social media as a tool for autonomous English learning. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered through interviews with five seventh-semester students from the Indonesian Language Education program at Muhammadiyah Sidenreng Rappang University. The research investigates whether social media facilitates self-directed English learning and contributes to skill enhancement. The findings reveal that students perceive social media as an effective platform for independent English learning when used strategically. Platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok provide diverse learning resources, including video-based lessons and interactive content, which support vocabulary development, pronunciation improvement, and overall language proficiency. However, challenges such as the lack of structured guidance, potential distractions, and difficulties in tracking progress were also noted. This study underscores the potential of social media as a supplementary tool for autonomous English learning, highlighting the need for strategic and disciplined use to maximize its benefits.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of developing a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model to enhance students' critical and creative skills in learning procedural texts at SMPN 7 Satap Maiwa. The goal was to create a dynamic, engaging, and effective learning environment using the PjBL model to improve students' skills, particularly in English learning. This research employed quantitative methods to provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness of the PjBL model in enhancing students' critical and creative thinking abilities in procedural text learning. The development of PjBL in education has seen significant progress, especially in secondary English language teaching. This study specifically aimed to assess the application of the PjBL model in teaching procedural texts, with a focus on creating posters using the Canva application by analyzing a tourist spot. The study involved 15 students in the experimental group and 15 students in the control group. The results showed a significant improvement in the students' scores from pre-test to post-test in the experimental group. The average pre-test score for the experimental group was 68.66, while the post-test mean score increased to 86.33. In comparison, the control group’s pre-test and post-test scores were 57.66 and 82.66, respectively. Statistical analysis revealed that the p-value was smaller than the α level (0.001 < 0.05), leading to the rejection of H0 and acceptance of H1, indicating that the use of PjBL in learning procedural texts had a positive impact. In conclusion, this study suggests that integrating the PjBL model can effectively enhance students' critical and creative skills, contributing to improved overall learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigates the models of English learning implemented for students with disabilities at SLB Negeri 1 Sidrap and evaluates how these models influence students' motivation to learn English. Employing a qualitative research design, data were gathered through observations, interviews, and document analysis. The results reveal that students show a strong preference for video-based and interactive learning activities. Teachers adopt diverse instructional strategies, including multisensory learning, game-based learning, and collaborative approaches, all tailored to meet students' individual needs. Despite these efforts, challenges persist, particularly in mastering tenses and maintaining focus during lessons. To overcome these obstacles, teachers offer personalized support, re-explain complex concepts, and assist slow writers by dictating materials. The findings highlight the crucial role of adaptive teaching strategies in enhancing the English learning experience for students with disabilities in special education settings.
