Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) serves as a key indicator for assessing public health at the population level. The infection of children and toddlers with TB often stems from the lack of involvement by family members in adhering to proper hygiene practices aimed at preventing TB transmission. Objective: This study aimed to assess the impact of peer group support and motivational interviewing on parental behaviors in preventing TB transmission among children residing in the same household as a TB patient. Methods: Employing a quasi-experimental design (pre-post test with a single group), this study involved 30 parents selected through accidental sampling. The independent variables included peer group support and motivational interviewing, while the dependent variable was parental behavior concerning TB prevention in children. Data collection utilized a questionnaire assessing parents’ behaviors in preventing TB in children, which was then analyzed using the paired t-test.Results: The implementation of peer group support and motivational interviewing significantly influenced the enhancement of parental behaviors in preventing TB in children (p < 0.001).Conclusion: Both peer group support and motivational interviewing demonstrated their efficacy in altering parental behavior to prevent TB in children residing with a TB patient. These interventions could be effectively incorporated by nurses to complement ongoing tuberculosis treatment therapies.

Abstract

Adolescent girls have wide access to menarche-related information in the digital era; however, the validity of the information they receive may vary and lead to unpreparedness in facing these changes. In this context, social support from parents, peers, and the surrounding environment becomes an important aspect in shaping adolescents' readiness to face menarche. This study aimed to determine the relationship between social support and adolescents’ readiness to face menarche in the digital era. This research used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The study involved 102 female students from grades IV to VI at an elementary school in Surabaya, selected through a proportional random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of respondents (70.6%) received social support, especially informational support (78.4%), with mothers being the primary source of support (65 respondents), and TikTok as the most popular digital platform (39 respondents). Most respondents (79.4%) were categorized as ready to face menarche, with the readiness of pre-menarche students (83.1%) being higher than those who had already menstruated (73.0%). The chi-square test showed a significant relationship between social support and adolescents’ readiness to face menarche, with a p-value of 0.005 (p < 0.05). Social support plays an important role in increasing adolescents’ readiness to face menarche in the digital era. Therefore, the role of families, schools, and the social environment in providing education and emotional support is essential to help adolescents face menarche with greater confidence.

Data analysis to determine the difference between pre-and post-tests was conducted using the Wilcoxon test. Results: The results of this study indicate that aerobic exercise can increase VO2max in Physiotherapy students at Surakarta Polytechnic, as shown by the six-minute walking test. The hypothesis test yielded a p-value of <0.001, indicating a statistically significant difference, with a mean increase of 6.44 in VO2max values. Conclusion: There is a different effect between before and after treatment given aerobic exercise can increase VO2 max in Physiotherapy students at Surakarta Polytechnic. Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in endemic areas such as South Purwokerto. Despite a reported 61% decline in cases from 2022 to 2023, transmission persists, indicating the need for a deeper understanding of environmental determinants. This study aims to conduct a spatial analysis of environmental factors associated with dengue case distribution in the working area of the South Purwokerto Health Center during 2022–2023. This research employed an observational design with a qualitative exploratory approach. Data were collected from both primary and secondary sources, including direct measurements of indoor temperature and humidity, health center reports on larval-free index (LFI), larval density, rainfall, and case distribution. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) using ArcGIS software were utilized to analyze spatial patterns of dengue transmission. The findings showed that the average indoor temperature in patients’ homes was 31°C and relative humidity was 70%, conditions that support mosquito breeding. In 2022, the pattern of dengue cases inversely correlated with rainfall, while in 2023 the pattern was inconsistent. The dominant transmission pattern was “separated” (>100 m radius) with 55% of cases in 2022 and 60% in 2023 falling into this category. Only one sub-district, Teluk, failed to meet the Larval-Free Index threshold in 2022, while all areas improved in 2023. In conclusion, although environmental indicators improved in 2023, the persistence of cases indicates hidden transmission risks. Targeted vector control interventions and increased community participation are essential for sustainable dengue prevention.
