Abstract

Waste is unused material that comes from various human activities. One type of waste that is widely produced from household activities is used cooking oil. Used cooking oil is cooking oil that has been used repeatedly and has deteriorated, making it hazardous to health and the environmental ecosystem. Processing used cooking oil into solid soap is a simple, economical, and environmentally friendly innovation that can be applied on a household scale based on the principle of zero waste industry. This community service activity was carried out in collaboration with the Aisyiyah Branch in Kebanggan Village, Sumbang District, Banyumas, where most of the members are housewives. The main objective of the program was to raise environmental awareness while empowering partners through training in making solid soap from used cooking oil. The methods used included socialization on the dangers of used cooking oil waste, the practice of making solid soap using the cold process method, and the application of the soap produced for washing kitchen utensils. Evaluation was carried out through pre-tests and post-tests to assess the increase in community knowledge and skills. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the participants' understanding and skills in processing used cooking oil into useful products with quality that meets the 2021 Indonesian National Standard (SNI).

Abstract

This qualitative case study aims to explore how upper-grade elementary school teachers foster students’ self-confidence through humanistic classroom practices. The study was conducted at SDN 1 Ulak Balam in South Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving three teachers, six students with varying levels of self-confidence, and one school principal selected purposively. Data were analyzed using an interactive model. The findings reveal that teachers consistently applied supportive and empathetic approaches in their daily instruction, despite limited formal training in pedagogy. Various instructional strategies—such as structured questioning, small-group activities, and inclusive participation—were found to encourage student engagement and confidence. A strong emotional connection between teachers and students emerged as a key facilitating factor, while differences in student personalities and fear of peer judgment posed notable challenges. These results underscore the importance of providing structured professional development in student-centered teaching approaches and promoting school-wide efforts to create safe and supportive learning environments that enhance student self-confidence.

Abstract

Soybean, a protein-source vegetable legume, is one of the major commodities in Indonesia, leading to intensive breeding activity. Around 120 soybean varieties have been released, with an average yield of 1.5–2 tons per hectare and an average in-country production of around 300 thousand tons per year. Introducing subtropical soybeans is an approach to enrich the genetic variance of local soybeans to increase the yields. A total of 112 subtropical soybeans from East Asia were planted in the lowland tropic region, and their agronomic traits adaptation was observed. The area was selected to assess the photoperiod sensitivity of soybean species, which originated from subtropical regions. All genotypes flowered and were able to produce mature pods. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was used as a prior analysis to gain a better understanding of the dimensionality of datasets. Eight principal components (PC) were produced, with 67.60% of data variation explained by the first three PCs. Biplot analysis identified 30 potential genotypes that exhibited better performance, which were grouped into 4 distinct clusters, and each cluster had its specific identity traits. This preliminary finding could be a basis for further research for reference when selecting genotypes as gene sources in soybean breeding programs.

Abstract

General Background Civic education plays a strategic role in managing social diversity and developing tolerant character among elementary school students. Specific Background In PPKn learning, pluralism values are integrated to address the gap between students’ conceptual understanding of tolerance and their daily social practices, including sociolinguistic conflict and exclusive peer grouping. Knowledge Gap Previous studies have largely emphasized formal curriculum and teaching materials, while limited attention has been given to classroom management, hidden curriculum, social interaction, and inclusive school culture as contextual spaces for internalizing pluralism. Aims This study aims to analyze the strategic integration of pluralism values in PPKn learning and its implications for forming students’ tolerance. Results The findings show that pluralism values were integrated through contextual learning, heterogeneous group discussion, teacher role modelling, sociopedagogical mediation, inclusive school culture, and school family synergy. These strategies encouraged openness, respect for differences, reduced sociolinguistic conflict, and strengthened consistent tolerant behavior inside and outside school. Novelty This study positions students’ social experiences and hidden curriculum as central mechanisms for pluralism internalization, rather than treating tolerance education only as formal knowledge transfer. Implications The findings provide practical direction for teachers, schools, and parents in developing inclusive civic learning that supports democratic, respectful, and socially aware student character. Highlights • Pluralism values were practiced through contextual learning and heterogeneous interaction.• Teacher mediation reduced sociolinguistic conflict among elementary students.• School family synergy strengthened consistent tolerant behavior beyond classroom settings. Abstract

SMEs contribute 61.1% to Indonesia's GDP and employ over 97% of the workforce, yet only 30% last more than five years with sustainable practices. This study aims to examine the impact of e-commerce and social media adoption on SME sustainability, with financial performance as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach using PLS-SEM was conducted on traditional food SMEs in Banyumas. The results indicate that e-commerce adoption significantly affects financial performance (p=0.042), and financial performance significantly affects sustainability (p=0.015). However, no significant mediation effect was found. The GoF value of 0.337 indicates a moderate model fit. While digitalization enhances financial outcomes, its effect on sustainability is not automatic without strong internal capacity.

Abstract

The Piyungan landfill in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is a potential source of environmental pollution, releasing contaminants such as microplastics and heavy metals that can accumulate in the nearby soils. Agricultural soil surrounding the landfill has been found to contain both types of pollutants. The coexistence of microplastics and heavy metals may influence their environmental mobility and toxicity, potentially posing risks to ecosystems and human health. This study investigates the co-occurrence of microplastics and heavy metals (Pb and Cd) in agricultural soils near the Piyungan landfill. Soil samples were collected from four different points around the site. Microplastic extraction involved wet peroxide oxidation (WPO) using 30% H₂O₂, followed by density separation with saturated NaCl. The isolated microplastics were analyzed under a microscope, and polymer types were identified using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Concentrations of Pb and Cd, both within the soil matrix and associated with microplastics, were measured using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry (AAS). The abundance of microplastics in the soil ranged from 3450 to 5110 particles/kg, consisting of fragments, films, foams, fibers, and pellets in various colors. Detected polymers included polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE). Lead concentrations ranged from 5.1 to 8.4 mg/kg, while cadmium concentrations ranged from 0.6 to 1.4 mg/kg. These levels were significantly higher than those found in the reference soil, indicating the contamination of both microplastics and heavy metals in the agricultural soils near the landfill. Both heavy metals were also detected in microplastics. The observed co-contamination underscores the potential for complex interactions between microplastics and heavy metals in the soil near landfill, which may enhance their transport and combined toxicity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the two models' implementation for students'mathematical communication skills. The research method used was a quasi-experiment with a sample of 62 students selected by purposive sampling from two classes, namely Mind Mapping class and Inside-Outside Circle class. The instrument used was a test description of mathematical communication skills and a validated questionnaire. The results showed that the mathematical communication skills of students who obtained Mind Mapping and Inside-Outside Circle learning models did not differ significantly, with the quality of improving mathematical communication skills of the two classes based on the normalized gain test being in the medium category. When viewed from the frequency of students who reach the KKM, both are still less than 75%, so the two learning models' implications cannot be said to be good. However, students'responses to the learning models provided showed reactions with the right interpretation.
