Abstract

General Background: Productivity and consistency are essential factors in food processing industries, particularly in small and medium enterprises. Specific Background: Manual dough mixing in cracker production often results in low efficiency and inconsistent product quality. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies focus on practical machine design that addresses both productivity and consistency in small-scale cracker production. Aims: This study aims to design and develop a dough mixer machine to improve production capacity and mixing consistency. Results: The developed machine demonstrates improved mixing performance, increased production capacity, and more uniform dough compared to manual processes. Novelty: The study presents a practical machine design tailored for small-scale industries with specific capacity considerations. Abstract

General Background: Banana processing is an important agro-industrial activity in Indonesia, particularly for producing banana chips with consistent quality. Specific Background: Conventional manual slicing methods are inefficient and result in inconsistent thickness, limiting productivity and product quality. Knowledge Gap: Previous approaches have not fully integrated manufacturing process analysis with time, cost, and performance evaluation in a single machine design. Aims: This study aims to analyze the manufacturing process of a banana slicer machine with a capacity of 59 kg/hour, including time estimation, cost calculation, and performance testing. Results: The manufacturing process consists of cutting, drilling, welding, turning, and milling, resulting in a total production time of 29.63 hours and a total cost of Rp 5,058,262. Performance testing shows that the use of three blades produces the most consistent slice thickness of 2 mm with good quality output. Novelty: The study integrates detailed manufacturing time analysis, cost estimation, and performance evaluation within a single machine development framework. Implications: The findings provide practical guidance for improving production efficiency and product quality in small to medium-scale banana processing industries. Abstract

General Background: Waste management and alternative energy utilization are critical challenges in sustainable engineering systems. Specific Background: Conventional combustion systems often rely on mechanical devices such as blowers to improve combustion, which increases complexity and energy consumption. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies integrate steam boiler systems directly into combustion processes to generate airflow without additional mechanical assistance. Aims: This study aims to design and analyze a steam-assisted combustion stove using waste oil as fuel, focusing on thermal performance, steam generation, and flow characteristics. Results: The system employs a steam boiler with dimensions of 40 × 40 × 40 cm, producing steam at a rate of 0.0170 kg/s with a required heating power of 38,382 W and fuel consumption of 1.2 kg/h. Simulation results show flow velocities ranging from 52.8 m/s in the pipe to 531 m/s at the nozzle, indicating significant acceleration due to geometric constriction. Novelty: The integration of a steam boiler into a combustion system enables the conversion of thermal energy into kinetic energy flow without mechanical air supply devices. Implications: The design provides a practical solution for improving combustion performance using waste-derived fuel while maintaining system simplicity and safety. Abstract

General Background: Organic waste accumulation presents significant environmental challenges, including methane emissions and pollution. Specific Background: Conventional waste treatment methods often require high energy consumption and incur substantial operational costs. Knowledge Gap: There is limited development of low-cost waste melting systems utilizing alternative fuels such as used oil combined with water to support combustion. Aims: This study aims to design, manufacture, and evaluate the performance of an organic waste melting stove using a mixture of used oil and water. Results: The manufacturing process involves design, material selection, fabrication, assembly, and testing, with a total production time of approximately 635 minutes. The total production cost is calculated at Rp 2,719,100, and the selling price is determined at Rp 3,534,830 with a 30% profit margin. Performance testing shows that a 4 mm nozzle achieves a combustion capacity of 25 kg/hour, while an 8 mm nozzle produces 7 kg/hour. Novelty: The study introduces a waste melting stove integrating alternative fuel from used oil and water with detailed manufacturing cost and performance evaluation. Implications: The system provides a practical and economical solution for organic waste processing and supports sustainable waste management practices. Abstract

General Background: Automotive development increasingly emphasizes component material selection and manufacturing methods to optimize engine performance. Specific Background: Pistons are critical engine components whose production route, particularly casting and forging, may influence power and torque characteristics. Knowledge Gap: Although many studies discuss piston materials and engine performance separately, direct comparative experimental evidence between casting and forged pistons under identical operating conditions on the Yamaha Jupiter Z 2007 remains limited. Aims: This study aims to analyze the differences in power and torque generated by standard, casting, and forged pistons using dynotest measurements at 2000, 4000, 6000, and 8000 RPM. Results: The results indicate that forged pistons produced the highest overall performance, with average torque reaching 13.32 Nm at 2000 RPM and average power reaching 11.2 HP at 6000 RPM. Casting pistons occupied an intermediate position, while standard pistons consistently produced the lowest values. At high engine speed, forged pistons maintained better performance stability than casting and standard pistons. Novelty: The study directly compares three piston types within the same motorcycle platform while also relating performance differences to piston mass variation, where forged pistons showed the lightest weight. Implications: These findings indicate that piston manufacturing type is closely associated with engine output, and forged pistons offer stronger potential for applications requiring higher power and torque performance. Abstract

General Background Fish crackers are a popular Indonesian snack with a simple production process but high demand. Specific Background In Pasuruan Regency, SMEs struggle with manual dough mixing, which leads to inconsistent texture and high labor costs. Knowledge Gap Current traditional methods lack efficiency and structural consistency, requiring a more robust and hygienic automated solution. Aims This study aims to design and validate an automatic fish cracker dough mixing machine using static load simulations. Results The selection process using a morphological chart led to Concept A, which utilizes a 0.37 kW motor and stainless steel components. SolidWorks 2016 simulations revealed a maximum von Mises stress of 14.224 MPa and a maximum displacement of 8.74 mm under a 92 Nm torque load. Novelty The research introduces a highly stable frame structure (50x50x3 mm profile) with a safety factor of 13, significantly exceeding standard safety requirements for SME equipment. Implications This innovation allows for consistent 10 kg batch production, reducing manual labor and increasing the profit potential for local food industries. Abstract

General Background: Dissimilar metal welding is widely used in industrial applications where different materials are combined to balance mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, and economic efficiency. Specific Background: Carbon steel ASTM A36 provides good strength and low cost, while stainless steel 316 offers superior corrosion resistance, making their combination attractive for structural applications. Knowledge Gap: Although dissimilar metal welding has been widely studied, limited experimental data directly compare the effects of welding current and cooling media on tensile properties and macrostructure in ASTM A36 and stainless steel 316 joints using stainless steel electrodes. Aims: This study aims to analyze the effect of welding current and cooling conditions on the tensile strength and macrostructure of dissimilar metal welded joints. Results: Nine specimens were welded using current variations of 70 A, 80 A, and 90 A with air, natural air, and oil cooling. The highest stress value was 389.060 Kgf/mm² at 90 A with oil cooling, the highest strain value was 0.039 at 90 A with oil cooling, and the highest elastic modulus was 11,610 Kgf/mm² at 90 A with natural air cooling. Macrostructure observation showed that the 90 A natural air specimen had no visible welding defects, while the 70 A water-cooled specimen showed porosity, underfill, arc strike, and slag inclusion. Novelty: The study directly compares current variation and cooling media simultaneously in dissimilar metal welding between ASTM A36 and stainless steel 316. Implications: Proper current selection contributes to better tensile performance and improved weld quality in dissimilar metal joining applications. Knowledge Gap: Existing studies discuss food-mixing machines, but limited attention has been given to the design of a compact bread dough mixer specifically intended for a 3 kg dough capacity. Aims: This study aims to design a bread dough mixer with a dough capacity of 3 kg by determining the appropriate frame configuration, transmission system, shaft dimensions, and mixing mechanism. Results: The design process produced a functional mixer configuration consisting of a structural frame, drive system, rotating shaft, and mixing blade arrangement sized to support a 3 kg dough load. Component calculations were used to determine the feasibility of the selected dimensions and operating mechanism. Novelty: The study presents an integrated design configuration focused on small-scale bread processing with a specific 3 kg operational target. Implications: The proposed design provides a practical engineering reference for the development of compact dough mixing equipment for household and micro-enterprise bakery applications. Abstract

Temperature control is crucial for maintaining stable and effective thermal treatment in pyrolysis system. For this application, Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller is frequently utilized due to its ease of use and efficiency. This study aims to evaluate and compare the performance of classical and metaheuristic tuning methods for PID controllers in pyrolysis temperature control. This work compares conventional Ziegler-Nichols (ZN) and Cohen-Coon (CC) methods with metaheuristic optimization techniques, specifically Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), for tuning PID controller parameters. The main contribution of this research is the demonstration of improved control performance and computational efficiency using PSO-based PID tuning for pyrolysis applications. Simulation results show that PID controllers that the parameters tuned by GA and PSO achieve faster and smoother responses, with small overshoot, compared to classical methods. From both methods, PSO provides balanced performance with the shortest rise time (30.66 s), fastest settling time (50.80 s), and lowest overshoot (1.15%). Although both GA and PSO can maintain the set point of 500 °C with satisfactory transient response, PSO also shows better convergence efficiency, with smaller iteration numbers and lower computational effort. The results indicate that PSO-tuned PID is suitable for pyrolysis temperature control applications.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in creating local products and driving regional economic growth. The Government of Bogor Regency promotes the development of local products, particularly in the culinary sector. However, its implementation faces complex challenges among stakeholders, making collaboration an effective solution. One such initiative is a partnership program between the Department of Cooperatives and MSMEs (DISKOPUKM) and PT Indomarco Prismatama, the operator of Indomaret. This study aims to examine how collaboration operates within this partnership program, as well as to identify the challenges and efforts during the collaborative process. A descriptive quantitative method was employed, involving 32 respondents consisting of DISKOPUKM employees and MSME partners of Indomaret. The samples were selected using saturated and purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected through questionnaires, observation, interviews, and literature review. The results indicate that collaborative governance has been effectively implemented, with all dimensions well applied, as reflected by an average score of 4.24 (employees) and 4.12 (MSMEs). The highest dimension for employees is Collaborative Dynamics, reflecting effective communication and coordination, while for MSMEs it is Collaborative Actions and Outcomes, indicating tangible benefits. The lowest dimensions Drivers (employees) and Collaborative Dynamics (MSMEs) suggest the presence of uncertainty, communication barriers, and capacity gaps.The main challenges identified include issues in communication and coordination, suboptimal leadership, dependency on certain actors, and inconsistency among MSMEs in maintaining partnerships. Therefore, strengthening communication and coordination, enhancing leadership in collaboration, and establishing regular monitoring and evaluation mechanisms on a monthly basis are necessary to ensure measurable and sustainable outcomes of the collaboration program.
