Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Islamic Religious Education learning based on Multiple Intelligences, focusing on linguistic and musical intelligences at Al-Azhar 45 Islamic Elementary School Palembang. Howard Gardner's theory of Multiple Intelligences offers a revolutionary perspective by recognizing that each individual possesses a unique combination of various types of intelligence. This qualitative research, employing a case study approach. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model, incorporating triangulation techniques to ensure validity. The findings reveal that the implementation of learning begins with an observation of Multiple Intelligences to identify students' dominant intelligence profiles, followed by designing adaptive teaching modules. Development of linguistic intelligence is facilitated through reading, writing, storytelling, group discussions, and religious language games, while musical intelligence is developed through Islamic songs, melodic verse recitations, and the use of traditional instruments. Authentic assessment encompasses cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains without employing ranking systems. The results indicate significant impacts on students' social attitudes, including seven noble character indicators: honesty, discipline, responsibility, tolerance, cooperation, courtesy, and confidence. Students demonstrate increased empathy, collaboration skills, respect for others' opinions, and confidence in expressing their ideas. Multiple Intelligences-based learning creates holistic, meaningful, and enjoyable learning experiences, enabling deep internalization of Islamic values that manifest in sustainable behavioral changes in students’ daily lives.

Abstract

Abstract

The practice of gift-giving during marriage celebrations has long served as an expression of social solidarity deeply embedded within the Madurese Muslim community. However, evolving social, economic, and cultural dynamics have driven a significant shift in the values underpinning this practice, particularly in the context of the ompangan tradition. Critical studies examining the transformation of this tradition—from a voluntary act of giving to a reciprocal obligation accompanied by social sanctions—remain scarce. This article seeks to address this gap by exploring the shifting values within the ompangan tradition among the Madurese Muslim community in Sui Kakap Subdistrict through empirical research employing a socio-legal approach. Data collection was conducted through participant observation and structured interviews with seven key informants. The findings indicate that the ompangan tradition has undergone a transformation from an affective and tradition-based social act into one characterized by rational-instrumental actions. This transformation is marked by systematic record-keeping, rigid expectations of repayment, and the imposition of social sanctions through stigmatization. Normatively, the practice of ompangan has shifted from being understood as a hibah (gift) to resembling a qarḍ (loan) due to the community’s heightened expectations of repayment. The article argues that the process of adatisation of transactional norms, which blurs the boundaries between social solidarity and economic relations, carries significant implications for the intensification of social inequalities and symbolic segregation within the community. Consequently, this study recommends strengthening customary law frameworks that are more adaptive and participatory to redirect the transformation of ompangan practices toward the principles of mutual assistance in line with the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah) within the context of Islamic marriage celebrations.

Abstract

The implementation of the Independent Curriculum requires the development of Islamic Religious Education teaching materials that are more flexible, contextual, and focused on strengthening students' character. In the context of Aqidah subjects, the main challenge lies in maintaining the depth of theological values while adapting them to thematic and integrative learning approaches. This research aims to develop a conceptual model for formulating thematic and integrative Aqidah teaching materials aligned with the Independent Curriculum. This study uses a qualitative approach, drawing on literature enriched by conceptual-analytical analysis of Islamic education literature, thematic learning, and Independent Curriculum policies. The results of the study show that the development of thematic and integrative Aqidah teaching materials should be based on the principles of integrating faith values with contextual themes, cross-disciplinary integration, student-centered learning, and orientation toward the formation of character and competencies in the 21st century. This research produced a conceptual model of Aqidah teaching materials that places Aqidah values as the core, a thematic-integrative approach as a framework for organizing materials, and contextual learning as an implementative orientation. As a form of operationalization of the model, this study also presents an illustration of the application of thematic and integrative Aqidah teaching materials. These findings are expected to make a theoretical and practical contribution to the development of relevant, adaptive, and meaningful Islamic Religious Education teaching materials in the context of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

This research explores the foundational principles and ethical framework of Islamic economics as a distinct paradigm from conventional economic systems. Anchored in Islamic legal and moral philosophy, the study examines core concepts such as the prohibition of Riba (interest), the obligation of zakat (almsgiving), the avoidance of Gharar (excessive uncertainty), and the requirement for halal (permissible) transactions. Using a qualitative content analysis approach, the research draws on instructional material to identify how these principles are articulated and positioned within Islamic economic thought. The analysis reveals that Islamic economics is not merely a financial model but a value-based system emphasizing justice, social welfare, and divine accountability. Unlike conventional economics, which prioritizes utility maximization and market efficiency, Islamic economics centers on moral responsibility, risk-sharing, and ethical profit. The findings highlight the potential of Islamic economics to address contemporary issues such as inequality and unsustainable growth. This study contributes to the literature by offering a structured interpretation of Islamic economics grounded in scriptural sources and pedagogical content. Its originality lies in clarifying the ethical-spiritual foundation of Islamic economics and its relevance in modern discourse on sustainable and equitable economic systems.

Abstract

Libya faces significant environmental challenges such as water scarcity, desertification, and waste management, which impact the sustainability of its ecosystems and the lives of its people. Islamic education has great potential to support environmental sustainability through the integration of ecological principles embodied in the Qur'an. This article aims to explore how educational institutions in Libya can integrate Islamic-based sustainability principles into their curricula. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, collecting data through in-depth interviews with educators and educational institution administrators, and analyzing curriculum documents from various Islamic educational institutions in Libya. The results indicate that while there is great potential to integrate Islamic-based environmental education, the main challenges lie in the lack of government policy support, limited resources, and political instability affecting the education system. This article concludes that realizing sustainability-based education requires more comprehensive educational policy reform and increased collaboration between educational institutions, the government, and the community. This research also recommends developing training for educators to integrate sustainability principles into their teaching.

Abstract

This study examines how the Libyan Dar al-Ifta (2012-2016) implements ahkam on triple divorce pronounced in a single utterance (ṭalāq al-thalāth bi-lafẓ wāḥid) or closely related patterns which related to divorce counting. Using a qualitative, document-based design method and juristic content analysis, the study examines a purposive corpus of published fatwas addressing (1) explicit numerical pronouncements “by three”, (2) repeated utterances (ṭāliq / hiya ṭāliq) framed as emphasis versus multiple enactments, and (3) conditional divorce and divorce oaths. Results show that the majority juristic position and authoritative transmissions are used to enforce the fatwa (explicit-number and conditional “three”). Repetition treated as emphasis under constrained intention. Moreover, the study reveals an institutional duality in Libya in which fatwas often enforce conditional or oath-based triggers and count explicit-number pronouncements as three if the awareness is present. On the other hand, Law No. 10 of 1984 limits the effect of numbered divorce to one, prevents conditional divorce and divorce-oath effects. This contradiction between the fatwas and the law is interpreted as a distribution of Maqāṣid across institutions, where prevention and safeguarding the seriousness of divorce language are emphasized in fatwa practice, while harm reduction and family stability are institutionalized through legal policy and procedure. This study, empirically, contributes the ongoing discussions of fatwa reasoning in society and clarifies how the tension between Ibn Abbas hadith and the majority pathway is managed and understood as evidence or an exception rather than a rule.

Abstract

The inauguration of Prabowo Subianto as the President of Indonesia marks a significant shift in the nation’s foreign and defense policy toward "Strategic Assertiveness." In an era defined as the "Age of Chaos," characterized by the erosion of multilateralism and intense US-China competition, Indonesia faces multifaceted threats ranging from maritime sovereignty to food and energy security. This report examines Prabowo’s leadership style through the lens of Maqashid al-Syariah, focusing on how his policies aim to protect the five essential elements of human well-being (al-maqasid al-khamsah). By employing a qualitative-descriptive methodology, the analysis reveals that Prabowo’s "firm, charismatic, and task-oriented" leadership embodies the Quranic principle of "I’dadul Quwwah" (preparation of strength) as mandated in Surah Al-Anfal 60. His focus on defense modernization and food self-sufficiency aligns with the preservation of life (Hifz an-Nafs) and wealth (Hifz al-Mal). However, the implementation of "polite democracy" and a military-dominant cabinet sparks debate regarding the balance between national stability and civil liberties. This research concludes that while Prabowo’s assertive stance is necessary for national survival in a multipolar world, it must be balanced with transparency and democratic accountability to ensure genuine public interest (maslahah).
