Abstract

This study emphasizes the transformation of the values of the Sīrah Nabawiyyah in the context of character education for Generation Z, while identifying the challenges and opportunities in integrating these values into modern education. The key objective of this study is to analyze and understand how the younger generation can relate lessons from the Sīrah to the context of their daily lives. Data have been collected through questionnaires distributed to 203 students, as well as narrative analysis of relevant literature to understand the values in the Sīrah. The application of analytical methods has included the Theory of Character Education by Lickona and the Theory of Contextual Learning by Dewey, with primary sources in the form of Sīrah books and character education documents. The findings have shown that students tend to prioritize understanding the historical context and the suitability and harmony of Islamic values in modern life, so suggestions for further research are to explore the combination of religious education and active learning. Despite the limitations in the number of respondents, this study provides a significant contribution to the development of appropriate, responsible, and applicable Islamic values-based learning methods, and paves the way for further exploration of the long-term impacts of character education in diverse contexts.

Abstract

Abstract

Research aims: This study aims to compare the financial performance of Islamic commercial banks in Indonesia and Malaysia using the Sharia Conformity and Profitability (SCnP) framework, focusing on their alignment with sharia principles and profitability levels. Design/Methodology/Approach: A quantitative descriptive method was used, with secondary data obtained from Islamic bank financial reports and official sources such as OJK, IFSB, and PSIFIs. The SCnP model served as the primary analytical tool, and all Islamic commercial banks in both countries were included using saturated sampling. Research findings: Islamic banks in Indonesia showed fluctuating yet improving financial performance, particularly in profitability, reaching optimal position in 2024. However, challenges remain in maintaining consistent sharia compliance. Malaysian Islamic banks, meanwhile, consistently occupied the upper-left quadrant (ULQ), indicating strong profitability but limited use of profit-sharing instruments. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: This study contributes to the literature by applying the SCnP model in a cross-country comparison, highlighting the influence of regulatory systems and governance on Islamic banking performance. Practitioners/Policy Implications: Findings suggest that Indonesian banks should improve governance and investment screening, while Malaysian banks may benefit from enhancing the adoption of profit-sharing contracts to align more closely with Islamic ethical objectives. Research Limitations/Implications:The study is limited to quantitative data and excludes qualitative aspects such as governance and customer perception. Future research is encouraged to integrate these dimensions for a more comprehensive evaluation.

Abstract

The classification of modernist versus traditionalist, is no longer appropriate to describe the spectrum of contemporary Islamic intellectualism. This article analyzes how the concept of modernism is defined and elaborated by Indonesian Islamic scholars. It also , in particular, examines the dynamics of Islamic modernism growth that have shaped the distinctive characteristics of Indonesian Islam compared to those in other Southeast Asian countries.  This article come from library research using a qualitative approach for data collection and analysis. By an emphasis on document and text analysis, in particular, this article shows that modernism in the history of Islamic intellectualism in Indonesia could be imaged as axis of dialectical discourse in the formation of Indonesian Islamic characteristics; moderate and flowering Islam.  This  article, in particular, argues that the emergence of modernism in Islam plays a role in confirming the existence of Indonesian Islam as an integral, not peripheral, part of the Islamic world civilization.

Abstract

AbstractThis study investigated Surah Al-Nas verses 4-5, which describe the concept of original sin in Christianity and compare it to the concept of original sin in Islam. This study employed the Qur'anic text analysis approach and compared it to Kenneth Cragg's ideas in his book The Qur'an and the West. The Qur'anic text analysis method was utilized to thoroughly understand the verse's content. In contrast, Cragg's thought approach examines the perceived concept of original sin in Western tradition. The outcomes of this study demonstrate a fundamental distinction between the concept of original sin in Christianity, which regards sin as an inheritance from Adam, and the concept in Islam, which emphasizes individual responsibility for one's acts. This study adds to the knowledge of the fundamental distinctions between the two major religious traditions in their views on the original sin and their recognition of the human concept of God.Keywords: Original sin; Religious Understanding; The Qur’an and The West. The Qur’an and The West. Abstract

This study examines the impact of viral humanitarian imagery, focusing on the AI-generated image campaign with the hashtag #AllEyesonRafah on global social media dynamics. It explores how the imagery influences public awareness and encourages responses to humanitarian issues in Rafah, Palestine. The study aims to identify a pattern linking social media use to social mobilization driven by humanitarian imagery. Data were collected through analysis of digital content posted by public figures and humanitarian organizations, employing a qualitative approach informed by relevant communication theories. Primary sources included posts by public figures such as Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande, and Paramore, which significantly increased engagement. The analysis integrates three theories: Mark Granovetter’s Social Network Theory to examine the viral spread of AI-generated imagery on platforms like X, Instagram, and TikTok; Stuart Hall’s Representation Theory to analyze global public interpretations of these images; and Marshall McLuhan’s “Medium is the Message” Theory to assess how social media platforms and visual formats shape perception of the Rafah crisis. Findings indicate that viral humanitarian imagery not only raises awareness but also drives tangible global audiences. The study confirms social media’s role as an agent of social change, with its novelty lying in the detailed explanation of emotions in visual communication. The limitations of this study include the focus on one aspect of social media and the lack of longitudinal analysis, while suggestions for further research include a broader exploration of audience interactions and offline dimensions of similar phenomena.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of an innovative approach in Islamic religious education learning as a strategy to foster students' affective competence. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, classroom observations, and documentation of student activities. The results of the study indicate that innovative approaches such as project-based learning, reflection through digital media, and social case discussions are effective in fostering values such as empathy, honesty, responsibility, and social awareness in students. The role of teachers as value facilitators greatly influences the success of affective internalization, which is also reflected in increased student participation in social and worship activities. Documentation shows a real behavioral transformation in the school environment. This study provides a theoretical implication to the development of experience-based and contextual affective education, as well as being a practical reference for Islamic religious education teachers in designing learning strategies that touch the emotional realm of students. In addition, this study expands the discourse on character education in the context of vocational schools, which has so far been under-touched in similar research.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the strategies used in teaching colloquial Arabic for tourism purposes to fifth-level students at University of Al-Amien Prenduan. The research responds to the growing need for tour guides capable of communicating in colloquial Arabic with tourists from the Middle East. Although Modern Standard Arabic is the main language of instruction at the university, the Arabic Language Education Department has included colloquial Arabic to meet labor market demands. The study adopts a qualitative descriptive method, with researchers acting as semi-participant observers through classroom observations, interviews with lecturers and students, and document analysis. The findings reveal, first: the teaching relies on two main strategies interactive teaching, which emphasizes student engagement and discussion for understanding, and the lecture strategy, where the instructor explains theoretical concepts and grammar rules related to colloquial Arabic. Second: there are supportive factors in the learning process, such as a friendly peer environment, the use of YouTube as a supplementary tool, and teacher competence. Third: several obstacles exist, including low student motivation, limited learning materials, and time constraints. The main conclusion is that successful colloquial Arabic instruction requires a balance between interaction and explanation, supported by an appropriate learning environment. The study recommends enhancing interactive strategies, using multimedia, and developing culturally appropriate materials for non-native speakers.

Abstract

This paper aims to examine the imperfect status of ownership in the distribution of common property (gono-gini) from the perspective of Islamic law and positive Indonesian law, especially in the context of assets that are still pledged or have not been paid off. This problem becomes particularly relevant considering the number of married couples who acquire assets in the form of credit during their marriage period. This study employs a normative juridical method with a comparative approach, analyzing the norms of Islamic law, the Compilation of Islamic Law (KHI), and the Supreme Court Circular Letter (SEMA) No. 3 of 2018, and comparing them with judicial practices in religious courts. The results show that positive legal approaches that emphasize formal ownership tend to overlook each party's actual contribution in acquiring property, thereby risking the creation of injustice. On the contrary, the principle of substantive justice in Islamic law provides room for recognizing real contributions through conditional apportionment mechanisms and proportional assessments that are more adaptable to the socio-economic dynamics of households.
