Abstract

This study aims to examine how to use science-based digital teaching materials as an educational tool on how to reduce the impact of disasters through monitoring and literature review. Previous research has typically discussed digital media and disaster education separately, leaving gaps in integrating the two into a unified whole. This study aims to fill this gap by analyzing 6 relevant scientific articles, using a qualitative literature review approach that includes content analysis and systematic thematic development. The results indicate that  the use of science-based digital teaching materials successfully improves conceptual understanding, scientific literacy skills, and disaster preparedness. Three key findings were found: media such as simulations and videos facilitate better conceptual understanding because they use images; incorporating examples from the surrounding environment enhances students' awareness and enables them to make better decisions; and the use of digital platforms makes learning more engaging and flexible. However, implementation still faces obstacles due to limited access to technology, teachers' inadequate digital skills, and the limited availability of materials based on local wisdom. Thus, digital teaching materials that apply scientific principles have great potential as effective disaster mitigation educational tools, but require structured and context-appropriate development.

Abstract

Mental health is a crucial aspect in shaping the professional readiness of prospective teachers. However, this issue remains underexplored in teacher education, despite the complex emotional and academic pressures faced by students. This study aims to describe the perceptions of prospective teachers regarding mental health, in terms of their knowledge, experiences, and expectations for institutional support. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach involving 630 prospective teachers from various semesters. The instruments used consisted of a Likert scale, binary (Yes/No) questions, and open-ended questions. Data were analyzed using descriptive techniques, including mean scores, frequency distribution, and thematic analysis. The findings revealed that students demonstrated a high level of awareness regarding the importance of mental health (mean score = 4.85), yet not all felt comfortable discussing the issue or seeking help when experiencing psychological pressure. A total of 63.17% of respondents had experienced or knew someone who experienced mental health problems, but only 37.14% felt they had adequate resources to cope. Student suggestions included the need for mental health education, counseling services, and awareness campaigns within the campus environment. These findings underscore the importance of integrating mental health education into teacher training curricula. Systematic efforts are needed to enhance literacy, reduce stigma, and foster a more supportive campus environment for the psychological well-being of future educators.

Abstract

Mental health awareness is a crucial issue in the higher education ecosystem, given the high academic, social, and personal pressures experienced by students. This study aims to analyze the level of student awareness of mental health in higher education through a survey titled "Mental Health Matters." The research method used a quantitative approach, distributing questionnaires to students from various study programs. Data were analyzed descriptively to describe students' knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions regarding mental health and the importance of accessing campus counseling services. The survey results indicate that most respondents have a good understanding of mental health, but still encounter barriers such as social stigma and a lack of openness in seeking professional help. These findings emphasize the need to improve mental health literacy, strengthen social support within the campus environment, and the role of higher education institutions in providing more accessible services. This research is expected to provide a basis for developing mental health promotion programs in higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of academic activities on students' stress levels and mental health. The background of this study stems from the increasing academic demands that include assignment loads, tight class schedules, pressure to achieve grades, and various organizational and social responsibilities that students must face. The research method used a quantitative approach with a survey design, conducted by distributing a Google Form questionnaire to 60 respondents from various faculties at the University of Mataram and its surrounding areas. The research instrument consisted of an academic stress scale that included indicators of assignment demands, class schedules, grade pressure, time management skills, and mental well-being. The results showed that academic stress levels were in the moderately high category, with the highest average score for the tight class schedule indicator (4.03). The most dominant factors affecting student mental health were the large number of assignments and strict academic demands, followed by time management difficulties, economic pressure, and the pressure to achieve grades. Furthermore, social support was recorded as still low, exacerbating the academic stress experienced. These findings indicate the need for an evaluation of the learning system and strengthening counseling services to improve student mental well-being. This research is expected to serve as a reference for universities in designing more humane academic policies and supporting student mental health.

Abstract

The development of critical thinking skills is a strategic agenda in biology education, particularly in preparing prospective teachers capable of integrating scientific analysis with real ecological contexts. However, learning that remains oriented towards classrooms and limited laboratories has not fully strengthened students' evaluative and argumentative abilities. Field learning based on M. reinwardt ecotourism offers a contextual approach that places students in authentic observation and analysis situations. This study aims to test the effectiveness of ecotourism-based field learning in improving the critical thinking skills (CTS) of Biology Education students. The study used a quasi-experimental pretest–posttest control-group design. The experimental group implemented the Ecotourism-Based Field learning Model (EBFL) by studying the ecology and conservation of M. reinwardt in the Gunung Tunak and Kerandangan Nature Tourism Parks, while the control group followed a conventional laboratory practicum. The research instrument was a CTS test validated by experts, and the model's effectiveness was analysed using N-Gain and the Mann–Whitney test. The results showed a significant difference in CTS improvement between the experimental and control groups, as well as a substantive influence of field learning on higher-level cognitive achievement. These findings strengthen the development of an ecotourism-based contextual science learning model as a pedagogical innovation in the education of prospective biology teachers.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed university students' study patterns, particularly regarding information access and learning strategies. This preliminary survey study aims to explore students' learning habits in the digital era and identify the benefits, challenges, and strategies employed in managing technology-based learning. This study employed a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey design, involving 65 students from various universities, who were selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using an instrument comprising Likert scales, multiple-choice options, checklists, and short-answer questions. The results indicate that students perceive digital learning positively, with most mean scores exceeding 3.00. Key findings include high scores for using the internet for supplementary explanations (3.98), learning flexibility (3.91), and rapid comprehension via gadgets (3.68). Many respondents reported studying for 1–2 hours daily (47.7%) and identified Google Scholar (44.6%) and YouTube (40%) as their primary learning resources. Smartphones were the most commonly used devices (61.5%), while home or boarding houses were the preferred locations for study (81.5%). The most significant advantages cited were ease of access to materials (73.8%) and time flexibility (70.8%). However, students faced challenges, primarily concentration distractions from notifications and social media (56.9%) and unstable internet connections (56.9%). To maintain focus, the most common strategies were limiting smartphone usage (55.4%) and establishing a regular study schedule (47.7%). Overall, digital learning is considered effective if students can effectively manage their devices, time, and learning environments. These findings provide a comprehensive overview of student study patterns and offer a foundation for developing more adaptive digital learning strategies in higher education.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology in modern education offers flexibility while presenting technical challenges that influence student engagement. This study aims to analyze the intensity of online application usage, student learning motivation, and the correlation between these two variables among students at the University of Mataram. A quantitative approach with a correlational survey design was employed, collecting data from 64 students via Likert-scale questionnaires in November 2025. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation. The findings indicate that the intensity of online application usage falls within the moderate category, with Google Meet and Zoom being the most dominant platforms. Similarly, student learning motivation is categorized as fair, influenced by ease of use and the quality of academic interaction. Pearson correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between online application usage intensity and student learning motivation (r = 0.41; p < 0.05), representing a moderate correlation strength. These results underscore that meaningful and intensive use of online applications has the potential to enhance student motivation, although technical and pedagogical factors remain critical in determining the overall effectiveness of digital learning.
