Abstract

This research aims to understand the symbols and meanings of the Mematua ritual procession among the Kaili indigenous people in Siniu Sayogindano Village. This research uses an ethnographic analysis. Ethnographic analysis is an approach that begins with field facts, analyzes them based on cultural theories and relevant arguments to explore the cultural situation of the community, and ultimately yields a conclusion. The results show that the Mematua ritual procession among the Kaili indigenous people is an event rich in symbols and meanings, embodying deep cultural values and reflecting local wisdom. The eight stages of this procession, from the Polele fetching the bride to both newlyweds seeking blessings from their parents, not only represent steps in a wedding ritual but also teach the importance of harmony, respect, and commitment in marital life. Each aspect of the Mematua ritual reflects harmony among individuals, families, and the broader indigenous community. This underscores that marriage in the Kaili indigenous tradition is an event uniting two individuals and a community ritual involving respect for social and spiritual values passed down through generations. Therefore, it is recommended that the Department of Education and Culture of Parigi Moutong Regency intensify efforts to document and research the Mematua ritual procession of the Kaili indigenous people to ensure that the richness of symbols and meanings in this tradition is preserved and continues to be recognized by future generations. For the Kaili indigenous people, it is advised to continue nurturing and practicing this tradition, not only as a way to celebrate significant life moments but also as a means to strengthen community bonds and honor a rich cultural legacy. Greater involvement of the indigenous community in preparing and conducting this ritual procession can effectively preserve the social and spiritual values foundational to the Kaili tribe amidst the challenges of modernity and globalization.

Abstract

This research aims to delve deeper into the process of cultural transformation through the educational system of Tondo Lino Ngata Toro Nature School. This research uses an inductive qualitative analysis. Inductive analysis is an approach that begins with field facts, analyzes them based on relevant theories and arguments, and ultimately yields a conclusion. The results show that the Tondo Lino Ngata Toro Nature School is an educational innovation that combines local wisdom values with interactive and experiential learning methods. Arising from the Ngata Toro indigenous people’s need to preserve their culture amidst modernization, this school adopts a holistic approach to education, enriching the curriculum with traditional values and local wisdom practices. The outdoor learning process, designed to involve students through a learn-through-play method actively, ensures that they acquire knowledge and develop deep connections with their environment and community. This initiative demonstrates that education rooted in local wisdom and implemented through direct experiences in the outdoors can be an effective tool for sustainable cultural transformation. Therefore, it is recommended that the Village Government, Traditional Institutions, Community Leaders, and the Ngata Toro indigenous people continue to support and develop the Tondo Lino Ngata Toro Nature School. Strengthening collaboration among various parties is necessary to enrich learning resources and ensure the sustainability of this program. Ideally, the local natural resources and wisdom should be utilized as significant assets in the curriculum by providing more outdoor learning opportunities and incorporating more aspects of local culture into the learning process. Additionally, developing training for facilitators and teachers on experiential learning methods and learn-through-play will enhance the quality of education and the learning experience for students. Finally, encouraging active community participation in the school program will strengthen the relationship between the school and the community and support transmitting cultural values to the younger generation.

Abstract

The jilbab, transcending its status as a symbol of religious observance for Muslim women, is now a complex global phenomenon fraught with contested meanings and practices. This research aims to analyze how contemporary jilbab practices and representations are dynamically negotiated at the crucial intersection of ideological forces (religious and political), the logic of dress semiotics as a sign system, and the penetration of global consumer culture. Using a qualitative approach relying on Barthesian semiotic analysis alongside thematic and content analysis of textual and visual data (literature, media, documentation), this study unpacks the interaction of these three dimensions. Findings indicate that the jilbab functions as a visual text with non-singular meanings; diverse styles communicate different and often ambiguous semiotic significations, which are continuously constructed and contested within the ideological arena through struggles over religious interpretation, identity politics, and feminist discourses. Furthermore, it was found that intensive commodification processes through the fashion industry and media have integrated the jilbab into the logic of consumer culture, creating tensions between values of piety, aesthetic expression, and consumptive desire. It is concluded that a holistic understanding of the contemporary jilbab necessitates an interdisciplinary analysis that moves beyond simplistic dichotomies, recognizing the jilbab as a dynamic site of Muslimah identity negotiation amidst the complex interplay of ideology, the dress sign system, and global market hegemony.

Abstract

The Sumba region, Indonesia, is known for its extraordinary natural beauty and unique cultural richness. There are 19 interesting tourist attractions spread throughout the area, but tourists often face difficulties in planning efficient visiting routes. From this case, it can be solved by applying graph theory in terms of searching for the shortest distance which is completed using the shortest path search algorithm. Then these 19 tourist objects are used to build a weighted graph, where the nodes represent the tourist objects and the edges of the graph describe the distance or travel time between these objects. Therefore, this research aims to compare the shortest path search algorithm with parameters to compare the shortest distance results, algorithm complexity and execution time for tourism in the Sumba area. The results of this research involve a comparison of several shortest path search algorithms, with the aim of finding the shortest distance results, algorithm complexity, and execution time for tourism in the Sumba area. Based on the test results of the five algorithms with the parameters that have been prepared, and the findings show that each algorithm has its own characteristics, the results are as follows: Dijkstra's algorithm can be used to calculate the shortest route for single-source and single-destination types. This resembles the Bellman-Ford algorithm, only the Bellman-Ford algorithm can be used simultaneously on graphs that have negative weight values. Meanwhile, the Floyd-Warshall algorithm is suitable for use on the all-pairs type. Then, the Johnson Algorithm can be used to determine the shortest path from all pairs of paths where the destination node is located in the graph. Finally, the Ant Colony algorithm to compute from a node to each pair of destination nodes.

Abstract

Globalization becomes a current issue all over the world. It expands and accelerates the exchange of ideas and commodities over vast distances. Regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a global network of communications, transportation, and computer technology. These have given impetus and make the world more interdependent than ever (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Globalization). Globalization is no longer about trade in things that can be put in a box, but about trade in everything that can be digitalized. Digital technology makes everything simple. A big problem appears in a trade is distance, but it can be solved by using computer and internet connection. Sale and purchase transaction can be done by using computer with the Internet connection. Computer gives important contribution in globalization. Hornby (1995: 235) states that computer is an electronic device for strong and analyzing information fed into it, for calculating, or for controlling machinery automatically. Computer is used in vary of field and computer also used in instruction. Computer used in instruction provides virtually instantaneous response to the students input, has extensive capacity to store and manipulate information, and is unmatched in its ability to serve many individual students simultaneously. It has the ability to control and integrate a wide variety of media – still pictures, graphics, and moving images, as well as printed information. The computer can also record, analyze, and react to students’ responses that are typed on a keyboard or selected with a mouse (Heinich, 1996: 228).

Abstract

Gas turbines are one type of internal combustion drive, the initial mover utilizes gas combustion as a fluid to rotate the turbine with internal combustion. Gas turbines at private companies producing electricity use the initial movers, namely gas turbines and steam turbines. Therefore, it is also called the "Steam Gas Power Plant/PLTGU.”Private company especially in Block 2, uses two gas turbine units with Mitsubishi GT 2.1 specifications which are used as the initial drive of the generator. Types of overhauls in gas turbines are divided into three, including turbine inspection, combustor inspection, and major inspection. In maintaining the reliability of the GT 2.1 Gas Turbine, an overhaul combustion inspection was carried out in the combustion chamber because there was an increase in heat rate of 17,9% which caused a decrease in thermal efficiency and net turbine power of the GT 2.1 Gas Turbine by 17% and 2,1%. So that steps are taken to optimize the GT 2.1 Gas Turbine with the combustion inspection method by repairing and cleaning the combustion bucket nozzle. Increased thermal efficiency by 27,8% or 27,13% to 36,01% from data before overhaul. This was also followed by an increase in compressor power and turbine power so that the net turbine power increased by 38% or 141339,35 hp to 195246,54 hp.

Abstract

In machine learning, predicting the mechanical properties of stainless steel, such as Yield Strength (YS), Ultimate Tensile Strength (UTS), and Elongation (EL), requires many input variables, such as chemical composition, type of heat treatment, heating duration, and cooling method. However, the complexity and number of these variables can increase processing time and reduce model accuracy. This study aims to explore the impact of selecting the most influential input variables to improve prediction accuracy. We compared two feature selection techniques: Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE), which systematically removes less important features, and Information Gain (IG), which measures the contribution of each variable to the target prediction. Both techniques were implemented using the random forest algorithm, chosen for its robustness in handling large datasets and its ability to capture complex interactions between variables. Parameter optimization was performed using a grid search. The analysis showed that the RFE-based model outperformed both the IG-based model and the model without feature selection. In predicting YS, RFE identified 13 out of 21 influential variables, achieving a Mean Absolute Error (MAE) of 9.91, Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 14.20, and R-squared value of 0.89. For UTS, RFE identified 8 out of 21 variables, with an MAE of 12.89, RMSE of 16.97, and R-squared of 0.97. In predicting EL, RFE identified 14 out of 21 variables, with an MAE of 3.82, RMSE of 6.10, and an R-squared value of 0.85. The high R-squared values (0.85) across all properties indicate the model’s strong predictive capabilities, making it suitable for practical applications in predicting the mechanical properties of stainless steel.
