Abstract

Parkinson's disease is one of the major neurodegenerative diseases that affect the central nervous system, often leading to motor and cognitive impairments in affected individuals. A precise diagnosis is currently unreliable, plus there are no specific tests such as electroencephalography or blood tests to diagnose the disease. Several studies have focused on the voice-based classification of Parkinson's disease. These studies attempt to enhance the accuracy of classification models. However, a major issue in predictive analysis is the imbalance in data distribution and the low performance of classification algorithms. This research aims to improve the accuracy of speech-based Parkinson's disease prediction by addressing class imbalance in the data and building an appropriate model. The proposed new model is to perform class balancing using SMOTE and build an ensemble voting model. The research process is systematically structured into multiple phases: data preprocessing, sampling, model development utilizing a voting ensemble approach, and performance evaluation. The model was tested using voice recording data from 31 people, where the data was taken from OpenML. The evaluation results were carried out using stratified cross-validation and showed good model performance. From the measurements taken, this study obtained an accuracy of 97.44%, with a precision of 97.95%, recall of 97.44%, and F1-Score of 97.56%. This study demonstrates that implementing the soft-voting ensemble-SMOTE method can enhance the model's predictive accuracy.

Abstract

The Mobile Floating Structure (MFS) is an innovative floating wind turbine concept that utilizes a catamaran hull design to enhance mobility and operational efficiency. Unlike stationary platforms, the MFS can relocate to areas with higher wind energy density, making it a promising solution for optimizing wind energy harvesting in offshore environments. This study focuses on the preliminary design and energy production of the MFS. Maxsurf is used to analyze hydrostatics and assess the hydrodynamic performance of the MFS hull after the dimension of the MFS is determine with key considerations including rotor diameter and the weight of the wind turbine. Furthermore, four wind turbines are installed in the MFS. Those aspect were integrated into the design process to ensure realistic operational adaptability. As result. the resulting dimensions of the MFS were determined utilizing Maxsurf. Moreover, different with the previous study that use satellite data, the present study employs reanalysis data to estimate the energy density and power production of MFS. the energy density map is also produced in the present study to determine the monthly location of the MFS. The energy production of the MFS with four turbines has been calculated, and the energy production map is also drawn. Finally, the energy production of the MFS in the chosen location has also been estimated. The energy production map can be utilized to develop MFS in other location.

Abstract

This study investigates internal migration in Indonesia using logistic regression to analyze the impact of nine independent variables: social participation, social capital, risk-taking attitudes, age, marital status, gender, education level, mobile phone ownership, and internet access. The data were derived from the 5th Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS), which included 16,204 households and 50,418 individuals across 13 provinces. Respondents comprised of households’ head, their partners, and family members aged 15 years and older. The findings indicate that education level, internet access, marital status, and social capital significantly influence internal migration. Specifically, the contributions of these variables to explaining internal migration were 58.36% (OR: 1.401) for education level, 58.17% (OR: 1.398) for internet access, 51.63 % (OR: 1.068) for social capital, and 49.7% (OR: 0,987) for marital status, cumulatively explaining 1,55% of the variance in migration outcomes, with a Chi-square (X2) of 153,16 and p < 0.000. Based on these results, it is recommended that the government develop new economic growth centers, enhance social capital at the community level, and improve the information and communication technology infrastructure nationwide to optimize the benefits of internal migration for societal welfare.

Abstract

Law No. 6/2023, which ratifies Government Regulation in Lieu of Law No. 2/2022 on Job Creation, defines outsourcing as the delegation of part of work implementation to other companies through a written outsourcing agreement. This study aims to analyze the narrative structure of Indonesia’s outsourcing policy using the Narrative Policy Framework (NPF), focusing on key elements such as characters (heroes, villains, and victims), setting, plot, and moral of the story. A total of 132 news articles were randomly selected using the keyword “outsourcing” from online sources between November 2, 2020, and December 31, 2023. The data were analyzed using the Discourse Network Analysis (DNA) application. The resulting narrative portrays both workers and outsourcing companies as victims, while the government, outsourcing companies, and service user companies appear both as villains and heroes. The setting includes various regions in Indonesia and covers aspects of job creation and enhancement, workers’ income and welfare, internal company policies, and human resource management. The narrative plot highlights employment policies, associated challenges, and governance of labor regulations. The moral of the story emphasizes the need for effective labor regulations, strict enforcement of employment policies and laws, ongoing policy evaluation, and robust worker protection mechanisms. To foster synergy among stakeholders in shaping effective policies, the government must ensure clear communication of fair and accountable outsourcing principles and design a robust enforcement strategy to address systemic outsourcing issues.

Abstract

This study examines the accuracy of the qibla direction of mosques in the Petir subdistrict. From observations made using Google Earth, many mosques do not face the Kaaba. When investigating the mosques that were indicated to be misaligned, it was found that the mosque management boards had not yet made any efforts to remeasure the qibla direction. This serves as the basis for the researcher to investigate the accuracy of the qibla direction of mosques in Petir subdistrict. This study employs a field research method. Primary data sources include interviews with ten mosque management committee (DKM) chairpersons. Data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and direct measurement of the qibla direction of the mosques. For the accuracy test of the qibla direction, the researcher used the right-angle triangle method based on the shadow of the sun. After the data was obtained, it was analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The results of the study revealed that out of the ten mosques studied, only one mosque used the rubu’ mujayyab method to determine the qibla direction, while the other nine used a compass. The accuracy of the qibla direction in mosques in Petir Subdistrict shows considerable variation; one mosque is categorized as accurate, eight mosques are less accurate, and one mosque is inaccurate. This deviation occurs because during the initial measurement for mosque construction, accurate data and methods were not used. Therefore, prayers performed in mosques with inaccurate qibla directions are invalid according to the opinion of Imam Shafi'i. For this reason, it is necessary to adjust the qibla direction in accordance with the calibration results.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the popular English dialect which originated from the black people known as AAVE (African American Vernacular English), where its usage is not limited to the origin community only. Two focuses of this study will be on analysing the grammatical characteristics of AAVE and its underlying factors within the utterances from the three characters in Dumbo film, which are Timothy the mouse, the crow, and the clown by using qualitative method and the theory on AAVE dialect by Walt Wolfram and Rickford. This study applied the qualitative method and the data was gathered from coding character’s utterances. The results showed that the three characters used AAVE grammar, such as verb phrase, negation, and nominals. AAVE grammatical characteristics that were used by the characters are copula absence, completive done, sequential be done, other verbal phrase characteristics, ain’t, multiple negation, objective form them, and second person pronoun y’all. They also showed three factors on the AAVE grammar usage which are social class, age, and linguistic environment. These grammatical features are affected by the character’s class in the society as lower-worker group, character’s age which is in their adolescence, and the linguistic environment surrounding the character which depends on the level of familiarity felt by the characters regarding the topic or the person. The AAVE grammar alongside the factors found in the utterances of the three characters proved that they all represent the African American heritage which is the AAVE dialect despite having different races. The underlying factors influencing their utterances showed that a language will not be exempt from the various variables within the society.
