Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has opened various opportunities for the development of innovative learning media, one of which is bilingual instructional media based on animated videos. This study aims to examine the concept of bilingual learning media, digital applications that can be used in its design, and effective implementation strategies to improve English language skills among elementary school students. This research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review method from various relevant sources, including journals, articles, and books. The results show that bilingual learning media based on animated videos can enhance student engagement, motivation, and understanding of learning materials, particularly in English language instruction. This media presents material both visually and auditorily in two languages, Indonesian and English, simultaneously, thus strengthening interlingual connections and accelerating vocabulary acquisition. Applications such as Canva, Animaker, Powtoon, and Toonly have proven effective in supporting the design process of this media. Recommended design strategies include selecting contextual content, integrating cultural values, and utilizing engaging animations and audio. Therefore, this media serves as a potential alternative to create interactive, enjoyable, and meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the form, structure, and strategy of instructional phrase usage by teachers in bilingual learning in elementary schools. The type of method used is descriptive qualitative research. The results show that teachers use instructional phrases in the form of simple imperative sentences, both in full English and mixed with Indonesian (code-mixing). The translanguaging strategy is the main approach used by teachers to adjust instructions to the students' level of understanding. Translanguaging is used in the form of bilingual repetition, meaning clarification, and context adjustment. This study concludes that the strategic use of instructional phrases in a bilingual context can improve students' understanding and engagement in learning.

Abstract

Background: This research discusses the various learning models used in bilingual classes in primary schools. This research aims to analyse various effective bilingual learning models for primary school students, so as to contribute to the development of learning methods that can improve students' language skills, confidence, and learning quality. This research uses the literature review research method which is needed to explore topics and issues related to the research to be investigated. Some of the approaches reviewed include cooperative models such as Inside-Outside Circle and Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFAE), Preview-Review models using realia, and guided inquiry models combined with pair cards. Not only that, teacher training using the PPP (Presentation, Practice, and Production) method is also a concern to improve teachers' ability to teach bilingually. Results from various studies show that these models are successful in making students more active, understand the material better, and be more confident in using English. For example, the Inside-Outside Circle and SFAE models encourage students to discuss and exchange information, while the Preview-Review method with real media and the play and sing method make learning more interesting and easy to understand. Meanwhile, the guided inquiry model was found to be highly effective in improving students' engagement and learning outcomes in thematic lessons.Overall, these studies confirm that the use of active and interactive learning methods is essential in bilingual learning to make learning more enjoyable, communicative and effective for primary school students.

Abstract

The use of two languages of instruction in bilingual classes, English and Indonesian, in the process of teaching and learning activities is certainly not an easy thing. Teachers must be able to choose the right learning theory and the right and clear learning references, so that the bilingual learning that will be implemented can run well. can run well. In the implementation of bilingual learning, there are special designs, plans, or stages that are mature so that the learning process can take place optimally. The design of bilingual learning can be interpreted from various perspectives, such as discussing various studies and theories regarding the strategy and process of learning development and implementation. The result of this study shown that Bilingual learning involves the use of two languages, usually the mother tongue and English, to enhance cognitive abilities, creativity, problem solving and socio-cultural understanding. Bilingual education requires careful planning, with teachers who are proficient in both languages and schools that provide the necessary resources such as teaching materials and infrastructure. Bilingual learning starts with basic vocabulary and simple conversation. The curriculum focuses on real-world words and phrases, which gradually helps students become fluent in both languages, so they can switch from one to the other with ease. Theoretical frameworks, such as the Global English Club approach, support bilingual education through methods such as group discussions and real-world learning experiences. Bilingual learning methods, including the Transition, Maintenance, Enrichment and Legacy approaches, aim to meet students' needs and curriculum objectives. Activities such as role-playing and group discussions further reinforce language retention and active learning in both academic and real-life contexts. Regular evaluation of student progress is necessary for continuous improvement in teaching and learning outcomes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the ideal stages in bilingual teaching for elementary school students in Indonesia. This study is a qualitative study with a case study method through a literature review of scientific articles, journals, and other academic publications. The subjects of this study were elementary school students in Indonesia. The results of the analysis show that the implementation of bilingual teaching in elementary schools consists of three main stages, namely 1) the introduction stage (early exposure), which focuses on the introduction of basic vocabulary in two languages; 2) the development stage (developing bilingual proficiency), which encourages students to apply the second language in everyday life through the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and English Conversation methods, and 3) the consolidation stage (fluency & academic integration), where students are expected to be fluent in using the second language and integrated with academic subjects. The success of bilingual teaching is influenced by school management factors, teacher readiness, and support from parents and the community. This study is expected to be a basis for educators, curriculum designers, and policy makers in developing effective bilingual learning.

Abstract

This study seeks to examine the development of efficient bilingual flash card learning tools to enhance students' vocabulary abilities within bilingual education. The method employed in this research is a literature review utilizing a qualitative approach, examining multiple pertinent literature sources concerning the use of flash cards for language acquisition. The findings indicated that employing bilingual flash card media greatly enhanced students' vocabulary skills, showing an average improvement of up to 44% over traditional learning approaches. Bilingual flash card media facilitates students to compare and understand the differences and similarities between the two languages, thereby accelerating the process of vocabulary mastery simultaneously. The advantages of flash cards that are practical, efficient, easy to remember, and entertaining make them an appropriate choice for bilingual learning. Its implementation in the form of games also increases active participation, learning motivation, and student engagement in learning. Effective design pays attention to attractive visual aspects, contextual content, and interactive usage methods. This research concludes that bilingual flash card media is an effective solution to overcome the challenges of vocabulary mastery in bilingual learning, as well as contributing to the development of learning models that enrich students' learning experiences in a bilingual context.

Abstract

It is important to introduce English early so that learners have the habit of hearing and understanding its meaning. Embedding bilingual English in the learning process will shape learners' habits to become more familiar with English. The purpose of this study is to analyze the language strategies set by teachers in bilingual learning using video media in elementary schools. The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method. The teacher's learning will be analyzed using the learning process instrument, then it will be studied descriptively. The results of the analysis of the bilingual learning video found that the teacher used the Problem-Based Learning model and language strategies in the form of code-switching between English and Indonesian. This strategy helps improve concept understanding, communication skills, and learners' confidence in using a foreign language. The use of video media also supports the bilingual learning process by presenting the material visually and contextually. The conclusion confirms that bilingual learning, when designed in a planned and consistent manner, can strengthen learners' linguistic abilities.
