Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Islamic social values in the Nyadran Mbah Sutononggo culture in East Java, Indonesia. The focus of the study is directed at two main aspects: the description of the Nyadran ritual procession and the implementation of Islamic social values contained therein. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological design. Data collection techniques include participatory observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation. The primary data sources used are several residents of Ngreco Village, including youth, religious leaders, academics, and village elders. Data were analyzed through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. To ensure data validity, this study employs triangulation, encompassing credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. The findings show that the Nyadran Mbah Sutononggo tradition has two implementation styles: the first is an Islamic social style characterized by the recitation of Yasin, tahlil (joint prayer), tausiyah (study of sermons), and eating together (alms); the second is a Javanese ritual style characterized by burning incense, scattering flowers, and prayers for good fortune to the ancestors. Each ritual carries a philosophical value. From an Islamic social perspective, three main dimensions are implemented: the aqidah dimension (strengthening monotheism through prayer and religious sermons), the moral dimension (silaturahmi, cooperation, and almsgiving), and the mu'amalah dimension (traditional economic activities based on mutual assistance and cooperation). This research confirms that the Nyadran tradition is not merely a traditional ritual but also a strategic means for implementing Islamic social values. However, further efforts are needed to eradicate the accompanying polytheistic practices.

Abstract

Protected forests are forest areas protected by law to maintain the balance of their ecosystems. The reciprocal relationship between birds and their environment can serve as an indicator of habitat condition, as birds are highly sensitive to environmental changes. The Way Rilau Research Station, situated in Lampung Province, is a protected forest that serves as a habitat for a diverse range of bird species. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to obtain data on species diversity, species richness, species evenness, and bird species dominance. Data collection in this study was conducted using a combination of point-count and line-transect methods. Observations were conducted in the morning (6–9 am) and the afternoon (3–6 pm). The results showed that 76 bird species from 37 families were recorded, totaling 382 individuals. The diversity index (H') value is 3,836, with a high category, and the species richness index (R) value is 13,370, which is categorized as high. The bird species evenness index (E) value is 0.886, which is classified as stable, while the species dominance index (C) value is 0.034, which indicates no species dominates. Based on the bird food guild type, the insectivore group dominates with 55 species (71.05%). The frugivore group with 12 species (17.11%), the carnivore group with four species (5.26%), the next dominance is the omnivore group with four species (5.26%), and the piscivore group with one species (1.32%)

Abstract

This study examines the application of criminal sanctions against opticians operating without an optometrist practice permit in Serang City. A refraction examination conducted by an optician without a licensed optometrist is a violation of statutory provisions, specifically Law Number 17 of 2023 concerning Health. If these obligations are not met, it will have a serious impact on patient safety, can reduce the quality of eye health services, and create public distrust of optometrists. The research method used is normative juridical by analyzing various laws and regulations as the main legal sources, including Law Number 17 of 2023, Law Number 36 of 2014 and other related regulations. In addition, the research is also supported by empirical data through interviews with various parties. This study shows that of the 30 actively operating opticians, only 16 optometrists have a practice permit in Serang City. Although criminal sanctions have been regulated normatively, ranging from administrative sanctions to imprisonment and fines are also possible. However, its implementation has not been optimal due to limited supervision, low legal awareness of optical business actors, weak coordination between the Health Service, law enforcement officers, and professional organizations and lack of education to the public about the importance of refractive services by Optometrists. This study concludes that normatively law enforcement is adequate, but its effectiveness depends on stricter supervision by various related parties, structured law enforcement mechanisms, ongoing legal education to Optical business actors to improve compliance and public health protection and educate the public about the importance of eye examinations by officially licensed Optometrists.

Abstract

This study evaluates the curriculum implementation program of the Formal Diniyah Education Unit (PDF) at Al-Junaidiyah Biru Islamic Boarding School, Bone Regency, using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. The research employs a qualitative approach with data collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Results indicate that: (1) Context evaluation shows the environment and conditions of PDF Ulya Al-Junaidiyah Biru adequately support curriculum implementation, though teacher understanding of the PDF curriculum remains uneven due to lack of training; (2) Input evaluation reveals that while the institution uses four curriculum components (Islamic education, general education, local content, and i’dad), facilities and infrastructure have not met quality standards; (3) Process evaluation demonstrates that teacher preparation remains suboptimal, with conventional teaching models still dominant and limited innovation in learning approaches; (4) Product evaluation shows satisfactory academic achievement, with students ranking 3rd nationally in the 2024 National Examination among 59 PDF Ulya institutions across Indonesia. The study recommends enhancing teacher competencies through systematic training, improving infrastructure quality, developing varied learning methods, and strengthening collaboration between PDF leadership, Dewan Masyayikh, and the Ministry of Religious Affairs to optimize curriculum implementation.

Abstract

The phenomenon of using sound horeg in East Java society gave birth to social and health polemics, so the East Java Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) forbade it through Fatwa No. 1 of 2025. This article aims to examine the ijtihad method used in the determination of the East Java MUI fatwa No. 1 of 2025 and how from the perspective of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah. The research method uses a qualitative approach based on literature study and content analysis of fatwas, complemented by fiqh rules and sharī'i arguments. The results show that the ijtihad of MUI East Java is contextual with the following steps taḥqīq al-manāṭ through an assessment of the social impact of high-volume sound and istinbāṭ al-aḥkām using qiyas coupled with the fiqh rule of dar'ul mafsadid muqaddamun 'ala jalbil maṣāliḥ (preventing harm takes precedence over attracting maslahat), maqashid sharia analysis that sound horeg is only tabi’iyyah (entertainment, prestige), while the harm touches ashliyyah (protecting the soul, protecting the mind, protecting property, and maintaining order). Therefore, MUI East Java's fatwa No. 1 of 2025 is the result of integrative contemporary ijtihad, combining classical sharia texts with modern social reality. This shows a methodological shift in fatwa from merely normative to responsive, by prioritizing the principle of maqāṣid al-syarī'ah as the main instrument to maintain the benefit of the people. Abstract

The Merdeka Curriculum was introduced as a response to post-pandemic educational challenges, emphasizing flexibility, learner autonomy, and student-centered approaches. This article aims to examine the implementation of existentialist philosophy in the Merdeka Curriculum and its implications for both students and teachers. This study employed a qualitative approach using literature review methods, analyzing primary sources of existentialist philosophy and secondary sources such as journal articles, conference proceedings, and educational policy documents. The findings indicate that existentialist principles freedom, responsibility, and authenticity are reflected in differentiated learning, Project Based Learning (PjBL), Problem Based Learning (PBL), and the Pancasila Student Profile Projects (P5). For students, this approach enhances ownership of learning, supports the search for meaning and authentic identity them. For teachers, it demands a shift in role from knowledge transmitters to facilitators of student existence, although challenges remain regarding administrative workload and mindset transformation. The study concludes that, when viewed through the lens of existentialism, the Merdeka Curriculum has the potential to cultivate a more humanistic, meaningful, and future-oriented educational ecosystem.

Abstract

This article discusses the philosophical foundations of Personalized Learning or Differentiated Instruction in the context of implementing the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia. Differentiated learning is an essential approach aligned with the ideals of national education that centers on the learner, particularly as inherited from Ki Hajar Dewantara, who emphasized the natural potential of children and the freedom to learn. This study employs a literature review method to analyze the interrelation between the philosophies of Humanism, Constructivism, and Progressivism with the principles of the Merdeka Curriculum and the practice of differentiated learning. The results indicate that Differentiated Instruction is not merely a pedagogical strategy but a manifestation of a philosophical belief that every learner is a unique individual with diverse readiness levels, interests, and learning profiles. The Merdeka Curriculum, through its focus on developing the Profil Pelajar Pancasila (Pancasila Student Profile) and promoting teacher autonomy, provides adequate space for the implementation of differentiation in content, process, and product. Philosophically, this approach aims to realize learning freedom (student autonomy) and educational equity (equal opportunities for all students to achieve their maximum potential), which are the core pillars of the Merdeka Belajar policy. Despite challenges in implementation—such as teacher readiness and resource availability—a strong understanding of these philosophical foundations is crucial to ensure that differentiation practices are applied holistically rather than merely administratively.
