Abstract

Purpose - This study was motivated by the prevalence of online ta‘āruf practices that rely on the exchange of photos and visualizations of women's bodies, giving rise to debates about the limits of viewing the ‘awrah in Islamic law. This study aims to analyze this permissibility through a reinterpretation of the hadiths on khiṭbah and to formulate normative and ethical boundaries for viewing women's ‘awrah that are relevant to the characteristics of digital media in online ta‘āruf practices. Methods - This qualitative study used a normative-contextual approach. Primary data were sourced from the Instagram social media account @taaruf. co.id as an online ta‘āruf service provider and khiṭbah hadiths. Secondary data included fiqh literature, hadith commentary, and contemporary studies on digital ethics and online ta‘āruf . Data analysis was conducted through tracing the 'illat (legal rationale), contextual reading, and normative-ethical analysis of online ta’aruf practices. Findings – This study found a new form of online ta‘āruf practice characterized by repeated visual exchanges, image storage, and visual consumption that is not always accompanied by a clear commitment to marriage. The reinterpretation of the khiṭbah hadiths was carried out by repositioning the 'illat of the permissibility of seeing, from mere visual permissibility to a limited means for making the decision to marry and preventing future regret. Based on this repositioning, this study formulates normative boundaries for viewing women's ‘awrah that emphasize the connection between permissibility and the goal of marriage. This study reformulates the ethics of viewing women’s ‘awrah in online ta‘āruf, which includes respect for women's karāmah, moral responsibility, goal orientation, and self-control in the digital space. Contribution/limitations - This study contributes to the development of contemporary Islamic legal ethics by offering a relational ethical framework for users and online ta‘āruf platforms, although it is still limited to normative studies and requires reinforcement through further empirical research.

Abstract

Human trafficking conducted through the modus of illegal migrant workers remains a serious issue within the Indonesian legal system. In practice, migrant workers who are recruited and deployed through non-procedural mechanisms are often not recognized as victims of trafficking in persons, but instead are treated merely as administrative violators of labor and migration regulations. This approach results in inadequate legal protection for victims and undermines the effectiveness of criminal accountability for perpetrators. This research aims to analyze the regulation of legal protection for victims of trafficking in persons with the modus of illegal migrant workers and to examine criminal law policy in constructing the criminal responsibility of perpetrators. The research employs a normative juridical method using statutory and conceptual approaches. The findings indicate the existence of normative ambiguity and normative conflict between Law Number 18 of 2017 on the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers and Law Number 21 of 2007 on the Eradication of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons. These inconsistencies adversely affect the fulfillment of victims’ rights and weaken victim-oriented protection. Therefore, regulatory harmonization and a criminal law policy approach that prioritizes victim protection are necessary to ensure legal certainty and justice.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the sociological approach in Qur’anic interpretation through the double movement method developed by Fazlur Rahman. The focus of the study is directed toward three main issues: first, the methodological framework of the double movement in the process of Qur’anic interpretation; second, the ways in which this method represents a sociological approach to the Qur’an; and third, the extent to which the double movement method is relevant for analyzing contemporary social problems. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library-based research design, using primary data from Fazlur Rahman’s works and scholarly journal articles that discuss contextual and social approaches to Qur’anic interpretation. Data analysis is conducted through descriptive-analytical techniques and contextual hermeneutical analysis. The findings indicate that the double movement method has a systematic methodological framework, consisting of an interpretive movement from the socio-historical context of revelation toward the formulation of universal moral principles, followed by an applicative movement that projects these principles into contemporary social contexts. This method represents a sociological approach to the Qur’an by emphasizing the analysis of social realities as a fundamental basis for understanding the text, thereby positioning the Qur’an as a revelation that actively engages with human social problems. Furthermore, the double movement method is highly relevant for analyzing various modern social issues, such as social justice, pluralism, gender relations, and public ethics, as it effectively bridges the normative values of the Qur’an with the dynamics of modern society.

Abstract

Digital reading has become ubiquitous in educational settings, yet its impact on learning outcomes remains complex and context-dependent. This systematic literature review synthesizes evidence from nine open-access articles published by Taylor & Francis between 2021 and 2025, focusing on digital reading within the education subject area. Adhering to PRISMA 2020 guidelines, the study employed a rigorous screening process to identify relevant research, followed by thematic synthesis to extract key characteristics, outcomes, and implications. The analysis reveals four predominant themes shaping current discourse. First, mode effects highlight inequality-sensitive patterns in large-scale assessments, suggesting that digital formats may exacerbate existing achievement gaps if not carefully managed. Second, metacognitive navigation and strategic processing emerge as critical determinants of comprehension, emphasizing the need for learners to actively regulate their engagement with digital texts. Third, the review examines digital early-literacy ecosystems, underscoring the importance of home literacy supports, shared digital storybook reading, and established quality principles for children’s digital picture books in fostering foundational skills. Fourth, critical–ecological perspectives reframe digital reading through lenses of attention, curriculum design, and social justice, advocating for a holistic approach to future literacy practices. The findings indicate that benefits of digital reading are most pronounced when instructional scaffolds, high-quality design, and equitable access are explicitly prioritized. Conversely, risks such as superficial processing arise when efficiency-driven logics dominate without adequate support for deep comprehension. Consequently, this study proposes targeted implications for pedagogy, interface design, assessment frameworks, and future research directions. By integrating these insights, educators and policymakers can better navigate the challenges of digital literacy, ensuring that technological integration supports rather than hinders equitable and profound learning experiences in diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted based on a research report examining rental price determination practices at Nisma Collection, a traditional clothing rental business in Gorontalo City. The research findings indicate that rental pricing is not solely based on cost and profit calculations, but is also influenced by social and local cultural values, particularly the Huyula value, which emphasizes togetherness and empathy. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide assistance to MSME actors in managing flexible rental pricing while maintaining business sustainability. The methods employed include socialization activities, participatory discussions, and direct assistance related to simple financial record-keeping, cost evaluation, and rental price determination based on social values and economic rationality. The results of the activity show an improvement in business actors’ understanding of balancing social values and financial aspects in determining rental prices. This activity is expected to serve as a research-based community service model for the development of MSMEs grounded in local wisdom.

Abstract

Abstract

The Koperasi Merah Putih is designed as an instrument of people-centered economic development that emphasizes the principles of mutual cooperation, participation, and village self-reliance. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 9 of 2025 on the Koperasi Merah Putih in realizing the welfare of village communities. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, using in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation studies. Data are analyzed through the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which consists of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the government policy has a clear direction and is relevant to village needs, although consistency of implementation at the local level varies. Cooperative institutions have been formally established, yet they still face constraints related to managerial capacity and weak accountability. Community participation in cooperatives remains relatively low, influenced by limited financial literacy and a lack of sense of ownership. From an economic empowerment perspective, cooperatives provide access to capital, entrepreneurship training, and market opportunities, although the benefits have not been evenly distributed. Tangible impacts include increased member income, reduced dependence on moneylenders, and strengthened social solidarity, even though these effects are still limited to certain areas. Therefore, this study affirms that the success of Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2025 is strongly determined by the strengthening of cooperative governance, enhancement of human resource capacity, community participation, and sustained regulatory and financial support. The Koperasi Merah Putih has significant potential to become a driving force for village development if managed in a transparent, accountable, participatory, and sustainable manner.

Abstract

The Utilization of Canva-Based Digital Literacy Posters in Indonesian Language Learning for Grade X Students at UPT SMKN 1 Sinjai. This study aims to describe the planning, implementation, and assessment of the use of Canva-based digital literacy posters in Indonesian language learning for tenth-grade students at UPT SMKN 1 Sinjai. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on systematically portraying the process of implementing digital poster media within the learning context. Research data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that during the planning stage, teachers and researchers collaborated in developing teaching modules, selecting literacy themes, and designing digital posters using Canva. During the implementation stage, the posters were used as preliminary reading materials to increase students’ reading interest and to facilitate their understanding of information through concise texts and engaging visuals. In the assessment stage, teachers conducted formative evaluations through oral question-and-answer sessions to measure students’ comprehension, confidence, and active participation in responding to the poster content. Overall, the use of Canva-based digital literacy posters proved effective in enhancing student engagement, strengthening their understanding of texts, and creating a more interactive learning environment. Furthermore, the research findings align with Paul Gilster’s concept of digital literacy, which emphasizes the ability to understand, evaluate, and critically interpret digital information. Therefore, Canva-based digital posters are suitable for use as alternative learning media that are relevant to the characteristics of vocational high school students and the demands of 21st-century literacy.
