Abstract

Effective presentation skills are essential for EFL learners; however, many EFL students struggle to balance verbal proficiency with non-verbal expressiveness, leading to presentations that lack engagement, clarity, and confidence. This study explores how the integration of multimodal communication strategies can bridge the gap between verbal and non-verbal competence in EFL students’ presentations. Using a concurrent embedded mixed-methods design, 17 fourth-semester EFL students were purposively selected from two classes in the teaching Grammar course at Universitas Islam Negeri Walisongo Semarang. Data were collected through classroom observations, video recordings, and questionnaires, and they were analyzed using thematic and descriptive statistical methods. Findings show significant improvements in verbal delivery (pronunciation, fluency, prosody) and non-verbal expression (eye contact, gestures, posture, spatial awareness). Furthermore, it revealed that multimodal strategies enhance presentation quality and reduce language anxiety by distributing communicative load across multiple modes. It recommends embedding multimodal training in EFL curricula with constructive feedback and accessible digital tools.

Abstract

This study investigates the digital literacy attitudes of seventh-semester EFL pre-service teachers at one Muhammadiyah University in West Java, focusing on their experiences, challenges, and needs in utilizing digital tools for instructional purposes. While digital literacy is increasingly recognized as a crucial skill in modern education, many pre-service teachers face significant obstacles, including limited technical proficiency, difficulty in accessing credible online resources, and a lack of understanding of ethical considerations in digital content creation. Employing a qualitative approach through open-ended questionnaires and semi-structured interviews, this research explores participants’ perspectives on using digital tools such as Canva and Wordwall in developing learning media. The findings reveal that although pre-service teachers are enthusiastic about incorporating technology into their teaching practices, technical difficulties and ethical concerns often hinder their efforts. Participants emphasized the need for more practical training, hands-on workshops, and ethical guidelines to enhance their digital literacy competencies. The study highlights the importance of integrating structured digital literacy training into teacher education programs, ensuring that future educators are well-equipped to design engaging and pedagogically sound instructional media. Addressing these challenges will ultimately contribute to improving the quality of EFL teaching and fostering a more technology-integrated learning environment.

Abstract

The present study explored the use of interlingual subtitling tasks to improve translation quality and student motivation. Using a qualitative descriptive approach with content analysis, 14 English Education students participated in a subtitling activity. Their work was evaluated for accuracy, acceptability, and readability, with multiple raters ensuring reliability. Findings revealed that although most subtitles were generally understandable, issues remained in terms of natural flow, contextual precision, and linguistic appropriateness. This study suggests that incorporating subtitling into translation pedagogy not only diversifies learning activities but also supports the development of key translation competencies. It highlights the value of engaging, real-world tasks in maintaining learner interest and enhancing translation quality.

Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini membahas tentang pengembangan video animasi pada pembelajaran biologi materi reproduksi di kelas XI SMU Daarut Tauhid Boarding School Bandung. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui tingkat kelayakan dan menganalisis efektifitas pengembangan media pembelajaran video animasi pada pelajaran biologi. Pendidikan sebagai fondasi utama dalam membentuk generasi yang kompeten dan siap menghadapi tantangan global dengan berbagai kemajuan teknologi digital. Metode penelitian yang digunakan penelitian pengembangan atau R & D model 4D (Four-D) dengan produk media video animasi mampu meningkatkan hasil belajar biologi, skor siswa sebelum mendapat perlakuan penggunaan media video animasi pembelajaran rata-rata kelas sebesar 60 dan setelah mendapatkan perlakuan penggunaan media video animasi pembelajaran sebesar 88, hasil analisa menunjukan bahwa rata-rata perbedaan nilai pengajaran metode baru dengan metode lama sebesar 27.4, dengan nilai signifikan 0.000. Hasil analisa uji normalitas menunjukan bahwa rerata validasi produk oleh ketiga validator sebesar 94.05 % dan termasuk pada kategori sangat valid, rata-rata perbedaan nilai pengajaran metode baru dengan metode lama sebesar 2.45, dengan nilai signifikan 0.000, meningkatkan keterampilan abad ke-21 yang dikenal dengan 4C (Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Creativ) sebagai keterampilan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berkomunikasi, berkolaborasi, berpikir kritis, dan berpikir kreatif. Hasil validasi ahli menunjukkan rerata 94.05 yang menunjukkan video animasi materi sistem reproduksi secara kognitif dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar biologi materi Sistem Reproduksi Manusia kelas XI.

Abstract

This study discusses the critical issue of asset misappropriation in the public sector, a phenomenon that significantly undermines institutional integrity and the country's financial stability. The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the influence of pressure, opportunity, rationalization, and capability on asset misappropriation in government organizations. This study uses quantitative methodology; data collected from 137 public sector employees in Semarang City and analyzed through Partial Least Squares (PLS)-based Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using SmartPLS 4.0. The results show that the four variables, namely pressure, opportunity, rationalization, and capability, have a positive and significant effect on asset misappropriation

Abstract

Vocabulary is a crucial aspect of language learning, impacting the four core skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. A strong vocabulary foundation enables students to understand spoken language, express their ideas effectively, comprehend texts, and produce well-structured written content. However, vocabulary acquisition remains a challenge for many students, particularly when conventional teaching methods fail to engage them, resulting in difficulties in memorization, lack of motivation, and monotonous learning experiences. To overcome these challenges, innovative strategies like gamification have been introduced to enhance engagement and learning outcomes. One effective approach is using Kahoot!, a game-based learning platform that integrates interactive quizzes and competition to make learning enjoyable. Research indicates that gamified learning environments boost motivation, participation, and vocabulary retention. This study explores the effectiveness of Kahoot! in improving vocabulary skills among sixth-grade students at SD Negeri Penggarutan 01 Brebes. A quantitative pre-experimental design was used, involving 18 students selected through purposive sampling. Vocabulary tests were conducted as both pre-test and post-test to measure the impact of Kahoot!, with data analysed using SPSS 22, including descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test. Results showed a significant improvement in vocabulary scores, with the mean increasing from 72.50 in the pre-test to 79.17 in the post-test. The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05), confirming Kahoot!'s effectiveness. The study concludes that Kahoot! is a valuable tool for vocabulary learning, fostering motivation, participation, and retention.

Abstract

This research examines the vocabulary profile in 8th grade Indonesian EFL textbooks published by the Indonesian Ministry of Education in 2022 through a corpus-based approach. The study is aimed to draw a vocabulary profile of high-, mid- and low-frequency based category of vocabulary levels. In addition, the research also reports the estimated number of vocabulary size required to promote an adequate reading comprehension, where 95% and 98% coverage are regarded as the threshold. The textbook examined was obtained from the Indonesian Book Information System and prepared as analyzable corpora. The corpora consist of 27188 tokens is analyzed using Range program to obtain preliminary data analysis. The first research question revealed that the textbook contains approximately 85% of high-frequency words, followed by 7% and 0.3% of mid- and low- frequency words respectively. The second research question showed that in order to reach reading comprehension threshold of 95%, the learners need the knowledge of 3000 word-families, and additional one-thousand-word families to reach 98% of text coverage. At the end, the findings of this study suggest pedagogical implication for teachers, practical implication for textbook authors, and basis for subsequent research.

Abstract

Artikel ini mengkaji falsafah hukum Islam dengan menitikberatkan pada konsep Asrār al-Ahkām dan relevansinya dalam kerangka maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah pada konteks kehidupan modern. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan bahwa hukum Islam tidak semata-mata berfungsi sebagai seperangkat aturan normatif, tetapi juga mengandung tujuan, hikmah, dan nilai kemaslahatan yang mendalam. Melalui pendekatan kualitatif-deskriptif berbasis kajian pustaka, artikel ini menganalisis bagaimana setiap ketentuan syariat memiliki rasionalitas moral dan sosial yang berorientasi pada perlindungan kepentingan dasar manusia. Konsep Asrār al-Ahkām dipahami sebagai upaya menyingkap dimensi filosofis di balik hukum-hukum syariat, seperti shalat yang membentuk kedisiplinan spiritual, zakat yang memperkuat solidaritas sosial, serta larangan riba yang bertujuan mencegah ketimpangan dan ketidakadilan ekonomi. Temuan kajian menunjukkan bahwa integrasi Asrār al-Ahkām dengan teori maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah yang mencakup perlindungan agama, jiwa, akal, keturunan, dan harta menjadikan hukum Islam bersifat dinamis dan kontekstual. Dalam menghadapi tantangan modern seperti isu hak asasi manusia, kesetaraan sosial, kesehatan publik, dan kelestarian lingkungan, pendekatan ini menegaskan fleksibilitas hukum Islam serta orientasinya pada kemaslahatan umat secara universal.

Abstract

The community service conducted at SMAK BPK Penabur Sentul, on January 31, 2025, was in conjunction with the self-development program included in the high school’s curriculum and part of maintaining the students’ well-being at school. Implementing good governance starts with the individuals who are members of the organization, each practicing self-regulation. Based on the survey, all components obtained a score of above three, which indicated that the students perceived an overall positive experience. The workshop reported in this article exemplifies the value of such community service for the collaborating high school and university, as well as for all individuals involved. Ultimately, this community service format offers a distinct learning experience for high school students and can also enhance university-level lecturers' teaching skills.

Abstract

: Students can comprehend the nursing process and disease cases thanks to the nursing study program's English syllabus.┬á Thus, the purpose of this study is to determine how well the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) improves university-level nursing students' speaking abilities. The study employs a quasi-experimental research design and quantitative methods.┬á The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not GBA can improve university-level speaking abilities among nursing students.┬á A complete sampling technique is used to choose the sample, which consists of 71 students in total.┬á The GBA is used to teach English in the experimental group.┬á In contrast, the control group receives English instruction using a traditional method. the information gathered from the pre-test and post-test. Both descriptive and inferential analysis are performed on the data using the SPPS 22 version application. In hypothesis testing, 0.05 is a common significance level. Since 0.530 is more than 0.05, the null hypothesisÔÇöwhich typically states that there is no difference between the groupsÔÇöcannot be disproved. It shows that H0 is accepted while Ha is denied.
