Abstract

It has been almost two years that learning has been carried out online, resulting in students being less social and learning is dominated by individual learning. Therefore, it is necessary to apply group learning to overcome this. However, these lessons cannot be simply applied and need to be analyzed. One of these analyzes is to find out the responses of students and teachers. The purpose of this study was to describe the perceptions of teachers regarding cooperative learning during online distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is a descriptive research using survey method. The research instrument was in the form of a questionnaire filled out by 71 teacher respondents. The results showed that several important aspects of cooperative learning were the number of group members, group determination, the media used, and group assessment.

Abstract

Genre based learning or Text-based Instruction is a learning approach used in Indonesian language learning since 2013 until now. However, learning will be more engaging if the learning process is constantly adapted to students’ needs and innovations. This study aimed at building a Genre-based Learning paradigm that incorporates literacy activities and character development. The guidelines of the National Literacy Movement and Strengthening Character Education in secondary schools prompted this action. Based on this, the two things are integrated in learning to help teachers implement literacy and strengthen character education in the learning process. This research employed Plomp’s Development model (Preliminary Research, Prototyping Phase Assessment Phase). In the Assessment Phase, researchers tested products that had been developed to determine the practicality and effectiveness of learning Indonesian using the developed model. The research instruments are in the form of questionnaires, observation sheets and tests. The research subjects were students of one of the high schools in the city of Padang. The results demonstrated that the Genre-based Learning model, which integrates literacy activities with character development, is useful and time-efficient for language learning. Additionally, this concept is applicable for enhancing student learning activities. This learning strategy can be utilized as an option to combine literacy activities and character development into secondary school Indonesian language instruction.

Abstract

The change in the curriculum in Indonesia from Curriculum 13 (K13) to the Independent Curriculum requires teachers to be ready to face these changes. Changes in learning tools are something that cannot be avoided by teachers as teachers. The learning plan (RPP) has been abandoned and moved to the Teaching Module. The presence of an independent curriculum not only provides changes to learning tools, but also to the competencies that teachers must have. Digital competence to produce interesting teaching modules has of course become an obligation, especially since the government has equipped teachers with the learn.id email. This email is integrated into the licensed Canva application, so teachers no longer have difficulty in designing teaching modules. It is hoped that the use of teaching modules using the Canva application will be able to answer the need for creating interesting teaching tools. A good teaching module does not only lie in its appearance, but also in its content. Writing teaching modules based on local wisdom will certainly make the teaching modules not only quality in terms of appearance, but also in terms of content. Based on the results of interviews with the head of the Subject Teachers' Conference (MGMP) of SMP Kota Pariaman, it is known that teachers are not yet skilled in designing teaching modules using Canva. Apart from that, the teaching modules that have been designed by teachers are not based on local wisdom. This background is what underlies the community service team of lecturers at the Indonesian and Regional Language and Literature Department to carry out training in writing teaching modules. The teaching module writing training that was carried out was attended by 20 Indonesian language subject teachers who are members of the Pariaman City Indonesian Language MGMP. The aim of this service is to provide knowledge and training to Pariaman City Indonesian Language MGMP teachers in using the Canva application in designing independent curriculum teaching modules. The training began with an explanation of the relationship between the use of technology in implementing the independent curriculum, then the material presented was the steps for using the licensed Canva application using a Belajar.id account. Teachers are guided to register. After registration, teachers go to their Canva account and start designing teaching modules. The teaching module designed by the teacher does not contain differentiated learning, therefore the training continues with conveying the essence of differentiated learning. Strategy in writing teaching modules by paying attention to differentiated learning. The training ended with teaching module material containing local wisdom. Teachers design teaching modules based on the independent curriculum which contains local wisdom in the form of guided assignments. Making teaching modules using the Canva application described previously. The training methods used were question and answer, direct practice and demonstration, and evaluation was carried out through distributing questionnaires before and after the training. The results of the questionnaire analysis showed that in general participants were satisfied with the training schedule and time, as well as the topics presented. Even though some participants experienced difficulties due to inadequate internet connections and devices, there were indications that the participants succeeded in increasing their knowledge and motivation in using the Canva application through the Belajar.id account. Apart from that, the teaching modules produced by teachers are also good and interesting.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of movie-based training on enhancing English literacy among high school students. Employing a quantitative approach, it explores the relationship between movie-based English communication training and its effect on literacy skills. The research involves 57 high school students from private schools. The SEM PLS technique was utilized for data analysis. Validity tests confirmed the reliability of all survey items, with indicators exceeding a 0.5 loading factor. The study's focus is the direct impact of understanding English communication through movies on student literacy. Notable findings were observed at Ar-Raudhatul Hasanah private school, where a significant correlation was established, indicated by a p-value of less than 0.05 and a t-value of 6.774, surpassing the threshold of 2.008 indicating a significant influence of movie-based training on enhancing English communication skills. This suggests that such training could be beneficial not only for students but for a broader audience as well.

Abstract

Phrasal verb is one aspect of English that is often avoided by EFL learners, including students in Indonesia. This is usually due to the method of learning phrasal verbs that tends to make it difficult for learners. Hence, this research tries to present how cognitive linguistics affects Indonesian students’ understanding of learning phrasal verbs. This research takes about 50 students of Padang State Polytechnic, Indonesia as the research subject. The students were divided into two groups: those who learned phrasal verbs with the traditional method and those with the cognitive linguistics method. Each group of students was taught by different lecturers who used cognitive linguistics and traditional methods. Then, the students were tested on their understanding of phrasal verbs. This study employed a quasi-experimental causal-comparative research design; this research revealed that learning phrasal verbs with the cognitive linguistics method is able to produce a significant understanding of students’ ability to understand phrasal verbs. The results of the test found that students who learned phrasal verbs with the cognitive linguistics method had a score of 80 in understanding the meaning of phrasal verbs and a score of 76.8 in applying phrasal verbs in English sentences. While the test results of the traditional method group showed less good results. In-depth interviews, and questionnaires from this research show that cognitive linguistics method helps students in understanding the meaning of phrasal verbs although there are weaknesses in applying phrasal verbs into English sentences. The implication of this research finding is that cognitive linguistics method can be an effective approach for teaching phrasal verbs to EFL students.

Abstract

In the digital era, the integration of technology in education is becoming increasingly crucial to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes. One prominent tool in the context of Mandarin language instruction is Wordwall, a game-based learning platform that offers various interactive activities. This article aims to elucidate and evaluate the benefits of using Wordwall in the context of Mandarin language teaching and learning. The research conducted is of a descriptive nature. The respondents for this study were 52 students at Padang State University enrolled in Mandarin language courses. The subjects of this research consisted of 52 UNP study program students (45 women and 7 men) aged between 19 and 20 years who were selected using the random sampling technique.Data collection utilized a questionnaire through Google Forms and assessments of quizzes on the Wordwall game. The research data were analyzed qualitative by conducting validity tests, reliability tests, and classical assumption tests. The research findings conclude that learning with Wordwall makes the learning process easy, enjoyable, and assists students in understanding Mandarin. Furthermore, the implications of this research suggest that learning through the application of play techniques using the Wordwall game is highly suitable for beginner Mandarin language learners.

Abstract

Writing scientific papers is unavoidable for the scientific community in higher education. As part of the scientific community, students must master the knowledge and skills of writing scientific papers. However, the reality on the ground has not shown the expected reality. Many students do not have sufficient knowledge and skills to write scientific papers. Not a few students still have shallow knowledge and skills in terms of writing scientific papers. This study examined students' perceptions of using the TPACK-based 5E-PBL learning cycle model to improve their ability to write scientific papers. The subjects of this study were 189 second-semester students who had taken Indonesian language courses at Asahan University from the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Teacher Training. The research method used was a descriptive research design with a quantitative approach. The research data was obtained by distributing surveys to all samples using the Google Forms platform, and interviews. Based on the results of the data analysis, there was a significant increase, around 51 students got very good scores, and 65 were in a good category. Thus, the effectiveness of the TPACK-based 5E-PBL learning cycle model in terms of educators (lecturers) shows a very high category (56%). While the average score showed the highest score 41% in the very high category viewed from the students’ sub-variable. In sum, students considered using the 5E-PBL learning cycle model based on TPACK for Indonesian language courses on scientific paper writing material positively impacted the learning process.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penggunaan kata penghubung dalam teks pidato Presiden Republik Indonesia pada sidang tahunan MPR 2014 dan 2022. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Dari sumber data teks pidato Presiden Republik Indonesia Sidang Tahunan MPR 2014 dan 2022, penelitian ini menemukan 10 konjungsi, yaitu sebab akibat, kontradiksi, ekses (eksekutif), konsensi, tujuan, penambahan, pilihan, urutan (alternatif), kondisi, dan metode. Konjungsi yang paling banyak ditemukan adalah konjungsi tambahan (tambahan) sebanyak 156 data teks pidato Presiden RI Sidang Tahunan 2014 dan 141 data teks pidato Presiden RI Sidang Tahunan MPR 2022 . Konjungsi yang paling sedikit ditemukan adalah konjungsi konsesional sebanyak 2 data untuk teks pidato Presiden RI pada Sidang Tahunan MPR 2014 dan 0 data untuk teks pidato Presiden RI pada Sidang Tahunan MPR 2022 sidang.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh dari penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe CIRC terhadap keterampilan membaca pemahaman teks deskripsi siswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen, dengan desain one group pretest-posttesti. Sampel dari penelitian ini adalah kelas VII 6 SMPN 1 Painan yang berjumlah 28 siswa. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan data dapat diketahui bahwa rata-rata hasil posttest siswa sebesar 82,69, yang menunjukkan adanya peningkatan dari rata-rata pretest. Hasil uji hipotesis  menunjukkan bahwa thitung > ttabel. Hal itu menunjukkan bahwa model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe CIRC memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap keterampilan membaca pemahaman teks deskripsi siswa kelas VII SMPN 1 Painan.  Kata-kata Kunci:  Membaca Pemahaman, Kooperatif Tipe CIRC, Teks Deskripsi

Abstract

Benih jagung yang disimpan seringkali mengalami penurunan mutu akibat peningkatan kadar air dikarenakan sifat benih yang higroskopis dan gangguan serangan hama kumbang bubuk Sitophilus zeamais yang dapat merusak benih. Silica gel dari sekam padi merupakan sebuah produk yang digunakan untuk mencegah kelembapan pada benih. Sereh wangi mempunyai tipe mekanisme pengendalian antiinsek, insektisidal, antifeedan, repelen, antifungal, antibakteri, dan berpotensi mengendalikan hama pada benih jagung. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan untuk mengkaji “Pengaruh Formulasi Silica gel dari limbah Sekam Padi dan Minyak Atsiri Sereh Wangi Terhadap Benih Jagung”. Penelitian dibagi menjadi beberapa tahapan diantaranya: tahapan pertama pembuatan abu sekam padi, pembuatan sol silica sekam padi, pembuatan paraffin aromatik minyak atsiri sereh wangi, pengemasan, dan analisis data. Tahapan kedua meliputi uji repelensi hama, populasi hama, kemerosotan bobot benih, kadar air benih, daya berkecambah, dan bobot kering kecambah normal. Formulasi minyak atsiri sereh wangi yang digunakan yaitu konsentrasi 10% dan 15%. Berdasarkan formulasi yang telah digunakan, formulasi silica gel dan konsentrasi minyak atsiri 15% cukup efektif dan berpengaruh nyata dalam mengurangi perkembangan populasi hama S. zeamais terhadap penyimpanan benih jagung dibandingkan control tanpa perlakuan
