Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat peningkatan signifikan secara statistik di dalam pencapaian siswa dalam menulis teks deskriptif dan aspek menulis apa yang paling meningkat setelah siswa diajarkan menggunakan Authentic Materials. One group pretest posttest design digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 23 siswa kelas IX Smp Abdulrahman Ibnu Auf Bandar Lampung. Data penelitian dianalisis menggunakan Repeated Measure T-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat peningkatan signifikan secara statistik pada nilai rata-rata pencapaian menulis siswa dengan level signifikansi 0.05 dan aspek menulis yang paling meningkat adalah aspek vocabulary diikuti dengan content, organization, mechanics, dan language use secara berurutan. Hal ini menandakan bahwa penggunaan authentic materials memberikan efek yang positif pada kemampuan menulis siswa. This research aimed to find out whether there is statistically significant improvement of the students’ writing achivement and what aspect of writing improved the most after the students were taught by using authentic materials. One group pretest posttest design was used in this research. The subjects were 23 nine grade students of Smp Abdulrahman Ibnu Auf Bandar Lampung. The data were analyzed by using Repeated Measure T-test analysis. The result showed that there was a statistically significant increase in the students’ mean score of writing achivement (12.67 1.72) with the significant level 0.05 and vocabulary aspect was highly improved followed by content, organization, mechacnics, and language use respectively. This indicates that using authentic materials give a positive effect on students’ writing achievement.Keywords: writing, descriptive text, authentic materials

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui (1) proses penerapan community language learning dalam pengajaran vocabulary, (2) permasalahan yang muncul dari penggunaan CLL dalam pengajaran vocabulary pada content words. Sampel dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII.10 SMPN 1 Kalianda. Data didapat melalui lembar observasi dan kuisioner. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa proses penerapan CLL dalam pengajaran vocabulary menggunakan picture sequence berjalan dengan baik dan permasalahan yang dihadapi siswa yaitu siswa mengalami kesulitan dalam menggunakan bahasa Inggris secara langsung dikarenakan mereka tidak mengetahui makna dan pengucapan kata terutama pada kata keterangan.This research was intended to find out (1) the implementation process of Community Language Learning in teaching vocabulary, (2) the problems coming from using CLL in teaching vocabulary in term of content words. The sample of this research was class VIII.10 of SMPN 1 Kalianda. The data were collected by using observation sheet and questionnaire. The results of this research showed that the process of implementation of CLL in teaching vocabulary by using picture sequence ran well and the problems faced by students were the students felt difficult in using English directly because they did not know the meaning and pronunciation of words especially in adverb.Keywords: community language learning, content word, picture sequence.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan apakah pre-questioning dalam teks personal recount dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa khususnya kelas X. Desain dari penelitian ini adalah time series design. Populasi dari penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X di SMAN 2 Bandar Lampung pada tahun ajaran 2012/2013. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan t-nilai adalah 6.329 dan t-tabel adalah 2.093 dengan tingkat signifikan 0.05. Dari hasil tersebut bisa dikatakan bahwa pre-questioning dalam personal recount teks efektif untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.The objective of the research was to find out whether pre-questioning in personal recount text could significantly increase students reading comprehension of the tenth grade students. The design of this research was time series design. The population of the research was the tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Bandar Lampung in academic year 2012/2013. The result of this research revealed that the t-value was 6.329 and the t-table was 2.093 with the level of significance 0.05. From that result, it could be said that the use of pre-questioning in personal recount text was effective to increase students reading comprehension ability.Keywords: personal recount text, pre-questioning, reading comprehension

The objectives of this research were to find out whether teaching using realia can develop students’ descriptive text writing ability at the second year of SMPN 2 Bandar Mataram. The quantitative data (students’ score) was used to see the students’ ability in writing descriptive text (learning product). The subject of the research was the students of class VIII.A in the academic year 2012/2013.Pretest and post test experimental design was used in this research. Pre-test and post-test were administered to measure students’ ability in writing descriptive text before and after treatments. The scoring system was based on five aspects; they are content, organization, vocabulary, grammar and mechanic. The result shows that there is an increase of students’ ability in writing descriptive text after treatments using realia as media. It can be concluded that teaching using realia increased the ability of students in writing descriptive text. Therefore, the writer suggests to English teacher to apply realia as one of the alternative ways to increase the students’ descriptive text writing ability. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari mana yang lebih baik antara Clustering Technique dan Derivational Exercises dalam meningkatkan pemerolehan kosa kata siswa. Penelitian ini melibatkan dua kelas eksperimental yaitu kelas XI IPS 1 dan XI IPS 2 di SMAN 1 Kalirejo. Data didapat melalui pemerolehan pre-test dan post test dan dianalisa menggunakan Independent Group T-test. Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa rata-rata nilai tengah dari post test di kelas pertama adalah 76,55 sedangkan di kelas kedua adalah 62,79 and level signifikannya (p) adalah 0,000. Hal ini berarti Clustering Technique secara signifikan lebih baik daripada Derivational Exercises dalam meningkatkan pemerolehan kosa kata siswa. Clustering Technique lebih sederhana untuk dimengerti oleh siswa daripada Derivational Exercises.This research was intended to find out which one was better between Clustering Technique and Derivational Exercises in improving students’ vocabulary achievement. This research used two experimental classes, they are class XI IPS 1 and XI IPS 2 in SMAN 1 Kalirejo. The data were collected from the gain of pre-test and post test and analyzed by using Independent Group T-test. The result showed that the mean score of post test in the first class was 76.55 while in the second class was 62.79 and probability level (p) was 0.000. It means that Clustering Technique was significantly better than Derivational Exercises in improving students’ vocabulary achievement. Clustering Technique is simpler to be understood by the students than Derivational Exercises.Keywords: clustering technique, derivational exercises, students’ vocabulary achievement.

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki: (1) korelasi antara sikap terhadap membaca dan penggunaan strategi belajar dalam membaca, (2) dan kontribusi sikap terhadap membaca terhadap strategi belajar membaca siswa dalam hal kognitif, metakognitif, dan strategi sosial. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kuantitatif. Subyek penelitian adalah 33 siswa Kelas XI IPA I dari SMAN 1 Terbanggi Besar. Untuk mengumpulkan data, penelitian ini menggunakan dua kuisioner mengenai sikap terhadap membaca dan strategi belajar membaca. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa tidak adanya korelasi yang signifikan antara sikap siswa unruk membaca dan penggunaan strategi belajar mereka dalam membaca; dan sikap terhadap membaca memiliki kontribusi yang kecil terhadap strategi siswa dalam belajar membaca. Melihat hal ini, guru dapat memaksimalkan proses belajar siswa dengan melatih mereka untuk menyatukan strategi kognitif dengan strategi metakognitif yang tepat.Abstract. This research aimed at investigating: (1) the correlation between attitude to reading and the use of learning strategy in reading, (2) and the contribution of attitude to reading towards students reading learning strategy in terms of cognitive, metacognitive, and social strategy. The research was quantitative descriptive study. The respondents of the study were 33 students of Class XI IPA I of SMAN 1 Terbanggi Besar. Questionnaires concerning attitude to reading and reading learning strategies were used to collect the data. The findings revealed that there was statistically insignificant correlation between students attitude to reading and their learning strategies use in reading; and attitude to reading had a little contribution to the use of the students strategies in learning reading. This suggest that, teachers can maximize students learning process by training them to combine cogntitive strategy and appropriate metacognitive strategy.Keywords: attitude to reading, correlation, learning strategy in reading.

Abstract:The problem of the study is the students’ goofing in their translationfrom Indonesia into English recount text. Some factors that cause students’goofing in their translation task are students’ difficulty in structure of targetlanguage (TL), difficulty in choosing the proper equivalence of English wordsfrom Indonesia word and students’ low motivation to read a text.The objectives of this research are to identify the types of goofs in translatingIndonesia into English recount text, to identify goofs which are more dominatingin the students translation of recount text and to inform the readers about goofsdone by the first grade students. The test deals with one type short story. Thepopulation of this research was the first year of SMA Negeri 1 Bandar Lampung.Recount text was used as the instrument for data collection, and the students wereasked to translate from Indonesia into English recount text. The data gained fromthis research were analyzed using Dullay and Burt framework.The results show that total of goofs students made in their translation task is 111goofs from 15 students of X.7, that is more dominating goofs is developmentalgoof and least goof that made by students is ambiguous goof. The finding of thisresearch is that, student's difficulties in understanding the structure of the targetlanguage was major cause students made goofs.Keywords: Goofing, Recount text, TranslationINTRODUCTIONTranslation is very important for transferring information from source languageinto target language. The translatormust know what words he/she has to use appropriately. Concerning the translation of Indonesian into English text, the learnersshould be able to find the equivalence of the words and structure because some ofEnglish words have equivalence in Indonesian. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) Untuk mengetahui bagaimana Drama diterapkan dalam mengajar Bahasa Inggris untuk kelas dua di SMA 3 Metro. (2) Untuk mengetahui pendapat para murid tentang drama sebagai tekhnik di kelasberbahasa inggris untuk siswa-siswi kelas dua SMA 3 Metro. (3) Untuk mengetahui masalah dari para murid di kelas Berbahasa Inggris menggunakan teknik drama. Satu dari aktifitas kreatif yang dapat dilakukan oleh para guru penerapan drama. Penelitian secara kualitatif adalah penerapan tehnik drama, sebagian dari siswa tidak merespon pertanyaanpertanyaan dari guru, dan sebagian lagi menyukain kegiatan drama sebagai tehnik dalam kelas berbahasa inggris di kelas dua SMA 3 Metro. Masalah yang ditemukan oleh para murid adalah artikulasi dan pemahaman, mereka takut untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka.The objectives of this research are (1) To find out how is drama implement in teaching english speaking at the second grade of SMA 3 Metro?,(2)To find out students perception about drama as a technique in English speaking class at second year of SMA Negeri 3 Metro, (3) to find out what are students problem in speaking class using drama technique. The research design is qualitative. One of the creative activities that can be done by the teachers is applying drama. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah ada peningkatan yang signifikan yang statistic dalam kemampuan prestasi pemahaman membaca siswa setelah penerapan dari teknikWH-Questions. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Sampel penelitian ini adalah 31 siswa tingkat kedua SMPN 5 Bandar Lampung. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mendapatkan data dalam penelitian ini adalah tes membaca. Pre-tes dan pos-tes membaca telah dilakukan untuk mengumpulkan data. Paired Sample T-Test digunakan untuk menganalisis data dan pengujian hipotesis dihitung menggunakan SPSS versi 16 pada tingkat signifikansi p 0,05. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa adanya peningkatan yang signifikan secara statistik dalam kemampuan prestasi pemahaman membaca siswa setelah penerapan teknik WH-Questionsdengan tingkat signifikan 0.05. Ini menunjukan bahwa teknik WH-Questionsdapat membantu siswa dalam menigkatkan kemampuan pemahaman membaca mereka.This study was aimed to find out whether there was a statistically significant improvement of students’ reading comprehension achievement after the studentswere taught through WH-Question technique. This research was a quantitative research. The subjects of this research were 31 studentsof the second grade of SMPN 5 Bandar Lampung. The instrument used to get the data in this research was reading test. Reading tests in forms of pre-test and post-test were done to collect the data. Paired Sample T-Test was used to analyze the data and the hypothesis testing was computed using SPSS version 16 at the significance level of p0.05. The results showed that there was a statistically significant improvement of the students’ reading comprehension achievement after the studentswere taught through WH-Question technique with the significant level 0.05. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan membaca siswa setelah diajar menggunakan teknik Think Pair Share khususnya dalam membaca teks report. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain one group pretest dan posttest. Tes membaca digunakan sebagai instrumen pengambilan data. Data ini di analisis menggunakan repeated measured T-test. Subyek penelitian ini 30 siswa dari kelas 2 pada SMAN 01 Tanjung Raya, Mesuji. Dari hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada peningkatan yang signifikan dalam aspek membaca dimana pencapaian 14.53 dan level signifikannya adalah p0.05 (p=0.000). Dengan ini disimpulkan bahwa, teknik Think Pair Share direkomendasikan untuk digunakan sebagai alternatif teknik untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca pada siswa.The aim of this research was to find out whether there is any statistically significant difference of the students reading comprehension achievement of report texts after the students were taught through Think Pair Share technique.The approach of this research was quantitative.
