Abstract

The low memorization capacity of students in the mathematics subject of multiplication material is caused by several factors, such as learning activities that are still teacher-centered and do not involve students actively, and the learning methods used are less varied. Efforts to improve students' memorization ability are by applying the Jarimatika learning method. This research aims to improve the ability to memorize mathematical multiplications for class III students using the Jarimatika learning method. The method used in this research is quantitative research with Quasi Experimental. From the results of the pretest and posttest for the two research classes, namely the experimental class which was given treatment and the control class which was not given treatment, it can also be seen in the attachment for the scores for each research class, the improvement and the differences between classes given treatment and not given treatment t_count > t_table namely 7.529 > 1.678, then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. This shows that there is an influence of using the Jarimatika learning method on increasing memory for memorizing multiplications with the average increase obtained being 42.45% before the Jarimatika learning method was carried out, and 84.85% after the Jarimatika learning method was carried out. Abstract

This study aims to examine the problems of elementary school students’ understanding of mathematical concepts in relation to teachers’ teaching strategies. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using structured interviews as the main data collection technique. The participants consisted of third-grade students and a mathematics teacher at SD UPT Negeri 060866 Medan Timur. Data were analyzed through stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students’ low understanding of mathematical concepts is influenced by several interrelated factors. From the students’ perspective, the main obstacles include low learning motivation, the perception that mathematics is a difficult subject, difficulties in connecting mathematical concepts with everyday life, and limited abstract thinking abilities. From the teachers’ perspective, mathematics learning is still dominated by conventional teaching methods, limited use of learning media and concrete teaching aids, monotonous instructional strategies, and the use of language that is not aligned with students’ cognitive development. In addition, teachers rarely provide feedback or explanations regarding students’ errors in solving mathematical problems. These results indicate that students’ conceptual understanding of mathematics is closely related to the teaching strategies applied by teachers. Therefore, more interactive, contextual, and student-centered learning approaches supported by appropriate media and simple, communicative language are needed to improve students’ understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This study explores elementary school teachers’ perceptions, attitudes, and readiness toward implementing environment-based education, a pedagogical approach that integrates environmental awareness and sustainability into classroom practices. It also compares these variables based on teachers’ participation in relevant training or prior experience and examines the relationships between them. A quantitative survey approach was employed involving 161 public elementary school teachers from North Sumatra, Indonesia. Data were gathered using structured self-report questionnaires and analyzed through descriptive statistics, the Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman’s Rho correlation analysis to identify differences and associations between key factors. The findings reveal that teachers generally hold high to very high levels of perception, positive attitudes, and readiness for environment-based education. Teachers who had participated in training or had prior experience showed significantly higher scores in aspects such as self-efficacy, availability of teaching documents, and willingness to implement environment-based learning. Strong correlations were found among key variables, particularly between teaching resources, institutional policy, and teacher confidence. These results emphasize the importance of professional development and institutional support in fostering effective environmental education practices among teachers. The study offers valuable insights for policymakers, curriculum developers, and school administrators aiming to strengthen environmental education initiatives in primary schools.
