Abstract

As the elderly population grows, life expectancy increases. This poses significant challenges to their health, particularly in maintaining immune and digestive function. Zinc and synbiotics (a combination of probiotics and prebiotics) are two promising nutritional interventions for supporting the health of the elderly. This article reviews the effects of zinc and synbiotics, as well as their combination, on elderly health, with a primary focus on immune response, sarcopenia, and fatigue. Based on a systematic review of literature from PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, 600 articles were narrowed down to 10 selected articles (2017–2024) specifically involving randomized controlled trials, using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool and the PRISMA algorithm. The findings indicate that zinc supplementation has the potential to enhance the immune system and reduce inflammation, contributing to improved quality of life for the elderly. Meanwhile, synbiotics have been proven effective in improving gut health, addressing microbiota dysbiosis commonly found in the elderly, and enhancing gut microbiota balance that supports immune function. Zinc helps improve immune function and brain function, while synbiotics improve digestive health and reduce inflammation. When combined, both provide stronger and complementary effects in maintaining overall health in the elderly. Further research with stronger designs is needed to validate the benefits of both, and clinical recommendations for nutritional interventions in the elderly can be expanded based on these findings. Keywords: zinc, synbiotics, elderly, immune response

In order to improve the quality of health services available to the community, pharmaceutical services at community health centers are an important component in the implementation of health initiatives. Minister of Health Regulation No. 26 of 2020 concerning Standards for Pharmaceutical Services at Community Health Centers, which includes (management of pharmaceutical supplies and disposable medical supplies, clinical pharmacy services, and the facilities or infrastructure required to support pharmaceutical services at community health centers) represents the latest update to the standards for pharmaceutical services at community health centers, which have undergone several revisions to support these objectives. Determining the feasibility of implementing pharmaceutical service standards at the Bambu Mamuju Community Health Center in Mamuju Regency is the objective of this study. Using a checklist and in-depth interviews, this study combines a descriptive approach with an observational strategy. The study was conducted from December 2024 to January 2025. The population in this study was the pharmaceutical services at the Bambu Community Health Center in Mamuju District. The informants used in this study were the pharmacists in charge of the pharmacy at the Bambu Community Health Center. Based on the results of the study, the Bambu Mamuju Community Health Center in Mamuju Regency has implemented pharmaceutical services in accordance with the Bambu Mamuju Community Health Center standards with an average score of 84.2% in the good category, in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 26 of 2020. Clinical pharmacy services at the health center still need improvement, but the management of pharmaceutical supplies, single-use medical devices, facilities, and infrastructure is in line with the technical guidelines for pharmacy service standards. Abstract

This study explores the application of restorative justice as a new paradigm in the sociology of Islamic law in Indonesia, focusing on corruption cases and the responses of the two largest Islamic organizations: Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah. The study addresses the limitations of the retributive paradigm, which has long dominated the justice system but has proven insufficient in achieving substantive justice and social restoration. The aim is to examine the compatibility of restorative justice with Islamic legal principles and to analyze NU and Muhammadiyah’s perspectives and recommendations on its implementation in combating corruption. This research employs a qualitative method with normative-sociological approaches through literature analysis and in-depth interviews. Findings reveal that restorative justice aligns closely with Islamic values such as sulh (reconciliation), islah (social reform), maslahah (public interest), and ‘afw (forgiveness). NU emphasizes moral and fiqh-based aspects, requiring full restitution and moral accountability, while Muhammadiyah advocates structural legal reforms, anti-corruption education, and integrity monitoring. The implication is that integrating restorative justice into the Indonesian Islamic legal framework could enhance social justice, legal efficiency, and public acceptance—provided that implementation is supported by strict regulations and transparent oversight mechanisms.

Abstract

Background: Endophytic fungi live in plant tissues and are usually not harmful to their host plants. One of the host plants for endophytic fungi is bush grape leaves (Cayratia trifolia L.). Objective: The research aimed to determine the molecular characteristics of the endophytic fungi isolates selected IDGG 3 of bush grape leaves. Methods: The test used the polymerase chain reaction method to determine the species-level characteristics using internal transcribed spacers (ITS) 1 and 4. The DNA band was successfully amplified with 500 base pairs with 3000 markers. Results: The fungi isolates selected IDGG 3 of bush grape leaves in molecular identification based on the Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) analysis on Genebank NCBI that the IDGG 3 samples of bush grape leaves had a similarity level of 99%, namely Fusarium incarnatum JL5-2, Fusarium incarnatum JL3-4- 1, Fusarium incarnatum CBB-2, Fusarium incarnatum JL3-3, Fusarium incarnatum CBA-3, Fusarium incarnatum CBB-1, Fusarium incarnatum CBA-2, Fusarium chlamydospore, Fusarium cf. Incarnatum, and Fusarium sp. Conclusion: The results of the molecular characteristics of the selected endophytic fungi isolate IDGG 3 galing-galing leaves (Cayratia trifoliata L.) have the closest degree of kinship with the species Fusarium incarnatum JL3-4-1. The importance of the PCR method in the molecular characterization of endophytic fungi, as well as opening opportunities for further exploration of the biotechnological potential of endophytic fungi from Cayratia trifolia L.

Abstract

Pathogenic Escherichia coli is a type of bacteria that has the ability to cause disease in hosts, including humans and animals, although in general E. coli acts as a normal flora in the digestive tract. This study aimed to detect the presence of pathogenic E. coli in the intestines of ducks sold at Lambaro Market, Aceh Besar. E. coli is a normal flora bacteria in the digestive tract of animals and humans, but some strains are pathogenic and can cause zoonotic diseases. The presence of pathogenic E. coli in poultry products has the potential to be a source of infection for humans through consumption of contaminated food. This study used 15 duck intestine samples obtained from cecum, to identify the presence of pathogenic E.coli. The results showed that 13 samples produced clear colonies on Sorbitol MacConky Agar (SMAC), indicating the inability of bacteria to ferment sorbitol, which correlated to the presence of pathogenic E. coli. In contrast, two samples showed pink colonies indicating the presence of nonpathogenic E. coli. The conclusion of this study was the cecum of ducks sold at Lambaro Market, Aceh Besar positive for pathogenic E. coli.
