Abstract

Human resource development is a key focus in the development of the Indonesian capital city. Elementary and secondary schools in Sepaku Regency, Penajam Paser Utara Regency, are the closest buffer zone to the New Capital City. Therefore, the quality of these schools is crucial in facilitating the development of the younger generation around the New Capital City. Adjustments to curriculum documents serve as guidelines for school administration, ensuring the quality of educational services provided. Therefore, training and mentoring in school curriculum development are crucial and have become the aim of this program. The method of this mentoring program was implemented through five phases from 2024 to 2025, with 12 elementary schools and two junior high schools in Sepaku District participating. The mentoring result demonstrated that each school was able to create comprehensive and aligned curriculum documents with a focus on in-depth learning. Challenges encountered during the training process included changes in the number of school representatives present at the training and mentoring activities. In early 2025, there was a shift in the curriculum guidelines toward in-depth learning. The finalization process for mentoring, incorporating key elements of in-depth learning into the curriculum documents, has been completed. It can be concluded that mentoring could support schools to re-focus their curriculum.

Abstract

Adolescents from divorced or conflict-affected families in Indonesia often experience academic anxiety rooted in emotional instability and limited family support. This challenge is especially pronounced in Javanese cultural settings, where harmony, acceptance, and spiritual balance are central to well-being. However, research on school counselling in Indonesia remain largely generic, often neglecting these cultural and spiritual dimensions that shape students’ emotional resilience. To address this gap, the present study explores the Junggringan Kawruh Jiwo (JKJ) counselling method, a culturally grounded approach that integrates Islamic spirituality and Javanese indigenous values to support students from broken families in managing academic anxiety. JKJ combines Ki Ageng Suryomentaram’s concept of kawruh jiwa (self-awareness and emotional responsibility), Islamic spiritual practices (dhikr, prayer, and reflection on Qur’anic verses), and Javanese principles (nrimo, ngalah, sabar) into a holistic therapeutic framework. Six students (aged 16-18) from divorced or conflict-affected families and three experienced school counsellors, purposively recruited through school administrations based on their prior work with such students, participated from three vocational schools in Semarang, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and analysis of reflective journals (February-April 2025). Credibility was enhanced through triangulation across data sources and validation via member checking and expert consultation in Javanese cultural and counselling traditions. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and reflective journal analysis between February and April 2025. Credibility was enhanced through triangulation of data sources and verification of interpretations via member checking and expert consultation in Javanese culture and counselling practice. The findings reveal that JKJ counselling enabled students to recognise and regulate anxiety through reflective dialogue, spiritual practices, and culturally resonant exercises promoting acceptance and self-awareness. Counsellors’ empathetic engagement fostered emotional safety and trust. Collectively, these results indicate that JKJ represents a culturally responsive counselling framework with potential to enhance the psychological support available to adolescents from broken families in Indonesia.

Abstract

Taman Beach as one of the superior tourist destinations in Pacitan has now begun to develop. The development of Taman Beach tourism object is inseparable from the efforts which are initiated by the Group of Turtle Rescue Society for Tourism "Taman Ria" which develops turtle conservation activities through the concept of community-based ecotourism. Local people have also developed tourist attractions such as flying fox and swimming pools to attract tourists to visit it and a portion of the tourism incomes for the funding of turtle conservation activities. However, in the development process, there are problems such as the low level of community participation and the lack of management of tourist object that is integrated with the local community. This study aims to analyze the role and level of community participation in supporting the development of community-based ecotourism in the Taman Beach area. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative. Quantitative data analysis using the Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) approach. Data collection is done by using questionnaires and observations in the field. The variables studied included the dimensions of planning, management, monitoring, and supervision. The results of the study indicate that the involvement of local communities in the development of ecotourism does not support sustainability, with an average sustainability index value of 46.864. The level of community participation according to Arnstein's participatory ladder from the aspect of planning and management aspects has reached the level of placement participation in the tokenism category (accepting the provisions). Whereas from the aspect of monitoring and controlling has reached the level of consultation participation in the tokenism category (accepting the provisions). The results of the analysis show that policy strategies are needed to increase community participation through increasing community roles and responsibilities in planning, management, monitoring, and controlling. Keywords: community based, ecotourism, multidimensional scaling

Abstract

Baladaun Conservation is a customary forest in Tosari Village, Pasuruan, managed collectively by the Tengger community as an expression of ecological stewardship and spiritual responsibility. Rooted in an eco-theological worldview, nature is regarded as a sacred trust linking humans, the environment, and the divine. Despite its strong ecological and cultural potential for educational tourism, the community faces challenges in institutional capacity, marketing, halal certification, and product distribution. This community service program applies the Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) approach to strengthen local economic capacity through participatory asset mapping, stakeholder engagement, and capacity-building initiatives. The program outcomes demonstrate measurable improvements. A total of 17 community members are now actively involved in tourism services, while 12 local producers engage in value-added processing of coffee and honey. Approximately 35% of participating households reported additional income sources beyond traditional agriculture. Digital promotion increased outreach, generating over 1,200 online interactions, while several enterprises successfully obtained Business Identification Numbers (NIB) and initiated halal certification. In addition, conservation efforts included the planting of 500 tree seedlings and the establishment of waste management practices. These results indicate enhanced economic diversification, improved institutional capacity, strengthened market access, and reinforced environmental conservation based on Tengger cultural value
