Abstract

Electric vehicle (EV) is an alternative expected to be tail-pipe emission-free and improve public health. Switching conventional or internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs) to EVs becomes a potential strategy for realizing urban sustainability. The study aims to review the environmental impact between ICEV and EV in Lithuania, China, Canada, Poland, Czech Republic, Italy, United States, and Australia. Then, the review result is compared to the Indonesia context as lessons learned. A comparative study with a qualitative descriptive method was carried out. The main activities are a literature review. The works of literature were collected, classified, and reviewed to find out significant findings on the environmental impact of ICEV and EV. Assessing the vehicle in all life-cycle (LC) phases is an essential issue. The entire LC of products may significantly impact the environment due to the utilization of raw materials through a process that causes adverse environmental impacts. Therefore, Life-cycle assessment (LCA) is proposed to estimate the environmental effects related to all the LC stages of EVs. Thus, LCA could be a critical tool. Numerous cases in several countries show that EVs were not always more environmentally friendly than ICEVs. The review indicates that EVs and electricity-generating mix scenarios play a significant role in performing LCA due to the performance of an EV is extremely dependent on the energy consumed through its operation phase. Additionally, the results show how significant renewable energy sources (RES) are in the electricity-generating mix that provides different environmental impacts. In the Indonesia context, the environmental impact of EV is predicted to be higher than ICEV due to the electricity generating mix is still lower than 20% in 2023. Optimizing the electricity generating mix scenario by increasing the RES, implementing clean technology power plants, and applying vehicle recycling are excellent strategies to promote sustainable development in the EV industry. However, economic and social aspects shall be considered to get comprehensive results in further research.

Abstract

This study undertakes a critical re-examination of the interpretation of the term al- laww?mah in verse 75:2 of S?rat al-Qiy?mah, traditionally understood to signify reprehensible desires or internal moral impulses. Employing Roland Barthes’ semiotic framework, the research conducts a qualitative descriptive analysis to uncover the term’s layered semantic and conceptual significations within the Qur’anic text. The findings yield two pivotal contributions: First, at the semantic level, al-laww?mah transcends mere moral failings to encompass individuals who persistently engage in deliberate wrongdoing despite conscious awareness of their ethical transgressions. Second, within Barthes’ mythic system, al-laww?mah emerges as a symbol of moral hypocrisy, embodying an existential tension between idealized ethical principles and sinful praxis. By synthesizing classical Qur’anic exegesis with modern semiotic theory, the study repositions al-laww?mah as a complex ethical construct, while illuminating its implications for contemporary discourses on moral accountability and spiritual integrity. These insights challenge reductive interpretations of the term, advancing a nuanced understanding of its socio-ethical resonance and underscoring its relevance to interdisciplinary dialogues in religious studies, semiotics, and moral philosophy.

Abstract

According to the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS), banana production has consistently increased from 2020 to 2023, around 12.97%. Unfortunately, Indonesia's annual banana production is still fluctuating and difficult. This is due to the difficulty of obtaining superior seeds in large quantities in a short time. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the type of cover and planting media on the vegetative growth of kepok banana (Musa Paradisiaca L.) during the acclimation period. This research uses a Divided Plot Design (RPT), the cover as the main plot and the planting medium as the sub-plot. The type of hood used is 16% UV plastic and 75% paranet while the planting media used is top soil + cocopeat, top soil + burnt husk and top soil + vermicompost (vermicompost) in a ratio of 1:2. Data analysis used one way ANOVA and continued with the Duncan test. The results obtained included that the hood treatment had a significant effect on the percentage of live seeds, plant length, stem diameter, leaf area and total chlorophyll. The 16% UV plastic cover type produces the best average results compared to 75% paranet. Planting media had a significant effect on leaf area and total chlorophyll and had no significant effect on other parameters. The interaction between the combination of cover and planting media is found in the parametersof leaf area and total chlorophyll.

Abstract

Thermoelectricity is a material that can convert heat energy into electrical energy. By installing a thermoelectric near the exhaust pipe, the heat emitted from the exhaust pipe will automatically be converted into electrical energy. This article discusses the testing of a power charging device that utilizes the heat from the vehicle's exhaust pipe, according to specific requirements. The process begins with the selection of materials and dimensions, followed by design, fabrication, assembly, and performance testing of the power charging device for mobile phones using the heat from the vehicle's exhaust pipe. The objective of this research is to create a device for charging mobile phones or power banks while analyzing the heat generated by the temperature changes. The methodology employed in this study includes experimental setup, device assembly, device testing, and device analysis. The results of the fabrication of the mobile phone charging device using rectangular copper specimens with dimensions of 80 mm in length, 40 mm in width, and 40 mm in height, along with four square-shaped Peltier modules measuring 40 mm x 40 mm x 4 mm each, indicate a voltage output of approximately ±1.5V per Peltier module. The analysis of the heat generated by the temperature changes during testing at 5000 rpm in an idle state resulted in a temperature difference (∆T) of 208.2 K. The voltage produced was 6.06 V, the current was 0.223 A, and the power was 1.35 watts. Testing the engine at 5000 rpm resulted in an electric current of 0.25 A and power output of 1.55 watts. The overall heat transfer rate was U = 23.915 W/℃, and the thermal resistance rate was ΣR = 20.433 oC/W.

Abstract

Electricity is one of the vital energy sources that is highly demanded by society. However, there is still an imbalance in the availability of electricity in Indonesia, especially in remote or isolated areas that are difficult to reach by the national power grid (PLN). To address this issue, one of the solutions that can be employed is Micro Hydro Power Plant (PLTMH), which is a renewable power generation system. In PLTMH, water turbines are utilized as a medium to generate rotation through the force exerted by the flowing water from a certain height. The water head plays a significant role in the performance of the water turbine, where a higher waterfall and impact on the turbine blades result in faster rotation and greater energy production. This study presents the experimental results of an Undershot Water Turbine made of Acrylic material with 8 blades and a blade angle of 15°. The experiment employed a water volume of 58 liters and a water gate opening of 3 cm. The results showed that the water turbine generated a power of 0.41584 watts, while the power produced by the flowing water was 1.23186 watts. The efficiency of the water turbine in this experiment reached 33%. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the proper utilization of an Undershot Water Turbine made of Acrylic material with an appropriate number and angle of blades can yield significant power output. Moreover, the achieved efficiency level of 33% demonstrates that the water turbine can serve as an efficient alternative for renewable electricity generation.
