Abstract

This study explores teachers’ perceptions of implementing Project-Based Learning (PJBL) in ninth-grade speaking classes. As speaking skills are essential for effective communication and academic success, innovative teaching methods like PJBL are increasingly viewed as strategies to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. Through qualitative methods, including semi-structured interviews and classroom observations, this research investigates how teachers perceive the effectiveness, challenges, and benefits of using PJBL in speaking instruction. The findings reveal that teachers generally hold both positive and negative perceptions of PJBL. They appreciate its ability to improve student motivation, collaboration, and speaking fluency, while also identifying practical challenges such as time constraints, differing student proficiency levels, and limited teacher training. The study concludes that PJBL holds significant promise for improving students’ speaking skills in junior high schools, yet its success relies on systemic support, sufficient resources, and continuous teacher professional development.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of the Ranking 1 game method in science learning on the cooperative skills of fourth-grade students at SDN 36 Cakranegara. The research employed a pre-experimental design using the one-group pretest–posttest model, in which only a single class was involved without a comparison group. The research sample consisted of 20 fourth-grade students. Data were collected using a questionnaire designed to measure students’ cooperative skills. Prior to hypothesis testing, prerequisite tests including normality and homogeneity tests were conducted. The hypothesis was tested using a t-test to determine the significance of the difference between pretest and posttest results. The results of the hypothesis test indicated that the calculated t-value (11.055) was greater than the t-table value (1.725), leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis and the rejection of the null hypothesis. These findings demonstrate that the Ranking 1 game method has a significant effect on improving students’ cooperative skills in science learning. Therefore, the implementation of game-based learning methods such as Ranking 1 can be considered an effective instructional strategy to enhance student cooperation in elementary science classrooms.

Abstract

The majority of children affected by dental caries reside in middle-income countries. Dental caries is the most common oral health problem, affecting 2 billion people with permanent teeth and 514 million children with primary teeth. This condition can negatively impact children’s quality of life, including eating, sleeping, and learning. To improve children’s knowledge of oral health, a structured and continuous intervention was implemented using puppet stage promotive media and proper toothbrushing techniques. The approach included community education, technology and science diffusion (IPTEKS), and practical training. Among 23 children, prior to the intervention, 10 children (43.5%) were categorized as good and 13 children (56.5%) as adequate. Following the intervention, 18 children (78.2%) were classified as good and 5 children (21.8%) as adequate. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant improvement in knowledge. These results demonstrate that puppet stage promotive media, delivered through a structured educational approach, effectively enhances children’s understanding of oral health and promotes healthy behaviors from an early age.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examined the relationship between reading motivation and English literacy achievement among EFL learners. A quantitative correlational design was employed, using a reading motivation questionnaire and a standardized English literacy test administered to 30 intermediate-level students. Descriptive analysis showed that students demonstrated high literacy performance with moderate variability in reading motivation. Pearson correlation and simple linear regression revealed that reading motivation significantly predicted literacy achievement (R = 0.512, R² = 0.262, p = 0.004), indicating that 26.2% of the variance in literacy scores could be explained by motivation levels. Furthermore, an independent-samples t-test revealed no significant difference in literacy performance between male and female students (t = 0.925, p = 0.363). These findings highlight the central role of motivation in supporting literacy development in EFL contexts, suggesting that teaching practices should prioritize developing reading motivation. The study concluded that motivation is a key psychological factor influencing literacy outcomes, while gender plays no significant role in determining literacy achievement.

Abstract

Pakistan suffered from devastating floods in 2022, causing extensive infrastructural, economic, social, and other damages. Effective risk management was notably absent in the country. Therefore, this paper identifies critical factors influencing the build-back-better (BBB) framework and resilience building. The evaluation of various strategies for risk reduction in infrastructure during floods, ensuring its resilience, is also addressed. This study employs Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) techniques, specifically the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Decision-Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL), to assess critical factors in BBB in the context of devastating floods. The AHP analysis effectively ranked the identified factors based on their relative weights, while DEMATEL determined the inter-relationships among the parameters, categorizing them into effect and cause groups. The results indicate that improvement in structural design is essential, whereas asset replacement is the least important factor. According to the DEMATEL analysis, Cash-for-Work was the most important causal factor in improving resilience-building procedures. The findings of this study assist policymakers in formulating a risk-resilient framework for enhancing construction strategies and developing a strong and resilient infrastructure, effectively influencing associated stakeholders.
