Background and purpose: Students’ physical activity levels decreased significantly after college enrollment. Disruption during the COVID-19 pandemic also affects the students’ exercise level. The psychological aspect and the academic situation of medical students could interact with pandemic disruption differently compared to other students. This study compares exercise behaviour and its determinant factors among medical students before and during the pandemic. Methods: This study was conducted by collecting data in August 2021 and then comparing it to our data collected in July 2011. Participants were determined by a proportional random sampling based on gender and education year. There were 127 and 205 research participants in 2011 and 2021. The exercise behaviour and determinant factors were based on the Transtheory Model of behavioural change and grouped into five stages of exercise levels and four categories of factors. The data were analyzed descriptively and comparison tested for the two years. Results: This study showed a significant increase in exercise behaviour among medical students during the pandemic (p<0.05). The number of students in the pre-contemplation, contemplation, and preparation stages has decreased, and those in action and maintenance stages doubled compared to the pre-pandemic period. The change in exercise behaviour showed that changes only occurred in female and clinical-year students (p<0.05). There was no significant change in male and pre-clinical medical students. Predisposing, enabling, and maintenance factors are determinants of exercise behaviour that increased significantly during the pandemic (p<0.05), and personal factors did not increase significantly. Conclusion: Female and clinical-year medical students’ exercise activity increased significantly during the pandemic. Predisposing, enabling, and maintenance factors also increased substantially during the pandemic, while personal factors did not change significantly. Gender-related psychological and behavioural reactions to COVID-19 pandemic disruption explain these results.

Background and purpose: The incidence of fracture-related falls in young adults has been increased and the population with walking disorders has an increased risk of falling. It is very important to improve fall predictor parameters early in adulthood to reduce the risk of falling and injury in the future. This study aims to explore the differences of effectiveness between yoga and neuromuscular coordination exercise in improving several fall predictor parameters and Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) levels. Methods: This study was a randomized controlled trial involving 30 participants who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Participants were divided into two groups randomly. Group one was given yoga training intervention and group two was given neuromuscular coordination exercise. Participants` gait speed measurements were carried out using Shuttle Run Test. Participants` agility measurements were carried out using Hexagonal Obstacle Test. Participants` visual and auditory reaction time measurements were carried out using Whole Body Measuring equipment II type TKK – 1264 B. NGF measurement used the ELISA technique. Results: Paired sample Wilcoxon test showed yoga training was effective in improving all fall risk predictor parameters and NGF with p<0.05, but neuromuscular coordination exercise only showed improvement in one fall predictor parameter, namely speed. The unpaired sample Mann Whitney test proved that yoga training was significantly more effective with p<0.05 compared to neuromuscular coordination exercise in improving fall risk parameters, namely agility, visual reaction time, auditory reaction time, but not more effective in improving speed gait and NGF level. Conclusion: The We conclude that yoga training is the most effective exercise in improving fall risk parameters, namely agility, visual and auditory reaction time. Yoga training is a promising intervention in improving various aspects of fall risk.

Background: The development of the times causes technology to also experience development. As a result, many activities that previously required excess energy can now be easily done and also more practical. On the other hand, the development of this technology has a bad impact, where a person becomes less active in carrying out his daily activities, which can affect his lifestyle. Low physical activity can have an impact on body mass index that becomes not ideal. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between physical activity level and body mass index in students of senior high school. Methods: This study used the cross-sectional design. The research was conducted offline or directly in the field. Results: The results of Spearman's rho correlation test showed a value of p= 0.000 (p< 0.05) and a correlation coefficient value of -0.502. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between physical activity level and body mass index in students of senior high school with sufficient correlation strength. The value of the correlation coefficient shows negative results which indicate a unidirectional relationship between the two variables, where the lower the level of physical activity, the higher the value of a person's body mass index and vice versa.

BACKGROUNDMalaria remains one of the major causes of death worldwide. Holothuria scabra has a high nutritional content and many biological effects. The development of alternative anti-malarial drugs is necessary, considering that resistance to the newest anti-malarial drugs has been reported. This research study aimed to determine the anti-malarial effects of Holothuria scabra in mice infected with Plasmodium berghei. METHODSThis was a post-test only control group study conducted on 24 Balb/c mice. Peter’s four-day suppressive test was employed to ascertain the claimed anti-plasmodial effect of the simplicia. Following inoculation with P. berghei, all 24 mice were infected and randomized into 4 groups, namely 3 treatment groups and 1 control group. The control group was given carboxymethyl cellulose, two of the treatment groups were given doses of 10 and 100 mg/kg BW Holothuria scabra, respectively, using Peter’s four-day suppressive test, while the remaining treatment group received a dose of 100 mg/kgBW using the prophylactic method. Data were analyzed using One way ANOVA. RESULTSThe results showed by using both the four-day suppressive test and the prophylactic method, that Holothuria scabra has antimalarial activity. Holothuria scabra at a dose of 100 mg/kg BW was significantly effective in decreasing the percentage of parasitemia (p=0.000) and tended to inhibit the growth of Plasmodium berghei in mice (p=0.054). CONCLUSIONThis study demonstrated that Holothuria scabra possesses anti-plasmodial activity in mice. Hence, the sea cucumber could serve as a potential source of a newer antimalarial agent.
