Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of using fairy tales as instructional media to improve narrative writing skills among EFL students. The research employed a quasi-experimental design involving an experimental group and a control group. The participants were 48 second-year students of an Islamic junior high school in Indonesia, who were selected using a census technique. The experimental group received narrative writing instruction through fairy tales, while the control group was taught using conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test writing assessments and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed a significant improvement in the narrative writing performance of students taught using fairy tales. The post-test mean score of the experimental group was significantly higher than that of the control group. Statistical analysis using a t-test indicated that the difference between the two groups was statistically significant at the 0.05 level. These findings demonstrate that fairy tales are an effective instructional medium for enhancing EFL students’ narrative writing skills. Therefore, incorporating fairy tales into writing instruction is recommended to promote students’ engagement and improve their writing achievement.

Abstract

This study explores the evolving role of digital technology in Malaysia’s education system in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary objective is to assess how information and communication technologies (ICT) have been integrated into teaching and learning practices across different educational levels, and to evaluate the effectiveness, challenges, and equity implications of digital transformation in Malaysian schools. Employing a qualitative research approach through a systematic literature review (SLR), this study synthesizes findings from recent academic research, policy documents, and empirical reports published between 2020 and 2025. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis to identify patterns related to access, pedagogy, institutional readiness, and policy direction. The findings reveal that while Malaysia has made significant strides in digital infrastructure development and teacher ICT readiness, issues such as the digital divide, unequal access in rural areas, and gaps in digital pedagogy persist. Teachers generally report increased digital competency, but many still face challenges in implementing student-centered, technology-enhanced instruction due to limited resources and institutional support. Leadership and policy alignment play a critical role in the success or stagnation of digital initiatives. The novelty of this study lies in its integrated, multi-level analysis of Malaysia’s digital education transformation, incorporating recent developments in leadership, AI integration, and equity-focused policy. It offers a forward-looking perspective on building a sustainable, inclusive digital learning ecosystem. The study concludes that meaningful progress depends not only on technology availability but also on systemic reforms that prioritize equity, innovation, and capacity building at all levels of education.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of social media exposure in enhancing English vocabulary mastery among Generation Z learners. The rapid growth of digital technology has positioned social media platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube as prominent sources of informal language input, particularly for digitally native students. Grounded in the theory of Comprehensible Input, this research examines whether structured exposure to English-language content on social media can significantly improve students’ vocabulary mastery. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test model. The participants consisted of 20 Generation Z students from the English Education Department at a regional university in Indonesia. Data were collected through a vocabulary test administered before and after a seven-day social media exposure program, as well as a questionnaire measuring students’ engagement with English-language content on social media. The data were analysed using paired sample t-test and simple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS. The findings revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ vocabulary mastery after the treatment. The mean score increased from 50.75 in the pre-test to 82.25 in the post-test, with a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, the regression analysis indicated that social media engagement had a significant positive effect on vocabulary mastery, explaining 37.8% of the variance in post-test scores (R² = 0.378, p = 0.004). These results suggest that higher levels of engagement with English-language content on social media are associated with better vocabulary outcomes. social media exposure can serve as an effective supplementary tool for enhancing English vocabulary mastery among Generation Z learners. When used purposefully, social media provides authentic, multimodal, and contextual language input that aligns with learners’ digital habits and supports vocabulary acquisition beyond the traditional classroom setting.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dampak implementasi media pembelajaran Adobe Flash terhadap hasil belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa SMP Negeri 2 Baranti. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan jenis eksperimen dan desain posttest-only control design, yaitu membandingkan kelas eksperimen yang diberi perlakuan penggunaan media Adobe Flash dengan kelas kontrol yang belajar menggunakan pembelajaran konvensional. Sampel penelitian ditentukan melalui teknik purposive sampling (dua kelas yang memiliki karakteristik relatif sebanding), kemudian ditetapkan sebagai kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, tes, dan dokumentasi, sedangkan analisis data menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial (uji-t) untuk menguji perbedaan hasil belajar kedua kelompok. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi media pembelajaran Adobe Flash memberikan dampak positif, ditandai dengan meningkatnya keterlibatan siswa selama pembelajaran serta hasil belajar Bahasa Inggris siswa pada kelas eksperimen yang lebih baik dibandingkan kelas kontrol.

Abstract

Program Pengenalan Lapangan Persekolahan (PLP) merupakan bagian penting dalam pendidikan calon guru untuk membekali mahasiswa dengan pengalaman autentik di sekolah. Namun, pelaksanaan PLP masih menghadapi berbagai permasalahan, terutama rendahnya kemampuan mahasiswa dalam merancang pembelajaran, mengelola kelas, menerapkan strategi pembelajaran aktif, serta melakukan refleksi pembelajaran secara sistematis. Oleh karena itu, pendampingan berbasis lesson study dipandang sebagai alternatif yang efektif untuk memperkuat kompetensi pedagogik mahasiswa PLP. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pelaksanaan pendampingan, hasil kegiatan, serta implikasinya terhadap penguatan kompetensi pedagogik mahasiswa PLP melalui lesson study di SMA Negeri 2 Sidrap. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif kolaboratif dengan tahapan plan, do, dan see yang melibatkan dosen pembimbing, guru pamong, dan mahasiswa PLP. Teknik pengumpulan data meliputi observasi, wawancara, dokumentasi, dan refleksi pembelajaran. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan simpulan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan yang signifikan pada kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menyusun perangkat pembelajaran, melaksanakan pembelajaran yang berorientasi pada keaktifan peserta didik, serta melakukan refleksi pembelajaran berbasis perbaikan berkelanjutan. Simpulan penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pendampingan berbasis lesson study efektif dalam memperkuat kompetensi pedagogik mahasiswa PLP. Implikasi penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi bagi pengembangan model pembinaan PLP berbasis kolaborasi yang berkelanjutan serta menjadi rekomendasi strategis bagi lembaga pendidikan dalam menyiapkan calon guru yang profesional, reflektif, dan adaptif terhadap dinamika pembelajaran.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan metode pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris guna meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara (speaking) siswa di UPT SMAN 4 Sidrap. Latar belakang penelitian ini didasarkan pada rendahnya keberanian dan keterampilan siswa dalam menggunakan Bahasa Inggris secara lisan dalam proses pembelajaran. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah pendekatan pembelajaran komunikatif dengan menerapkan berbagai strategi seperti diskusi kelompok, tanya jawab, role play, dan penggunaan media pembelajaran sederhana yang menarik. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dalam bentuk praktik mengajar langsung kepada siswa kelas X dan XII selama pelaksanaan Program Pengenalan Lapangan Persekolahan (PLP) II. Hasil dari penerapan metode ini menunjukkan adanya peningkatan keaktifan siswa, kepercayaan diri dalam berbicara Bahasa Inggris, serta peningkatan kemampuan mengungkapkan ide secara lisan. Selain itu, suasana kelas menjadi lebih interaktif dan menyenangkan. Dengan demikian, pengembangan metode pembelajaran yang variatif dan komunikatif terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa. Diharapkan metode ini dapat diterapkan secara berkelanjutan oleh guru untuk meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di sekolah.

Abstract

Listening comprehension plays a crucial role in tertiary EFL learning; however, many university students struggle due to limited exposure to contextualized and authentic audio input. Despite the growing use of storytelling in language teaching, few empirical studies have examined the effectiveness of audio-only storytelling in higher education EFL listening classrooms. This study investigates whether audio storytelling significantly improves university students’ listening comprehension. A quasi-experimental one-group pre-test–post-test design was employed involving 30 undergraduate EFL students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a validated listening comprehension test and analyzed through descriptive statistics and a paired-sample t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ mean scores from 62.40 (pre-test) to 78.60 (post-test), with p < 0.05. The calculated effect size indicated a strong practical impact. These findings suggest that audio storytelling provides contextualized and meaningful input that significantly enhances listening comprehension in tertiary EFL classrooms.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the role of Bugis tabe’ culture in enhancing students’ politeness strategies in English classroom interaction at SDIT Al-Iman Uluale, Sidenreng Rappang Regency. The study also examined how the cultural values embedded in tabe’ influenced students’ verbal and non-verbal communication during English learning activities. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. The participants of this research consisted of one English teacher and sixth-grade students at SDIT Al-Iman Uluale. The data were analyzed using an interactive qualitative analysis model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to identify patterns of politeness strategies used by students during classroom interaction. The findings revealed that Bugis tabe’ culture plays an important role in shaping students’ politeness strategies in English classroom interaction. Politeness was reflected through verbal expressions such as polite words, indirect utterances, and respectful language forms. In addition, non-verbal behaviors such as respectful posture, soft tone of voice, and appropriate turn-taking were also observed during classroom communication. The students also practiced multilingual politeness strategies by combining Bugis, Indonesian, and English expressions to maintain respect and clarity when interacting with the teacher. In conclusion, the integration of Bugis tabe’ cultural values in English learning supports the development of polite and respectful communication among students. It also contributes to creating a positive and conducive classroom environment while strengthening students’ character and cultural awareness in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate how physical activities enhance EFL learners’ motivation in learning English at MTs YMPI Rappang. The research focused on identifying the types of physical activities that effectively increased students’ motivation and exploring the challenges encountered during their implementation in the classroom. Physical activities such as Total Physical Response (TPR), movement-based games, and role-playing were integrated into English lessons to create a more interactive and engaging learning environment. This research employed a descriptive qualitative design supported by quantitative data from questionnaires. The participants consisted of ninth-grade students at MTs YMPI Rappang and one English teacher. The data were collected through classroom observation, semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The qualitative data were analyzed using the interactive model of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, while the questionnaire data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings revealed that the integration of physical activities significantly improved students’ motivation, participation, and confidence in learning English. Students showed higher enthusiasm, were more actively involved in classroom activities, and demonstrated greater willingness to communicate during the learning process. Physical activities also created a more dynamic classroom atmosphere and reduced students’ anxiety toward learning English. However, several challenges were identified, including classroom management, time limitations, and differences in students’ learning styles. the use of physical activities in EFL classrooms positively contributes to enhancing students’ motivation and engagement in learning English. Therefore, integrating movement-based strategies into English instruction is recommended as an effective approach to create more interactive and motivating learning experiences.
