Abstract

The rapid pace of social and cultural change necessitates a re-evaluation of the epistemological foundations of Guidance and Counseling, particularly within multicultural societies. This article aims to critically examine the epistemology of counselling by emphasizing the importance of contextual and reflective approaches grounded in local values. Employing a qualitative method through a literature review, data were collected using documentation techniques and analyzed through content analysis of relevant academic sources. The findings reveal that the dominance of Western paradigms in counselling epistemology needs to be complemented with indigenous approaches that are more adaptive to socio cultural dynamics. This study contributes theoretically to the development of counselling as a humanistic and culturally sensitive discipline, while also encouraging curriculum reform and inclusive counseling practices. Future research is recommended to empirically validate these conceptual findings through field studies and real world counseling practice.

Abstract

In the counseling process, transfer and countertransfer are important psychological phenomena. When clients unconsciously project their feelings, hopes, or past experiences onto the counselor, this is called transference. On the other hand, the counselor's emotional reaction to the client which is influenced by the counselor's personal experiences is called countertransference. In a counseling relationship, this phenomenon can be both a challenge and an opportunity. This article discusses the ideas, dynamics, and effects of transference and countertransference on counseling effectiveness. The focus is on how important self-awareness, reflection skills, and supervision are to managing these two phenomena in a beneficial way. To find important problems that influence clients in managing transference, counselors must understand the client's emotional and behavioral patterns. To avoid mistakes that can occur in the counseling relationship, managing countertransference requires that counselors be aware of their own biases and emotional reactions.

Abstract

The therapeutic relationship is at the core of effective counseling, where a strong alliance between counselor and client builds trust and supports positive change. This process involves empathy, mutual understanding and openness. However, building an effective relationship is often faced with various barriers, both on the part of the counselor and the client, such as communication gaps, resistance, or differences in values. Contextual barriers, such as cultural differences or limited facilities, can also affect the quality of this relationship. Counselors should be able to overcome such barriers with a flexible approach, improve interpersonal skills, and demonstrate empathy and active listening. In addition, it is important to build clients' trust by creating an environment that is safe and sensitive to their cultural background. The purpose of this article is to discuss the barriers in the therapeutic relationship and strategies to overcome them, with the aim of increasing the effectiveness of the counseling process and providing greater positive impact for clients. The research method in this article uses a literature study which is to obtain references that are in accordance with the direction and purpose of this article. Through this article, it is expected to be able to know and expand the reading on how to build therapeutic relationships in counseling.

Abstract

The urgency of strengthening the philosophical foundation in Guidance and Counseling (BK) is increasing along with the complexity of adolescent psychosocial problems in the modern era. This article aims to critically analyze the ontological and epistemological dimensions in the science of guidance and counseling and its contribution to reflective counseling practices. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach through a literature study of relevant academic sources. The results of the study show that ontological understanding of human nature and epistemology related to sources of knowledge in counseling can enrich contextual and meaningful counseling practices. The integration of Stoicism philosophy - with values such as self-control and acceptance of reality - was found to be effective in helping adolescents manage stress. This study contributes to the development of a more philosophical, spiritual and locally value-adaptive conceptual framework for counseling. The study recommends empirical exploration to test the effectiveness of this approach across different cultural contexts.

Abstract

Students, including vocational school students, are vulnerable to traumatic experiences (TE). Students still look normal but experience stress that interferes with learning activities. TE can be observed through positive psychological attributes such as self-love (SL), compassion, gratitude, and happiness. This study aimed to explore the gender-specific views of vocational school students regarding their TE to provide results that can be the basis for the implementation of gender-differentiated interventions in schools. A cross-sectional survey using quantitative methods was conducted and involved 498 vocational school students in West Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were collected using questionnaires with reliability from the range of 0.74-1 through reliability analysis and also analyzed in a multi-group setting through structural equation model (SEM) on SmartPLS 3 application. Importance-performance map analysis (IPMA) method was also used to assess the functionality of variables in the study. The results showed that positive psychological attributes interact, relate, and have a role in the TE of vocational students, including in the evaluation of gender analysis. The results of the study can be a reference to reduce the impact of TE for vocational students, especially by gender-specific vocational schools. For future research, TE can be studied with other positive psychological attribute variables over a longer period of time.
