Abstract

The increasing need for activated carbon with biological raw materials in Indonesia is very rapid, supported by technological and industrial advances. Activated carbon is quite important in the industrial world which is used as an adsorbent. This research uses pineapple skin as a raw material for making activated carbon. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential and adsorption capacity of activated carbon from pineapple peels. Activated carbon is prepared by carbonating pineapple skin at 600oC for 5 minutes and then activated with HCl and NaOH activators by soaking for 24 hours. Furthermore, the absorption of Pb was tested using AAS to determine the absorption potential of pineapple peel activated carbon for heavy metalsThe test results showed that activated carbon using HCl had a yield of 9.2%, moisture content of 12.68%, and ash content of 35.88%. Meanwhile, activated carbon using NaOH had a yield of 9.5%, moisture content of 32.38%, and ash content of 21.03%. The adsorption capacities were 0.0045 mg/g (HCl) and 0.0053 mg/g (NaOH). These results indicate that pineapple peel has strong potential as a raw material for activated carbon in heavy metal adsorption, in accordance with SNI 06-3730-1995.

Abstract

This study investigates patterns of legal non-compliance in Islamic inheritance practices among rural Muslim communities in Petir District, Serang Regency, Indonesia, where the doctrinal authority of Farā’iḏ is often subordinated to customary logic and familial consensus. In many such settings, inheritance is distributed through informal arrangements that deviate from scriptural mandates, raising concerns about the erosion of Islamic legal norms and the role of religious figures in mediating these tensions. The research focuses on understanding the underlying drivers of this legal disobedience and analyzing how religious leaders respond to and interpret such practices within the community. Using a qualitative case study approach, the study draws on interviews and participant observation in two villages (Kubang Jaya and Kadugenep) and applies Bourdieu’s theory of habitus and Black’s theory of legal behavior to interpret the findings. The results show non-compliance is driven by strong customary expectations, gendered family roles, limited legal literacy, and practical constraints that hinder formal legal access. This study argues that these practices are not merely accidental or ignorant deviations but socially embedded responses to structural and normative dissonance. Religious leaders exhibit varied responses, ranging from strict textualism to pragmatic contextualization, often opting for ethical accommodation over legal enforcement. The study argues that inheritance’s legal disobedience reflects systemic social rationalities and negotiated religious authority. It contributes to ongoing discussions on Islamic legal pluralism by revealing how Farā’iḏ is accepted but selectively reconfigured to align with local moral economies and offers insight into strengthening legal literacy, religious guidance, and institutional responsiveness in Muslim-majority contexts.

Abstract

Protected areas play an important role in maintaining environmental sustainability, especially in rapidly developing urban areas. However, managing these protected areas faces significant challenges due to the pressure of space demands for housing and other community activities. This study examines the phenomenon of redevelopment within protected areas in Kelurahan Balaroa, Kota Palu, revealing that disaster-affected communities have chosen to rebuild their homes in these areas. Observations using Geographic Information System (GIS) methods show that approximately 3% of the total protected area is now occupied by buildings, covering around 1.57 hectares. The findings of this study identify the factors motivating the community to rebuild in these areas and explore the government’s efforts to address this issue. A comprehensive understanding of these factors is expected to form the basis for developing more effective policies for sustainable management of protected areas in the future.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Malacca leaves are one of the medical plants that can be used in traditional medicine. Malacca leaves contain several active compounds that can be effective in inhibiting fungal growth. This study aims to investigate the inhibition of n-hexane Malacca leaves extract on Microsporum canis growth in vitro.Materials and Methods: The method used in this study is Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion with 5 treatments, namely P1 (25% Malacca leaves n-hexane extract), P2 (50% Malacca leaves n-hexane extract), P3 (75% Malacca leaves n-hexane extract), P4 (control (+): ketoconazole) and P5 (control (-): carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) 1%) with 3 replications. The clear zone formed around the disc was measured using a caliper. Results : The results showed that there was no clear zone formed around the disks of the n-hexane extract of Malacca leaves. It can be concluded that the n-hexane extract of Malacca leaves could not inhibit the growth of Microsporum canis. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that the n-hexane extract of Malacca leaves, at concentrations of 25%, 50%, and 75%, does not exhibit antifungal activity against Microsporum canis in vitro, as evidenced by the absence of inhibition zones. Therefore, n-hexane may not be an effective solvent for extracting antifungal compounds from Malacca leaves against this fungal species.
