Abstract

This study examines how Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) adherents in Minangkabau negotiate and transform their religious traditions within a socio-cultural context in which NU lacks symbolic dominance. NU is widely known for integrating Islamic tradition with local culture, yet this accommodative model does not operate uniformly across regions. In Minangkabau, the supremacy of adat basandi syarak, syarak basandi Kitabullah shapes religious legitimacy and constrains the public expression of NU traditions. This qualitative field study employs an interpretive–critical paradigm, using in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis in West Pasaman Regency. The findings reveal that NU religious practices are selectively enacted and symbolically moderated to preserve social harmony. NU identity is also mobilized instrumentally for social, political, and educational purposes, functioning as flexible symbolic capital. Additionally, pesantren traditions are transmitted to younger generations primarily through ethical values, leadership development, and civic engagement rather than through consistent ritual practice. These dynamics produce what this study conceptualizes as “half-hearted devotion,” a strategic form of adaptive religiosity rather than religious decline. This research contributes to studies of lived Islam and Islam Nusantara by highlighting negotiation and ambivalence as mechanisms of continuity and by recommending a balance between flexibility and efforts to sustain embodied religious traditions.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the adolescent wirid program at Payakumbuh City High School using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) model as a comprehensive analysis framework for the policy of fostering students' religious character. This program is an initiative of the West Sumatra Provincial Government in strengthening the morals of the younger generation in the digital era. The study used a quantitative approach with an evaluative method on 354 grade XI students selected from a population of 3,150 students through the Slovin formula with an error rate of 5%. Data were collected through Likert scale questionnaires, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results of the study show that the context aspect of the program is very relevant to the spiritual needs of students, the input aspect is considered quite adequate even though it requires method innovation, the process aspect runs consistently but still faces participation obstacles, and the product aspect shows a positive impact on worship discipline and the formation of religious character. Overall, the youth wirid program is considered effective and feasible to continue with strengthening monitoring, improving the quality of presenters, and continuous collaboration between schools, families, and communities.

Abstract

Although studies on the education of Islamic values have been widely conducted, research that specifically discusses the relationship between understanding Islamic values and awareness of Muslimah dress among junior high school students remains relatively limited. This study aims to analyze the relationship between understanding Islamic values and awareness of Muslimah dress among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Bukittinggi. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research subjects consisted of 145 eighth-grade Muslimah students selected using the total sampling technique. Data were collected through a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability, which included 24 statement items for the variable of understanding Islamic values and 33 statement items for the variable of awareness of Muslimah dress. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation with the assistance of SPSS version 20. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between understanding Islamic values and awareness of Muslimah dress, with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.623 at a significance level of 0.05. The coefficient of determination showed that understanding Islamic values contributed 38.9% to awareness of Muslimah dress, while the remainder was influenced by other factors outside this study. These findings emphasize that understanding Islamic values has an important role in shaping students’ awareness of Muslimah dress. The implications of this study indicate the importance of strengthening the teaching of Islamic values in schools to shape religious character, while also enriching the study of Islamic Religious Education regarding the relationship between the cognitive aspect of religiosity and students’ religious behavior.

Abstract

Although the relationship between self-efficacy and learning outcomes has been widely discussed in various studies, studies that specifically examine the relationship between self-efficacy and learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education and Character Education (PAI and BP) among vocational high school students remain limited. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and PAI and BP learning outcomes among students at SMK Swasta Pembangunan Bukittinggi. This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design, involving 60 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire to measure self-efficacy and score documentation to measure learning outcomes, and were then analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation technique. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between self-efficacy and learning outcomes, with a correlation coefficient of 0.264 and a significance value of 0.042 (< 0.05). These findings indicate that students with higher self-efficacy tend to have better learning outcomes, although the level of relationship found was in the low category. This study contributes to strengthening self-efficacy theory in the context of PAI and BP learning and broadens understanding of the role of psychological factors in the achievement of vocational high school students’ learning outcomes. The conclusion of this study confirms that self-efficacy is one of the factors that contributes to students’ learning success. Therefore, teachers and educational institutions need to develop learning strategies that can enhance students’ self-efficacy. The implications of this study include theoretical contributions to the field of educational psychology and practical contributions to the development of character-based learning, while also opening opportunities for further research on other factors that influence student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Self-efficacy has received attention in various educational studies because it is believed to play a role in increasing students’ motivation, persistence, and academic achievement. However, studies that specifically discuss the contribution of self-efficacy to Al-Qur’an Hadith learning outcomes at the madrasah tsanawiyah level remain relatively limited, particularly in the context of MTsN 4 Padang Pariaman. This study aims to analyze the contribution of self-efficacy to the Al-Qur’an Hadith learning outcomes of Grade VIII students at MTsN 4 Padang Pariaman. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The research participants consisted of 50 students selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a self-efficacy questionnaire and documentation of Al-Qur’an Hadith learning outcome scores, then analyzed through descriptive statistics, normality testing, homogeneity testing, linearity testing, Pearson Product Moment correlation testing, partial testing or t-test, and coefficient of determination testing with the assistance of SPSS version 26. The results showed that students’ self-efficacy level was in the high category and their Al-Qur’an Hadith learning outcomes were in the good category. However, the hypothesis testing results showed that self-efficacy did not contribute significantly to Al-Qur’an Hadith learning outcomes, with a significance value of 0.406 (> 0.05), a correlation coefficient of 0.120, and a coefficient of determination of 0.014. These findings indicate that Al-Qur’an Hadith learning outcomes are influenced not only by self-efficacy but also by other factors that were not analyzed in this study. The conclusion of this study affirms that self-efficacy has not become a main predictor of Al-Qur’an Hadith learning outcomes in the context of this study. The implications of this study contribute to the development of Islamic educational psychology studies and serve as input for madrasahs in designing more comprehensive learning strategies to improve students’ learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the strategies employed by Islamic Religious Education teachers to foster tolerance and ukhuwwah Islamiyyah (Islamic brotherhood) in school settings. The study is motivated by the growing need to strengthen harmonious social relations and mutual respect among students in increasingly diverse educational environments. Using a qualitative library research design with a content analysis approach, data were collected from scholarly journals, books, conference proceedings, and other relevant academic sources. The analysis involved data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Islamic Religious Education teachers can promote tolerance and Islamic brotherhood through exemplary behavior, habituation of respectful interactions, collaborative learning activities, moral guidance, multicultural educational practices, and the integration of Islamic values derived from the Quran, Hadith, and exemplary narratives. The literature also highlights the importance of cultivating compassion, cooperation, deliberation, and social responsibility within the school community. These strategies contribute to the development of students' social and moral character, enabling them to respect diversity and maintain harmonious relationships. This study underscores the strategic role of Islamic Religious Education in fostering inclusive and value-based educational environments grounded in the principles of rahmatan lil alamin.

Abstract

Religious moderation has become increasingly important in addressing the challenges of contemporary social life shaped by digital technology, rapid information exchange, and intensified intercultural and interreligious interactions. This study examines the role of religious moderation in fostering tolerance amid digital diversity and explores the challenges posed by the spread of intolerant, provocative, and radical content on digital platforms. Employing a qualitative library research design with a content analysis approach, data were collected from scholarly journals, books, policy documents, and other relevant literature on religious moderation and digital social dynamics. The findings indicate that religious moderation contributes significantly to promoting social harmony through the reinforcement of tolerance, interfaith dialogue, inclusivity, and responsible digital literacy. The study also reveals that hate speech, social polarization, misinformation, and the misuse of social media constitute major obstacles to the development of tolerant digital communities. Furthermore, effective implementation of religious moderation requires collaborative efforts among educational institutions, governments, religious leaders, and civil society organizations. The study concludes that religious moderation serves as a critical framework for strengthening social cohesion, preserving national unity, and fostering peaceful coexistence within increasingly diverse digital societies.

Abstract

The surau is a traditional Islamic educational institution that has a vital role in shaping the character and religious identity of the Minangkabau people. However, modernisation and social change have affected its continued function as an educational centre. This study aims to analyse the transformation of the surau from the classical period to the modern era, highlighting changes in its institutional structure, learning methods, and social function. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review with a qualitative-descriptive approach, which involves searching various scientific sources from books, articles, and local documents. The results show that the Surau has undergone a shift in role from a community-based informal educational institution to a centre for moral and spiritual guidance that is more adaptive to the times. Despite undergoing modernisation, Surau has retained its core values of simplicity, togetherness, and spirituality. These findings prove that Surau has high resilience in facing social changes without losing its identity. This research makes an important contribution to the development of local wisdom-based Islamic education by offering an integrative model between tradition and modernity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of a competency-based curriculum (CBC), describe curriculum innovations, evaluate its contribution to student employability, and identify the factors supporting and hindering its implementation at SMK Negeri 1 Baso, Agam Regency, West Sumatra. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method combined with library research. Data were collected through interviews, observations, document analysis, and a literature review, followed by descriptive-analytical and thematic synthesis analysis. The findings indicate that SMK Negeri 1 Baso has developed its curriculum through alignment with 30 industry partners, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum, project-based learning, teaching factory initiatives—particularly within the Culinary Arts program as a center of excellence—and a 5–6-month work experience (PKL) program. These innovations have contributed positively to enhancing students' hard skills, 21st-century soft skills, and technological adaptability. Supporting factors include government policy support, teacher competence (20 certified teachers, 15 with industry certification), and robust industry-academia partnerships. Conversely, the primary constraints include limited facilities and infrastructure—specifically within the Light Vehicle Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Culinary Arts programs; restricted industrial access due to geographical location; and the uneven distribution of project-based learning training among faculty members
