Abstract

Abstract

This article discusses the problems of the shape of the earth: a comparative historical study of science and the perspective of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Among the scientific studies that are quite warm and test the existence of modern science in recent years is the debate between adherents of the spherical Earth theory (spherical and ellipsoid) and adherents of the flat Earth theory (flat earth). This issue becomes a very serious problem because each party not only shows scientific evidence, but also uses the arguments of the Qur'an and hadith to strengthen their arguments. From a scientific point of view, flat-Earthers argue against the spherical Earth theory such as the invisible curvature of the Earth based on Samuel Rowbotham's experiments, claims that NASA fabricated photos of the Earth and satellites are mere lies, there is no gravity, the north pole is the center of the Earth and so on. Other Meanwhile, in terms of syar’i texts, the commentators also differ in opinion about how the Earth actually looks like. What was put forward by adherents of flat earth was then responded by adherents of round Earth with a number of scientific arguments. In this paper, the authors present a comparison between the flat earth theory and rebuttals from adherents of the spherical earth theory in several approaches, such as the development of history, science, the study of astronomy and interpretation of the Qur'an.

Abstract

Klidang Lor Port was administratively established in 1975 after being separated from Pekalongan Port. Using historical methods, this article aims to analyze the development of facilities and activities at Batang Port from the New Order era to the Reformation period. In the period 1975-1988, fish production increased due to the development of motorboats which were previously traditional vessels. In 1988-1998, the port authority built a harbor pier and lighthouse to make it easier for ships to dock. Port facilities continued to be built until the 1998-2007 period. This article analyzes the productivity of fishermen around Klidang Lor Harbor along with the addition of port facilities. The research results show that one of the facilities at the port that has a significant impact is the Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU). Apart from that, the change in status from Fishing Port to Klidang Lor Coastal Fishing Port (KPBU) has also increased fishermen's productivity because port facilities continue to be developed.

Abstract

This article examines the process of degradation in Jepara’s ornamental woodcarving, driven primarily by internationalization. In this context, degradation refers to the decline or deterioration of the traditional Jepara woodcarving motifs as a result of modernization. Using historical methodology, the study reconstructs the factors that have contributed to the decline of Jepara’s ornamental woodcarving. The degradation process began with the arrival of foreign investors. On one hand, these investors facilitated the global marketing of Jepara carvings. However, this also required Jepara’s woodcarving products to conform to international market tastes, leading to a shift towards minimalist or even plain designs without traditional carvings. The changing consumer preferences gradually displaced the distinctive Jepara motifs, which were perceived as outdated, less appealing, and less competitive compared to foreign products. This decline in quality was further exacerbated by the export boom at the end of the 20th century. The findings reveal that the degradation of Jepara's ornamental motifs has significantly impacted the lives of local artisans, both in terms of the diminishing value and quality of their work, and in their struggle for survival by adapting to market demands

Abstract

This article examines the social revolution in Surakarta, characterized by the anti-autonomous movement during the early years of the Indonesian Republic's independence, leading to the collapse of the Mangkunegaran autonomous government. Using historical methods, the article explores the initially positive relationship between the Mangkunegaran Duchy and the people in the late colonial period, evident in various factors such as support for education, economic initiatives, and infrastructure development. However, this relationship took a downturn during the social revolution due to external factors. Surakarta became a hub for radical movements, particularly the Anti-Autonomous movement, as the Mangkunegaran Duchy made unfortunate decisions. The study's goal is to uncover how the Mangkunegaran Autonomous Government navigated through the social revolution in Surakarta, even though it eventually collapsed. The study findings indicate that, facing a crisis after declaring independence, the Mangkunegaran Duchy made a critical error by betraying the Indonesian Republic and seeking to reinstate Dutch rule. In response, the people initiated a revolutionary movement. Ultimately, the Mangkunegaran Duchy failed to overcome the crisis, making misguided decisions and becoming victims of the revolution. They struggled to uphold the traditional politics and economy of the palace, which had endured for centuries and had been passed down through generations.

Abstract

This study discusses the resistance of the Nahdlatul Ulama Party (Partai Nadhlatul Ulama/ PNU) towards the New Order government from 1967-1969. This study analyses the process of PNU's resistance to the New Order from 1967-1969. This study uses historical research methods, which consist of four stages of historical research methods, namely: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. Using the historical method, this study answers questions regarding the form of PNU's channel of resistance against the New Order and the results achieved against the government during the 1967-1969 period. This study uses the farming community-based resistance theory developed by James Scott. Resistance theory is used to explain the PNU's resistance to the New Order through various existing political channels. The New Order government began to show signs of being anti-democratic by imposing political policies that put pressure on political parties and intervening in the PNU organization's internal realm. PNU's resistance to the New Order government was a reaction to various government interventions and actions that attempted to minimize the role and influence of the PNU. This research resulted in an analysis of PNU's resistance to the New Order, which had a more solid institutional structure through various existing political channels. The PNU's resistance is understood as a self-defence effort against multiple interventions by the government on the PNU's political institutions.

Abstract

Goyor Woven Sarong Industry in North Wanarejan Village, Pemalang, was introduced by Tasman in 1942. At that time, the tool used was a non-machine weaving tool (ATBM). The people were then interested and followed in Tasman's footsteps to become weaving artisans. From 1942 to 1986, the existence of the handicraft industry was not constant; in 1987, the woven sarong industry started to rise, marked by the emergence of the home industry. In 2002, when North Wanarejan village was formed, the weaving industry developed significantly, marked by an increase in the number of weaving entrepreneurs. In 2017, North Wanareja was designated as a Tourism Village called “Kate Sargoy”. The Goyor woven sarong industry has had a positive economic and social impact in North Wanarejan. Many people work in the woven sarong industry. The workers earn higher wages than the Regional Minimum Wage (UMR) in Pemalang. They gain welfare while working in this sarong industry. The woven sarong industry also encourages the growth of a close relationship between employers and workers. The existence of this industry changes the women's role to become more productive.
