Abstract

Juvenile delinquency remains a significant issue among adolescents and may be influenced by both internal and external factors. Emotional intelligence is considered an important internal factor that helps idividuals manage emotions and control behavior, while peer influence represents an external factor that may shape adolescents’ attitudes and actions. This study aimed to determine the effect of emotional intelligence and peer influence on juvenile delinquency among students at SMK Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. The research employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. The population consisted of all eleventh-grade students of SMK Negeri 1 Kota Jambi, and a sample of 87 students was selected using random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS. The results revealed that emotional intelligence had a negative and significant effect on juvenile delinquency (β = -0.372; p = 0.047), indicating that higher emotional intelligence was associated with lower levels of delinquent behavior. Peer influence had a positive and significant effect on juvenile delinquency (β = 0.663; p = 0.000), indicating that stronger negative peer influence increased the tendency toward delinquent behavior. Simultaneously, emotional intelligence and peer influence significantly affected juvenile delinquency (F = 9.551; p = 0.000) with a coefficient of determination of 18.5%. These findings suggest that improving students’ emotional intelligence and promoting positive peer environments are important strategies for reducing juvenile delinquency among adolescents

Abstract

Group discussion is a communication method involving two or more individuals aimed at exchanging ideas, finding solutions, and deepening understanding of a particular topic. This research was motivated by the lack of students' Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) during group discussion activities. The study aims to identify the HOTS demonstrated by students in group discussions in Civic Education (PPKn) classes and to examine the role of PPKn teachers in facilitating the development of students' HOTS during the discussion process. This study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological research design. The research data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Interviews were conducted with students, teachers, and the vice principal for student affairs. The findings revealed that not all students were able to demonstrate HOTS during group discussions. However, among the HOTS aspects of analyzing, evaluating, and creating, the analyzing aspect was the most dominant skill demonstrated by students. Students were able to analyze information and issues discussed, express opinions based on logical reasoning, and formulate ideas and solutions to the problems presented. Although not all students were capable of generating new and innovative ideas, group discussion activities can serve as an effective medium for developing students' Higher Order Thinking Skills.

Abstract

The quarter-life crisis phenomenon is increasingly experienced by students in their early adulthood phase. Students not only face academic demands, but also pressures regarding their future, career, social relationships, and life decision-making. One factor suspected of being related to the quarter-life crisis is self-efficacy, namely an individual's belief in their ability to face life's challenges. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and the quarter-life crisis in the 2023 intake of students in the Guidance and Counseling Study Program, Jambi University. The study used a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The study population was 113 students with a total sampling technique so that the entire population was used as the research sample. Data collection used a Likert scale questionnaire. Data analysis used the Spearman Rank correlation test with a significance value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.00 < 0.05. The results showed that the level of student self-efficacy was in the high category with a percentage of 82.80%, while the quarter-life crisis was in the low category with a percentage of 38.57%. The results of the correlation test indicate a significant negative relationship between self-efficacy and quarter-life crisis. The higher a student's self-efficacy, the lower their quarter-life crisis. Therefore, self-efficacy is a crucial factor in helping students face the challenges of early adulthood.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the essential competencies needed by students in facing the challenges of the 21st century. However, the development of critical thinking skills is influenced by various factors, including peer relationships and parental support. This study aimed to determine the influence of peers and parents on the critical thinking skills of students in the Guidance and Counseling Study Program at Universitas Jambi. The study employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto research design. The population consisted of 223 students from the 2022 and 2023 cohorts, while 143 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression analysis. The results revealed that peers and parents had a positive and significant influence on students’ critical thinking skills, both partially and simultaneously. The partial test showed that peers significantly affected critical thinking skills (t = 6.387; p < 0.05), while parents also had a significant effect (t = 5.689; p < 0.05). Furthermore, the simultaneous test indicated that peers and parents jointly influenced critical thinking skills (F = 64.296; p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.479, indicating that 47.9% of the variance in critical thinking skills could be explained by peer and parental factors, while the remaining 52.1% was influenced by other variables. Therefore, peers and parents play a crucial role in fostering students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited use of engaging instructional media for the topic of the "Stories of the Ulul Azmi Prophets" in the fifth-grade class at SDN 16 Sampoddo, Palopo City, resulting in instruction that remained largely conventional. The study aimed to develop a Powtoon-based animated film as an instructional medium and to assess its validity and practicality for Islamic Religious Education. A Research and Development (R&D) approach was employed using the ADDIE model, comprising the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects were fifth-grade students at SDN 16 Sampoddo, Palopo City. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and validation sheets completed by subject matter and media experts. Validation results indicated that the medium achieved a score of 85% from the subject matter expert and 78.84% from the media expert, both falling into the "highly valid" category. A practicality test conducted by the teacher yielded a score of 84%, placing it in the "highly practical" category. Student feedback also indicated that the medium was easy to use, engaging, and boosted enthusiasm during the lesson. Consequently, the Powtoon-based animated film is deemed valid and practical as a supporting medium for teaching the "Stories of the Ulul Azmi Prophets" in fifth-grade Islamic Religious Education.

Abstract

Abstract

The use of Learning Management Systems (LMSs) has become an important component in supporting digital learning in higher education; however, empirical evidence regarding the factors that determine the use of the SMILE System at Universitas Negeri Padang remains limited. This study aimed to analyze the effects of system quality, information quality, and service quality on the use of the SMILE System. This study employed a quantitative approach with a survey design involving 90 active students from the Faculty of Economics and Business at Universitas Negeri Padang. The respondents were selected through purposive sampling based on the criterion that they had used the SMILE System at least three times within one month. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results showed that system quality had a positive and significant effect on the use of the SMILE System (β = 0.243; p = 0.042), whereas service quality exerted the strongest positive effect (β = 0.660; p < 0.001). Conversely, information quality did not have a significant effect on system use (β = −0.099; p = 0.179). These findings reinforce the relevance of the DeLone and McLean Information Systems Success Model in the LMS context and indicate that the use of the SMILE System is determined more by system quality and service quality than by information quality. Therefore, improvements in system reliability and the quality of support services should be prioritized to promote the sustained use of the SMILE System.
