This demonstrates how crucial it is to conduct literacy initiatives in schools because they aid in children's development, particularly when it comes to fostering a love of reading. This research began with the issue of low reading interest among students at SDN 2 Keru. The research objective was to evaluate the effectiveness of utilizing the reading corner as a strategy to increase reading interest among SDN 2 Keru students. The research method employed was qualitative with interviews and observations as data collection tools. The research results indicated a significant increase in the students' reading interest after the implementation of the reading corner. The discussion identified the importance of selecting suitable books and creating a supportive environment. Recommendations include expanding the reading corner program and diversifying the book collection to sustain and enhance students' reading interests. Keywords: reading area; strategy; interest in reading; elementary school.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the main obstacles faced by the Dumai City Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD) in its supervisory function over public policy-making at the regional level. The research method used was secondary data analysis and a survey of members of the Dumai City DPRD. The findings show that the DPRD faces several monitoring obstacles, including dependence on local government, an imbalance of political power, limited resources, limited access to information, and a need for more awareness and skills in carrying out supervision. These findings imply the need for strategic action to minimize dependence on local governments, strengthen legislative control, more adequate resource allocation, and increase information disclosure and training for DPRD members. By overcoming these obstacles, the Dumai City DPRD can carry out its oversight role more effectively and contribute to good governance at the regional level.

Abstract

Traditional views of leadership often associate strong leadership with directness, decisiveness, and dominance, which are stereotypically coded as masculine while perceiving empathy and collaborative orientation–qualities commonly associated with femininity–as less compatible with effective leadership. However, contemporary research demonstrates the increasing importance of empathy in effective leadership, particularly during crisis situations. This study explores the persuasive strategies employed by New Zealand’s former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in her speeches following the 2019 Christchurch mosque shootings. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, this study applies discourse analysis to six transcripts of speeches by Jacinda Ardern to identify discourse patterns that demonstrate her persuasive strategies and examined how these patterns function in crisis communication. The findings revealed three critical elements of Ardern’s persuasive strategies: combining transparency and compassion to foster trust, demonstrating clarity and decisiveness to establish authority, and using motivational and forward-looking discourse to inspire collective action. These elements demonstrate how Ardern’s empathetic communication helped build trust and encourage compliance, while her directive and decisive language facilitated actionable resolution, which enabled the nation’s swift recovery. By critically challenging persistent gender stereotypes in leadership that frame empathy and decisiveness as mutually exclusive traits, this study underscores the transformative potential of empathetic leadership in managing crise and advances gender equity in leadership discourse.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of strengthening the religious character of students in the madrasah environment. There are still students who have not prayed on time and are less active in religious activities such as commemorating Islamic holidays. Strategic efforts to strengthen religious character are carried out through the internalization of values in the Rahmatan Lil 'Alamin Student Profile (PPRA). The purpose of this study is to determine how students practice the values of PPRA, describe the religious character of students, and analyze the effect of PPRA values on the religious character of students at MAN 3 Padang Pariaman. This research uses a quantitative approach with ex post facto method. The research sample amounted to 99 students from classes X and XI who were selected through proportional random sampling. The data collection instrument was a Likert scale questionnaire, while the data analysis technique used simple linear regression test. The results showed that PPRA values were internalized through real activities such as Bajamba Custom, Student Elections, Friday Blessings, and Ecobricks which fostered religious attitudes, social responsibility, and empathy. The religious character of students is reflected in positive habits such as congregational prayer, daily prayer, Friday donations, and involvement in religious activities. The results of the regression analysis showed a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05) and an R Square value of 0.743, which is

Abstract

Globalization and technological developments have posed significant challenges to students’ character education, including weakened morality, rising individualism, diminished appreciation of cultural values, and reduced sensitivity to religious teachings. This study aims to analyze the implementation of integrating Minangkabau local wisdom and Islamic values in character education at SMAN 1 West Sumatra, as well as the strategies employed by the school to optimize this integration. The study uses a qualitative case study approach, involving in-depth interviews with school leaders, teachers, and students, participatory observations, and analysis of school documents and visual archives. Data were thematically analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, with triangulation to ensure validity. The results show that character internalization occurs holistically through habituation, teacher role modeling, school routines, religious and social activities, and community involvement. Values such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, and tolerance are internalized practically. Integrating Islamic values with the principle of Adat Basandi Syara’, Syara’ Basandi Kitabullah strengthens students’ religious and cultural identity while equipping them with moral, social, and reflective competencies relevant to modern challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR) teaching materials based on cognitive conflict integrated with the STEM approach to increase student self-efficacy in the material of Newton's law of gravity. The research used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design model involving 72 SMA / MA students divided into experimental and control groups. The main instrument was a student self-efficacy questionnaire. The results showed that the use of STEM-integrated cognitive conflict-based AR significantly increased students’ self-efficacy compared to conventional learning. The average self-efficacy score of the experimental group is higher, with an increase that falls into the moderate category. This finding indicates that the integration of technology and cognitive conflict strategies in the STEM approach can be an effective, innovative learning alternative to build students' self-efficacy in understanding physics concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to review the construction of gender identity in Shakespeare's sonnets in the context of contemporary gender theory and queer reading. A descriptive qualitative method is applied with a Formalism approach combined with queer theory (Butler, 1990; Sedgwick, 1990) and Marxist feminism (Federici, 2012). The primary data consists of five selected sonnets, Sonnet 20, 57, 62, 18, and 55, which are analyzed using close reading techniques, textual interpretation, and contextual analysis. The research steps include: (1) selecting sonnet texts based on the relevance of gender themes, (2) identifying formal elements (diction, structure, symbols), (3) analyzing meaning and power relations in the discourse of love and identity, and (4) drawing conclusions based on the theory used. The results of the study show five main findings. First, Sonnet 20 displays an ambiguous representation of gender, showing the shifting roles between masculine and feminine. Second, Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 87 depict homoerotic desire and power relations that transcend heteronormative norms. Third, Sonnet 57 shows the emotional ambiguity and identity of the poet as a passive subject and admirer. Fourth, Sonnet 62 reveals Time, Mortality, and the Search for Eternal Identity, while fifth, Sonnet 55 shows language, symbols, and performativity as spaces for identity formation. This study concludes that Shakespeare views identity as a fluid social and linguistic construction, and makes poetry a space for negotiation between love, time, and human existence.
