Abstract

Reproductive health is a crucial aspect of individual and community life. Factors influencing reproductive health include social, economic, cultural, and environmental factors. School Health Units (UKS) are educational units' efforts to instill, foster, develop, and enhance healthy living skills. Reproductive health issues prevalent among adolescents represent a small fraction of the overall reproductive health problem. Therefore, one effort that can be taken is to establish and activate School Health Units. These School Health Units (UKS) play a crucial role in helping to increase knowledge about adolescent reproductive health through various means, including providing appropriate and correct education on adolescent reproductive health, so that students can obtain reliable information. The material was delivered through lectures, discussions, and Q&A sessions with participants using flipcharts. After the education, each young woman was asked to explain reproductive health to her friends and was divided into two groups. This was so that the Community Service team could monitor the young women's ability to educate their peers. The results showed an increase in knowledge of 90% and sufficient knowledge of 10%. It is hoped that the Health Unit (UKS) will continue to monitor the increase in knowledge of young women about reproductive health. This is certainly very necessary for young women who manage the UKS in managing the UKS related to reproductive health.

Abstract

Reproductive health (Kespro) is an important aspect that should be introduced from adolescence, as this period is a transition to adulthood marked by physical, psychological, and social changes. A lack of understanding of reproductive health can lead to risky behavior among adolescents. This community service activity was carried out at SMP Pertiwi 1 Kota Jambi with the aim of optimizing the role of the School Health Unit (UKS) in improving students’ knowledge of reproductive health. The method used was health education through counseling, interactive presentations, and group discussions. The activity was conducted from March to August 2025. Evaluation was carried out using pre-test and post-test instruments administered to 10 UKS team students. The results showed that before education, the students’ level of knowledge was in the good category for 8 students (80%), sufficient for 2 students (20%), and poor for 0 students (0%). After education, students’ knowledge improved to the good category for all 10 students (100%), while sufficient and poor categories were not found (0%). Although most students already have good knowledge, there are still 20% of students with sufficient knowledge. Education is needed to align the understanding of all members of the Health and Safety Team, prevent information gaps between students, and ensure all participants have correct and standardized knowledge. These findings indicate a significant improvement in students’ knowledge after receiving education. Thus, this activity proves that reproductive health education through the optimization of the UKS team is effective in increasing knowledge and creating positive changes before and after implementation. It is expected that similar programs can be carried out sustainably so that students gain adequate provisions to maintain reproductive health from an early age.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is a chronic disease that spreads very easily and quickly, posing a national and global health threat. Indonesia ranks second in the world for the highest number of pulmonary TB cases, after India. Low public knowledge, stigma, access to healthcare services, and the long duration of treatment for pulmonary TB are contributing factors to the increase in pulmonary TB cases in Indonesia. The importance of empowering communities and health cadres to prevent transmission and supervise medication intake in pulmonary TB patients aligns with the National Pulmonary TB Elimination Program 2030. This community service aims to increase the knowledge and skills of communities and health cadres in recognizing risk factors, preventing transmission, and supervising treatment for pulmonary TB. The service activity was held on July 17, 2025, and was attended by 22 participants from the community and health cadres. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach with pre and post tests. Subsequently, education was conducted using interactive face-to-face lectures, discussions, practical demonstrations of effective coughing and cough etiquette, and the distribution of informative leaflets. The follow-up session for the patients' families will be held on July 20, 2025, to conduct direct monitoring at one of the homes of patients with pulmonary TB. The empowerment activities significantly improved the knowledge (p-value 0.004) and behavior (p-value 0.003) of the community and pulmonary TB cadres. The average knowledge score before the activity was 68 (66-74) and increased to 85 (79-91) after the activity. Similarly, the average behavior score increased from 63 (56-74) to 76 (67-87). Health empowerment through education, counseling, and training, as well as the direct use of brochures, proved highly effective in increasing awareness and competence in controlling pulmonary TB. The empowerment activities successfully increased the contribution of health cadres in preventing and early detecting transmission, as well as monitoring the treatment of pulmonary TB patients. There needs to be increased active participation from the community, health cadres, and community leaders so that pulmonary TB elimination can be achieved, especially in the Legok Village.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) operate in increasingly competitive environments that require sustained creativity and innovation to achieve superior performance. This study examined the mediating role of competitive advantage in the relationship between creativity, innovation culture, and business performance of MSMEs in Malang City. A mixed-method explanatory design was employed to provide both contextual depth and empirical validation. The qualitative phase involved semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders, including government representatives, MSME community leaders, and business owners, to explore ecosystem-based innovation dynamics. The quantitative phase collected survey data from 120 MSME actors selected through purposive sampling, using structured questionnaires adapted from validated measurement scales. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The results demonstrated that creativity and innovation culture did not directly influence business performance; however, both variables significantly affected performance indirectly through competitive advantage. These findings indicate a full mediation effect, suggesting that internal creative and innovative capacities translate into superior performance only when transformed into strategic competitive positioning. The study extends the Resource-Based View and Schumpeterian innovation perspective by empirically validating the mediating mechanism within a local MSME ecosystem context. Practically, the results highlight the importance of strengthening innovation culture and strategic differentiation to enhance MSME competitiveness.

Abstract

Abstract

This policy paper analyzes the output-based planning and budgeting system at UIN Alauddin Makassar, which continues to face serious obstacles in measuring and verifying the contribution of Tridharma (the three pillars of higher education) activities toward the university's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This study identifies the primary weakness in the absence of specific, measurable, and standardized performance indicators, resulting in evaluations that emphasize administrative activities rather than substantive outcomes. Further analysis reveals that weak monitoring and evaluation mechanisms, limited human resource capacity, and fragmented data systems exacerbate the ineffectiveness of performance-based budgeting. The USG (Urgency, Seriousness, Growth) method was applied to determine priority issues, indicating that the weakness of output–outcome measurement is the most critical problem. These findings demonstrate that performance measurement is not merely a technical issue but a governance problem affecting accountability, expenditure effectiveness, and evidence-based decision-making. The study recommends establishing standardized cross-unit performance indicators, integrating monitoring and evaluation systems with performance data, and strengthening analytical capacity as strategic measures to ensure that planning and budgeting systems genuinely support measurable and sustainable institutional goals.

Abstract

Cataracts are a leading cause of global blindness, affecting over 20 million individuals, according to the WHO are primarily age-related but are influenced by UV radiation-induced oxidative stress on lens proteins and cells. Geographic UV intensity variations prompted further comparative studies Glutathione Sulfhydryl (GSH) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) in senile cataracts. This was a cross-sectional study. utilized all senile cataract patients who underwent extracapsular cataract extraction (ECCE) surgery. Lens nucleus specimens were examined for GSH and MDA levels at the Biomedical Laboratory of the Faculty of Medicine and Andalas University. The examination results were processed and analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test. The study included 32 participants, with the majority (68.8%) being men, primarily working as farmers (56.3%), and 81.3% having mature cataracts. No significant differences were found in GSH and MDA levels between residents living in coastal areas and those living in mountainous areas, with p-values of 0.087 and 0.484, respectively (p>0.05). There was no correlation between GSH and MDA levels in patients with senile cataracts living in coastal and mountainous areas or in those living solely in coastal or mountainous areas (p>0.05). There was no correlation between GSH and MDA levels in patients with senile cataracts living in coastal and mountainous areas. The decrease in GSH levels was due to aging and was not influenced by UV exposure. The average MDA levels in mountain residents were higher than those in coastal residents. UV radiation in mountainous areas induced more ROS, resulting in slightly higher MDA levels than in coastal areas.
